Wisdom Teeth extraction questions.

dude when I went to the Dentist to have a tooth that was broken in half and dangling extracted, I didn't get any type of IV sedation, I didn't even know they did that, he just stuck my gums with numbing liquid till it was all numb and then cracked the tooth out, afterwards he wrote me a script for 15 tylonol 3, 15 measly tylonol 3's, I was pissed. The next day I called and told him they weren't working and I needed something stronger and he told me NO, he COULDN'T write me for anything stronger, not even that he wouldn't but that he Couldn't, what the fuck is that? what recourse would I have in a situation like that? could I sue that muthafucka for not treating my pain? needless to say I will never go to him again.

Most dentists will just use a local or a local plus gas unless it's going to be a difficult extraction or they want to extract multiple teeth at one time.

I'm not sure about in the US, but here dentists can't just prescribe anything they want to - they can prescribe and use a limited range of drugs and some of those are dependent on additional training - so your dentist could well have been telling the truth when he said that he couldn't prescribe anything stronger.

Insufficient pain control alone doesn't come anywhere near the standard required to establish medical negligence or malpractice. You need to establish that you suffered actual damages and that your health care provider acted outside accepted standards of care to even have a hope of getting a lawyer to launch an action and it's not economically worth their while to go up against an insurance company to seek trivial compensation. While it's true that insurance companies have deep pockets from which to settle, they also have deep pockets from which to defend actions against them.

Just for getting your tooth pulled they don't put you under sedation. There is no reason to, its not like a surgery such as getting your wisdom teeth pulled. I wasn't put under sedation for that, only wisdom teeth.

Hmm, I always wondered what I had...I liked it a lot whatever it was!

Once for two simultaneous wisdom teeth extractions it was an IV in the back of the hand...5 seconds and dreeeeaaaammm. Loooovely feeling. They said I would have no memory, but I did. I just didn't care. Another was during a gastroscope and again I could remember, and the last time was during a spinal operation to dissolve a disc. Just before the needle went into the heart of a VERY painfully herniated disc, the doc says 'here is a little something I brought off a guy on the street corner...it will help you relax...." It did. Very much so. I always thought it was something similar to Heroin I guess. And that's why I steer clear of H...I think I'd like it too much.

So, do you think it was fentanyl then?

hahahahahha thats great they know whats uppppp

I am pretty sure he was joking.

Before I was able to put my braces on I had to pull all 4 of my eye teeth out because the had grown root and never fallen out, I was 18 at the time. While i wasnt put under I ended up recieving EIGHTEEN!! novicane shots, and I couldn't feel my face from my eyes to my chin. I was prescribed 30 10mg LTs which came in handy 5 days later when I totaled my truck. while I walked away without a scratch, I couldnt walk for 2 days afterwords from the soreness. Thank God for those LTs.

I asked the doctor what they were giving me as the IV was going in. My memory of it is him saying Fentanyl and Ketamine, but I was passing out shortly after he told me so I could have just wanted it to be ketamine. I know for a fact he said fentanyl, though.

I got ultram afterwards, it was before i had an opiate tolerance. I abused the shit out of them for about 3 days, smoked a lot of weed with them too, and i felt fine when I ran out. Eating sucked but that was the worst of it for me. (I had all 4 done at once, also)

I got an IV of propofol. It's not anything fun, you just feel a little lightheaded/dissociated and the next second your mouth is packed full of gauze and the surgeon is cleaning up. Afterward I got 800mg ibuprofen. Oh, and 50 perc 5/350s, which were completely unnecessary but very nice.

My teeth were all impacted and had to be cut into little pieces before extraction though, and my oral surgeon was clearly a recreational drug user, so I wouldn't be too hopeful. My friend went to another place and got like 7 vicodens, ha. Sucks.

Ketamine's common so you probably remembered right.
