Travel The MEGA Travel Thread!

It's not EVERYWHERE, in my experience most pharmacies in Thailand WON'T sell it. I tried many different places, both touristy and local, in various different places in Thailand and couldn't get anything.

Like Vegas and Amsterdam without the gambling and drugs. Patong is horrible.

Most pharms in Patong seem to have Diaz, but it's not cheap. I don't want to talk too much about drugs in SO, but it's there if you want/need it.

Yeah, Patong does suck. We went for the Full Moon party tonight and it was like being at a frat party. An expensive frat party. With mosquitoes. :|

If easy pharm drugs are what you want go to Cambodia (or Laos).
Indeed.

Like most places in the world, most things are available in Thailand (a vague statement, I know). But if your quest is to munch on loosely regulated pharmaceuticals, Thailand is not your Shangri-La; counterfeit drugs are rife while corruption is entrenched in the law-enforcement community (magnitude is intensified when farangs are involved). There are other countries much more suited for a junkie holiday. Some of them have been discussed extensively here and on another forum. Rachmin has been at the heart of some of those threads, search his posts for travel advice if that's your thing.
Most people, with a little effort, won't have trouble buying a few diazepam in Thailand, but it's not always that easy and sometimes has big consequences for such a small pill.

Are you talking about the Full Moon Party on Koh Phangan? That has little to do with Patong though surely?

Apparently there are parties at just about any beach or suitable area (a Bluelighter invited me to one atop a mountain!).

A few in my class made the excursion to Koh Phan Ngan for the weekend, but I'd rather concentrate on my course, save money, and do it right next month. :)

But yeah, Patong seems a piss-poor substitute for just about everything. I brought some psychs and around midday, I realized there could not possibly be a worse environment to take them in.

^ Be very, very, careful where you get your drugs from, if you absolutely must (personally, I never found the risk worth it in Thailand).

Carl gives excellent advice here as always, and quotes Rachamim who also gives excellent advice in these matters.

Yeah of course. There are parties everywhere but generally 'full moon party' means Koh Phangan as that's the original. Apparently the best FMP's are now on islands off Cambodia though I don't know which ones.

I'll echo Jamshyd's comments.

From what I heard, the full moon party in Koh Phangan has become too commercialized and almost like a frat party fest more than anything. I'd still like to check it out though. The full moon party I went to this weekend in Kanchanaburi beats any full moon party I've ever been too. It was on a raft on this beautiful spot on the lake. Great music and everyone that I met at the party were really down to earth. Good vibes.

You heard right. Before you go to a FMP on KPG, watch the kids getting off the ferry in Koh Tao or Samui or Surat Thani a day or two after the party. It's really not something I can see you enjoying Staroceanhouse, but it's up to you.

In my opinion, it's a blight on Thailand and a shame that foreigners act with such reckless disregard for local norms. It's a poorly organized, overcrowded mass of people swimming in a sea of fake/dangerous drugs and buckets of alcohol.

If you are in Thailand, then diazepam is very available without any script.

Just write it and they will sell it without anything asked.

Some of the other benzos are harder to find - they may direct you to another 'pharmacy'.

I had fun at it but I only stayed a little while. We were on mushrooms and after a bit we just wanted to go back to our quiet beach and look at the moon and smoke a joint... I don't think I've ever in my life seen so much alcohol. There were people laying on the ground puking all over themselves and stuff.. blech. But still, it was something I will always remember doing because I don't go to many big raves/parties these days.

Full Moon Party in Kanchanaburi?!? I spent loads of time there last year and it didn't seem like there was any chance of anything like that happening. I like Kanchanaburi a lot and befriended a few locals and some of the bar owners are great, You go to Sugar Members bar? It has a big cannabis leaf on the outside of the bar and is across the road from the '10 baht bar', good friend of mines she used to leave us in the bar and go off or go to bed and trust us to pay for our drinks and shut up the place afterwards. Love it! :D

Didn't see that many backpacker or younger folk around tho so surprised there was a demand for a full moon party. There wasn't really enough demand for any of the rafts to go out in the lakes when we were there I don't think, we enquired about staying in one that floated down river and partied at night but the owner said not enough people around which was a shame.

*Bump*

Fuck.

My plans were hit. Between needing to make a living, working hard at getting a driver's license to be able to continue to make a living, and having uncertain living conditions, I had to cancel my tickets and postpone until January... I am very angry that I won't be able to make the Dia de Los Muertos as I had originally planned :(

Also different is that I no longer plan on finding a teaching job, at least not currently, as I discovered I need to set down some roots in Canada before traveling again.

Still, the basic plan is still there, with the basic idea of overland Chicago - Denver - SF - LA - La Paz (Baja) - Copper Canyon (Los Mochis - Creel) - Zacatecas and Mexico C. - Oaxaca - Guatemala - Nicaragua - Costa Rica (with most time spent in the last two). The remainder of C. America countries will only be pass-throughs.

If timing works out, I'll be trying to arrange my return to go through New Orleans during Mardi Gras. But by now I won't be counting on any fixed times, sigh.

Here's to hoping it works :/

^well the person that organizes it lives in bangkok. He runs a bar called ooze bar on soi rambutri (adjacent to khao san road). A really nice guy and he djs psytrance. He organizes a bus from bangkok to arrive directly to the raft so you can't really get there without riding on that bus. But basically you have 5 rafts connected together. One of them has the dj system and the other ones have several rooms for people to sleep in. You pretty much pay for the bus ticket, party and accomodation. 3 days 2 nights long and you can't leave until the party is over :). I really recommend going if you're in thailand next time. Just look for Ooze bar and ask about their Moon Mountain parties.
