Real raves (for clarification in the USA "rave" refers to giant commerical shitfests)

This years frenchtek was a fail because of scene politics but check out last years:

I'm going to this next year in portugal looks fucking ace:

Looks pretty good, Porto from Lyon is cheap with RyanAir. I went to Sonar this year but only Saturday night. Chemical Brothers with sick but MDMA wasn't quality. I drank a lot of beer and lost my group. Still had a good time though. Just not the same atmosphere as an L.A. massive "rave".

you got any clips or examples of these LA raves and it may be easier to understand what you're after, it may just be the case that there is not an equivalent scene near you.

I think we had this discussion ages ago felix77, in that what is perceived as a 'rave' in the states, is a bit different in Europe. You were in Barcelona during Sonar if I remember correct. Did you not like it?

Just book a flight to Ibiza now for the closing parties and a cheap hotel. Drugs guaranteed, all music genres guaranteed, weather hmmm last year it was raining all of September in Ibiza, but so far so good according to friends.

are these US "raves" licensed events with pay admission etc?
real "raves" UK europe means generally illegal outdoor/warehouse/squat/teknivals of which you do not seem a fan. if you mean clubnights then you have to specify genre/crowd/drugs you are into etc i think the different use of terminologies is causing confusion!

This is a key point.

My understanding of "raves" is something I experienced nearly 20 years ago at a so called illegal event :\ in the midst of a rural field in Ayrshire - damp and with sound sound system failures n' cops :|

Since then the "rave" experience has grasped me unexpectedly - the last time was the vibe generated at a System 7 gig at king tuts in glasgow - a tiny venue but for the occasion full of the old sckool lovers who made the night - raving it :D

It was all about the music, the collective and the vibe they generated, my last taste of that rave essence...so sweets. Something you can't buy via a ticket - tis all about the people babes :)

and things get pretty rough. Just a place for hard drugs and violence.
The normal law of physics apply.
If you go there dressed like this

Expect to get bottled.
Upside of getting bottled at a squat party is they're only plastic bottles.

Fly Bermuda in Berlin on 6th November.
Get a ticket, meet me there, we make party, we have fun, you want fun, I give you fun.

Not at all, the key is the atmosphere. Clubs are very group oriented while my American rave experience was much more open. True I haven't been to a European rave but I am sure that Teufs and squat parties are not the same. Mainly because ravers and hippies are not the same crowd. What I was hoping to find was something like an underground college party with drugs.

Sonar was cool, but there were not a lot of drugs other than lots of Spanish hash smokers like very where else. In fact most people there cringed at the mention of drugs. Other than great music there was nothing to set Sonar apart from a regular concert.

I wouldn't mind a massive licensed "rave" like we say in America. Something like Trance energy or White Party. Every time I find out about these events it is too late to go. I will be hitting up trance energy next year though.

Squat parties (and outdoor freeparties) ARE raves.

American "raves" are just clubnights/commercial parties. Seems like you want something like Global Gathering or similar - large commercial events.

ravers and hippies here are often the same crowd or at least mix a lot, the US scene is years behinf the UK/europe in terms of freeparties and this is what the euro scene has evolved into.

if you're looking for friendly vibe and lots of drugs and not bothered about music you should check out psytrance events legal and illegal, happy vibe, friendly peeps and millions of drugs

as far as licensed events in the UK you should def come for glade fest next year if it's on or if not one of the smaller ones, boomtown this year was insanely good.

I wouldn't say the U.S. is behind the UK in raves any more, rather they went in a whole different direction. California is the leading place for raves, from warehouse parties to mega events. I've been to small warehouse raves, the crowd is much different than in Europe.

California is the primary immigration spot for Asians and they have heavily influenced the rave scene. Kandi raving is an Asian invention. It has its pathetic people like all scenes but what you guys see is not at all what it is about. Mostly it is just being colorful and outgoing and often sexy.

EDC is considered a massive rave in the US. Commercial yes but that is why the DJs rock. It is the people that make the atmosphere, so you can count on having a good time at a mega event or a small underground.

Here is a more realistic view of an LA mega dance event.

Ok I guess we can call different tastes. If people in the UK think that dancing in the mud with a bunch of scabby homeless is more fun than that, well I guess I'm looking in the wrong place.

scabby crusties, ketamine and fat stacks must continue.

Fuck that 'rave' looks shit.
