Opioids Pain Management Clinics

i agree, hood. excellent post c2tl.
OP, do you live anywhere close to a uni w/ a dental school? many colleges of dentistry have facial pain clinics where you can get an accurate diagnosis and help w/ non-drug methods to control your symptoms if you do indeed have TMJ disorder. treating the underlying cause could possibly resolve the whole problem. finding and treating the cause is most def preferable rather than just treating symptoms.
best of luck to you.

I appreciate all the responses guys..and basically I guess I am just nervous that I am going to have to go through the prime of my life with extremely stringent drug laws (as if they werent awful already) AND having to deal with chronic pain. In all honesty yes I do have chronic pain that can be horrible at certain points, but the main reason I started asking my doc for opioids is because I realized that the only way to obtain them in a legal and at least semi-affordable fashion was through the MD route. So I used my chronic migraines and family history of TMJ to get prescribed just 30 lousy 5/500 vicodin a month..but even such a bullshit script was enough to keep me happy and pain free. So please continue the discussion, and please try to keep it relevant to new pain management clinic experiences because reading how other like minded people felt about the situation of being referred to Pain Mgt. is very helpful to me. Thanks again---

You won't be getting anything. TMJ is not a condition that requires round-the-clock pain management with the use of narcotic opiates. Millions of people have this condition and deal with it. Your also way too young. The instance I read

"the only way to obtain them in a legal..semi-affordable fashion was through the MD route." Is where you are labeled as a drug seeker. You basically have used the veil of family history and supposed issues with your jaw to get scheduled narcotics. You certainly aren't the only one - but I think your glory days are over, especially considering your family doctor is taking you off of them.

I have never been to one, but I know some people who have. It really depends on the place, and the Dr.

Just like it is with family dr's, pshys, suboxone, anything. Some will be good, some won't be.

A key is bringing your records. If it shows you have tried other things and now are on the vikes, you should be ok. Since it's just vikes the dr probably won't second guess the first Dr and you should be ok.

Then again, everyone on here can only tell stories and generalities, you won't know until you go. Try to make your appointments as early as possible, so you can always go someplace else if you need to.

I honestly dont think its worth it for you. Mainly because of the reason that it is gonna be a very expensive experience. You may have to go from doctor to doctor to try and find one who will "give you what you want" and then you will have to pay for the prescriptions. And more than likely you will end up never getting any narcotic prescriptions because you simply dont have a good enough reason to. Just because you are in pain doesnt mean you are a candidate for opiates. Millions of people live there lives every day in pain and yet are not given opiates. there are many reasons for this, and im sure you know most of them.
But in your situation, like I said, you just dont meet the qualifications to get prescribed opiates month after month, and it is gonna cost you thusands of dollars and dozens of doctors appointments for you to figure that out. im trying to save you time, and money. Just do your best to deal wiht whatever pain you do have, without narcotics.

a lot of pain clinic require you to be working on other ways to treat the pain.if they are giving you narcotics. they want to see that you WANT to get better. They have you try things like Physical therapy, injections and lots more things like that and if you refuse they cut you off. I've seen it happen quite a few times.

This is true, in the US I believe its 1 in 5 experience some form of chronic pain.
