hey guys,
I hope that's not of topic. Do you know which honey (kind or strain idk) is better for storing dried and powdered shrooms? I mean in terms of color, so that it would match the blueish tone of mushies...or which one darker or brighter honey looks more normal when you add magic fellows to it?
and I need to store around 20-25 g's, what would be the optimal amount of honey to use for that? it should be better one or two jars...
peace!
a good ratio is 1 Tablespoon (0.5 fl oz, or 15 mL) light-colored honey to 1 gram of dried mushroom powder.
light-colored honey does not pack too much floral taste (save the dark honeys for delicious non-psychoactive treats). add a pinch of fresh-grated ginger to your tastes.
as long as the mushrooms are thoroughly dried and finely powdered, it is fairly fool-proof to make. gently warm the honey jar in a hot water bath so it is easy to stir, then add your pre-weighed mushroom material. stir well, seal tightly, and LABEL IT to prevent unfortunate accidents or overdoses. it should be OK for weeks at room temperature, months at 40F/4C, and years if deep-frozen.
to serve, bring to room temperature (or slightly warmer using a hot-water bath or 1-2 seconds in microwave) and then simply scoop some out with a knife and spread it on a spoon for accurate measurement (don't stick the spoon directly in the jar because a bunch of honey will stick to the back of the spoon and it's difficult to measure that way). a knife is easy to scrape clean and determine exactly how much each person is getting.
eat like candy, or stir into a mug of hot water for instant shroom tea. usually comes on in 15-30 minutes.
EDIT: regarding fresh mushrooms in honey, the fresh mushroom is 90% water by weight. this disrupts the antibacterial properties of the honey and can end up making wine or vinegar.
