Kandi Bikini Tutorial

cool starry bra.

oo i should make a star one!

mods, feel free to move wherever!

and @ bella - i meant, the orange, pink, pink, red (2 up 2 down). those are the four rows that will continue to be built for the straps. idk it will make more sense when i post more pics

^ Indeed :D

MasterSplinter, I'm sorry dude but you're the last one that should be coming around here and playing mod lol!

Question..By leaving off 4 rows do you mean 1 bead off the one before the last and 3 beads off the last on?..That is what i am seeing in the picture...Im not understanding exactly

I want to wear this at Day-Glow thanks so much for the tutorial <3

hahaha do it.. I'll come over and help you make it

I think this will clarify more:

I circled the 4 beads I meant by leaving 4 rows at each end of the triangle:
tutorialstrap1.jpg

You are going to need these to build the straps in the back. If you think you're going to need more support, you can always leave more than that (like 5, 6...I wouldn't do anything thicker than that). EDIT: YOU CAN'T MAKE THE BACK STRAP 5 ROWS, YOU MUST USE AN EVEN NUMBER. I JUST DISCOVERED THAT THE HARD WAY WITH ANOTHER TOP I'M WORKING ON =/

In order to build the straps, you continue along as if you were building the triangle down EXCEPT you do not string through any beads before adding a bead. Remember when building the triangle you had to string through the bead at the top in order to get the triangle shape? Well we want the strap to be flat on both ends, so you just add a bead each time.

I will show you in pictures, but I might end up doing a flower strap (something I saw on another top online....if I can figure it out!).

Okay, notice in the picture above that my string is coming out of the orange bead at the bottom. To make the strap, just decide on what colors you want to go across your back. My friend is wearing zebra and pink for NYE I think, so she might be able to incorporate this top if I add more pink. So I guess I'm doing mine pink colors...I can always change to flowers later I suppose.

Okay, so my strap for now will be a combination of pink, black and sparkle (since I do have a tiny bit of sparkle beads in the middle of the triangle).

I'm going to string a pink glow bead FIRST then string UP through the beads that are sticking out.

tutorialstrap2.jpg

tutorialstrap3.jpg

Then I'm adding a magenta bead to complete the pattern for the triangle. Make sure at each point you pull SUPER TIGHT. I noticed when I wore my other top that this area pulled the most. You want to make sure you really pull hard so that this part holds really well (it really looks sloppy if it pulls at you can see space between the beads).

tutorialstrap4.jpg

Here is the difference with the strap. Now instead of stringing through the magenta bead that's sticking out FIRST (like we would have when building the triangle down), we want to string a bead.

This is the pattern I'm going to follow so I'm going to STRING a black bead FIRST then string through the magenta bead that is sticking out.

tutorialstrap5.jpg

tutorialstrap6.jpg

Next I will string a magenta bead through the bottom pink glow bead.
tutorialstrap7.jpg

*Note: If you think 4 rows won't be enough support and you want the strap a bit thicker, NOW is the time to undo a few rows and make it however thick you want.

So basically, to continue the straps out you just keep repeating what I demonstrated. It's exactly like making the triangle except you don't want to string through beads without stringing a bead on first. Does that make sense? Also, remember to pull very tightly!

Here is mine after I have added more of the pattern:
tutorialstrap8.jpg

Just continue out this strap as long as you think you'll need it to eventually connect it to the other triangle. Keep in mind that the elastic band stretches quite easily (the top I wore to nocturnal was like sliding up and down my body by the end of the night!)...so you want to make the strap like an inch or so shorter because trust me it will stretch out.

Now I don't want to make my other triangle just yet because I haven't heard back from my friend if she likes it or not (by the way it looked awesome last night with the lights off. The glow beads in between the solid beads made it look striped glowy in the dark. Mmhmm.)

Anyway my point with that is, I'll show you how to connect the triangles using the snowflake one I'll probably wear for NYE.

Here is what you do...

Go ahead and lay out the two triangles (with the 4 rows left) next to each other like so:
tutorialconnect1.jpg

Looks like I'm going to need to add one more row to the rainbow top on the left (my bad). Should look like this:
tutorialconnect2.jpg

Now you want to weave these two triangles together. I will take my string from the top sitting on the left (coming through the top pink glow bead...not the one sticking out) and pull it through the top silver bead on the top at the right. Then I will pull the string back to the top on the left through the glow bead sticking out. Then I will pull it back to the top on the right through the blue bead sticking out. Then lastly I will pull it back to the top on the left through the purple bead.

Should look like this:
tutorialconnect3.jpg

Then just pull as tight as you can to weave these triangles together. You should then have two strings hanging out the bottom. To finish, just tie and knot these together. I always super glue also. Mine looks like this (without the knotting and glue obviously as I don't want these 2 stuck together!).
tutorialconnect4.jpg

Now you have something that looks like this:
tutorialconnect5.jpg

If you are more busty, and you feel like you want the tops to join closer together (or if you want them to join more apart) just undo or add more rows before weaving the triangles together (as in you don't have to leave 4 rows...you can leave more or less and then weave together). It's all personal preference and necessity.

Ok, once you have made the back strap as long as you need it (you have to determine that for yourself....like I said, try to make it a little shorter so you allow for when it stretches out)...it's time to connect it to the other triangle. Just make sure you have the rows matching up exactly like how we connected the two triangles.

Basically they should look like this, and then you weave them together and tie/knot/glue it off just like how we connected the triangles together:
tutorialconnect6.jpg

You can go ahead and tie the strings hanging from each triangle too. I haven't yet figured out how to eliminate those strings from the process....so yeah these are the ones I'm talking about:
tutorialconnect8.jpg

Just tie and glue these and cut off the string that's hanging (goes for each triangle).

Now most of your top is complete!! Yay congrats =) Haha I'm a geek I know :p

Anyway, all that's left now is the neck strap. I will post how to do that later today hopefully!

lol! I do hope you're serious because that would be awesome =)

Anyway here is what BeadTool looks like btw:

Those are just pics of me messing around with the program. It's really nice because it allows you to play with your design & colors...only problem is that since it's free you can't save any of your patterns. I just take pictures of each pattern on my phone and that way I can keep them for future use.

I suggest this program if you want to try and make a really detailed pattern on your triangles.

Can't wait to see pictures of your tops <3

Quick question. Is there a way to do it without using two strings? I do all my kandi cuffs with the same/similar beading technique, but I only use one string/the same string. If that makes sense. My boyfriend does the same thing as I do for his cuffs, but he's like you and uses two strings.

So is a Kandi bikini similar enough to making a cuff that I can use one, or because it's flat instead of tubular, I can't?

That's a really good question!

I guess you could use one really long string? You just need two sides when you build the initial skeleton (bc it goes one bead, two beads, one bead, two beads, and so on)....so you could try making one super long one and just folding it in half for that part.

After that, it's just weaving the beads on and I guess you don't need two strings.

Yeah you should try it! Make one super long, bend it in half so you have a loop at the top and then two sides of the one string of equal length. Then add the skeleton to it as usual (just push the single bead at the top very tight so it is right up against the loop). Then you could just use the long ends at the bottom of the skeleton to build up the sides?

Would that work?

Sorry I'm rambling now....I have no idea.

EDIT: Maybe you want the loop at the bottom, and build your skeleton from the bottom up. So start with the bottom 2 beads, then string one, then the next two and so on....then you'll be able to work down the triangles like I showed you.

I really hope that makes sense..I'm having a hard time with my words right now =)

hahaha do it.. I'll come over and help you make it

Yea!!! Are you coming??..I have like 5 people coming so far....let me know cuz i wanna get the tickets by the end of this week!!

SCUBAGIRL: Thank you so much for posting this..u are awesome...i understand what you mean by the 4 rows now..thanks for clarifying!!<3

Np pretty lady =) My friend wants the top and I had fun making the tutorial! <3

Wadsworth - Did you figure out how to use one string? I'm not an expert at this, nor am I familiar with many of the kandi terms out there...but I'm fairly certain one string CAN work. I only use 2 because that's just how I interpreted the tutorial I learned from. Once I saw that it worked, I just kept making tops that way. Kinda like a "if it ain't broke why fix it" sort of deal. I just like doing what's familiar =)

I still want to know if it worked for you, though! The only problem I see you having is working with that long a piece of string (but if you bend it in half, the string will probably be exactly as long as working with two separate pieces). So yeah, go for it and let me know how it went!

And lol about the starry bra comment. I really want to make a starry one now but can't figure out how to make a decent star pattern on BeadTool. The pic I posted above is the closest I could get to a star. If anyone wants to download BeadTool (I posted the link earlier in the tutorial) and attempt to make a better star, please do!

And if anyone else wants to share other patterns, that would be great as well (just make sure you have the program set to brick)!

Thanks guys, you're awesome <3

Okay...I meant to post this last night, sorry!

Here is the last part of the tutorial =D

For the neck strap you want 1 piece of string about 2-3 ft long. You want to fold it evenly in half.

Then take the 2 end pieces and pull through these two beads near the top of your triangle:
tutorialneckstrap1.jpg

Then take the ends that are sticking out of those 2 beads, and pull through the top bead, like this:
tutorialneckstrap2.jpg

Then pull tightly so each side of the string is evenly distributed. The top of your triangle should now look like this:
tutorialneckstrap3.jpg

Now you have to decide what pattern you want for the neck strap. I'm going to make a double (I think that's what it's called) by using hearts for the connector piece and the same colors I used for the back strap.

I'm stringing a connector piece (the heart) onto BOTH strings first:
tutorialneckstrap4.jpg

Then pull tight:
tutorialneckstrap5.jpg

Then I'm going to add the pattern from the back strap to EACH SEPARATE STRING:
tutorialneckstrap6.jpg

Again, pull tight:
tutorialneckstrap7.jpg

Here is what the pattern looks like when I add a bit more:
tutorialneckstrap8.jpg

Now you can either A) Continue along until it's long enough to fit how you like and connect it to the top of the other triangle, or B) Do the same thing we did above to the OTHER triangle and then tie the FOUR pieces of string together.

Does that make sense? So you can either build one side of the neck strap all the way around and THEN connect it, OR you can build up the neck strap from BOTH triangles and then tie those pieces together.

Just make sure you make the neck strap tight because it will stretch also. You don't want your girls falling out!

I think I'm going to build up from BOTH triangles...I will post the final top once I finish the other triangle!

That's it! Enjoy =)
