Do people who actually have ADD NOT get a high from Adderall or Ritalin?

They get high. Methamphetamine will sure as hell get you high regardless of your condition, so Adderall and more commonly prescribed amphetamines would too.

The only thing is they probably have a high natural tolerance because they need some amphetamine just to become base-line, and than some on top of that to get high.

It depends on dosage. 5mg of amphetamine would help everybody focus without getting them high. I have a friend with ADD who takes a lot of street amphetamine and yes they get high.

ADHD/ADD or not, if you are giving a sufficient enough dose, you are going to feel "high" or if at a young age you will wonder why you are feeling so much happier, doing better in school etc..just you dont realize the euphoria or appreciate it cuz i doubt yall were addicts if put on that stuff at a young age, i was put on ritalin at a young age not knowing what it was, i starting feeling great, and i said to my dad "wow dad please dont discontinue me taking this i feel soo much better" as time passed of course i learned more about it, started to abuse it etc...so IDk i feel i have ADD, and when i take stimulants, i can work better, better grades, clean, etc..but i guess thats what the effects of the drug will do to anyone? Yeah ADHD OR NOT YOU TAKE ENOUGH UR GONNA BE EUPHORIC AND HIGH, IMO

SORRY TO bump, AND besides a psychiatric distorder is not ALWAYS writtin in stone or permanent, and as far as drug addicts go, you will never know if u have a true mental health disorder, because u can show symptoms of ANY mental health disorder on withdrawl, or under influence, etc..

haha i used to love abusing adderal. my old roomate used to give em to me, and i'd snort a couple of em, and be awake for days! its like a long lasting coke buzz. even when i just ate one pill (not sure what size) i still felt a speedy high for at least 24hrs. i eventually ended up gettin WAY too fucked up and snorted about 8 pills and overdosed pretty bad...i stayed up for at least 5 days...and didnt feel normal til about a month after. that shit tears up your stomach! i was shittin out liquid for months!

The only time I have ever gotten high off of Adderall or Ritalin is when I abused it and snorted the shit out of it. It was great for while I was drinking and wanted to stay up all night. I would also use it the next day because Ritalin feels like coke without the numb nose and mouth. Adderall is actually quite a wonderful high for me. Although I do like amphetamine type high including MDMA. I don't like meth-amphetamine though. its nasty and always ends up in e-pills. ive gotten straight meth bombs and have only enjoyed it once.

All I know is that I was diagnosed with ADHD when I was in 1st grade and immediately put on Ritalin. Ritalin made me extremely sleepy and I was forced to take this garbage until I was in 5th grade. When I was in 12th grade I tried snorting some of my friends Ritalin to see if it actually would affect me different than it did when I was younger. Nope. It made me feel like crap. I was on edge with a heightened heart rate. Then I tried Adderall. This stuff made me feel like a genius. I wanted to just read read read read read and read some more. But yeah, like someone said earlier, it is a misconception about people with add/adhd not getting high. Ritalin makes me feel like crap, but I'm sure there is someone out there that would enjoy what I was feeling...High.

Ritalin is Crap, provides the Jitters, nervousness and extreme sensitivity to loud noises which makes you jump and startled, not something i enjoy,

amphetamines on ther other hand are, WOW.

I don't have ADD (or ADHD) and adderall gives me a sorta 'buzz'... But I dread having to take an adderall....It kinda pisses me off when I hear about kids ("Young Adults") in college getting prescribed Adderall through-out their college years.. Its almost like a form of cheating.. I had a close friend in college that was prescribed to them for the soul purpose of doing well in classes and getting good grades, (whether he ADD or not is unknown, but he claimed he didn't). Anyways I know Adderall has helped me a few times to study b4 a test or while taking a test.. but that was awhile ago, i haven't taken adderall sense probably 2nd year of college and would only take 10mgs when I needed to cram the night b4 a test or whatever... I wish i did have a script, they do help you listen better and retain information and shit.

Im driven to educate the masses on this all to common (~5-10% of adolescent boys, ~1-4% for girls) technology driven mental disorder known as ADHD. My sincere apologies for the length and crudeness trying to make it as short as possible conveying my message, but i could type info on ADHD till you went perma cross eyed.

Do people in pain get high off (to many) pain killers? Ideally with ADHD you would take the lowest dose reaping the therapeutic benefits. People with any of the 3 classes of ADHD lack a fully developed frontal lobe where executive functions take place. Do homework or stay (hyper)FOCUSED on tv/video games. With those two jacking up the pleasure/reward centers it isnt until late teens/early 20's that patients develop the cognitive scaffolding to overcome typical ADHD symptoms as restlessness, speaking out of turn, etc. You gotta do what you gotta do. If your brain cant supply adequate neurotransmitters in your synaptic clefts it never will without medicine supplementing your own (neurological/endocrine) systems. I personally take six (6) 30mg Adderall IR a day. Is that a lot? I take 90mg at 5am, 60mg at noon with lunch, and 30 for my studies at night. At a high therapeutic dose side effects are likely yet I eat, gain weight, but honestly dont sleep always having struggled with insomnia long before drugs were involved. Frankly, i sleep far far better on days i take Adderall (at this point its prob more withdraw then anything) but i would happily trade my youth in Special Education being called a retard and my parents beating me until bruised because my report cards(quarterly). Without medicine yet with diets and behavioral therapy(modification) I failed 3 years of K-12. Yes, 3. The ones i didnt fail i squeaked by with many Ds and Fs. Now on my dose which i will surely increase over time I almost made valedictorian at Georgia State U studying their hardest major...neurological sciences, and currently I'm enrolled at Emory Med (double enrolled in MD and PhD, neurology/applied stem cell therapy, respectively) where i MURDER my classes being properly medicated with...minimal effort. With everything said i must admit it takes 5x-10x any drug for me to feel any effects what so ever. 24mg (yes i said 24mg) Suboxone, 120mg Oxy, 20mg kolonopin do jack for me yet i gravitated to coke and then meth. Is it a coincidence I saw benefits using these drugs, especially the later? With more and more people[docs(shrinks)] thinking drug ab(use) is a form of mental disorder who would of thought that i stumbled upon an illicit drug one molecule different then the LIFE CHANGING legal drug i currently take. As i stated earlier my body didnt produce enough neurotransmitters and without medicine from a doc i found it on the streets. On a side note, tho ADD isnt thrown around anymore, if you educated yourself only slightly with the mental disorder you have/speak as if an authority, you'd simple break ADHD into one of it's 3 subclasses and called it ADHD type-1 predominantly inattentive. I gotta say tho that the human body is a complex machine and (aspiring to be one) doctors dont know everything. I guarantee I, a wannabe doc, know more about ADHD and medicines to treat it then 95% of all general practitioners and 60% of shrinks.

F.Y.I - 30% of patients taking stimulant meds are cured of their ADHD symptoms tho who or when isnt fully known. And, stimulants unless heavily heavily abused are NOT bad for your heart. You been preached

Sources: my (Mensa) 174IQ, 1000+ medical studies/journals researched from institutions spanning the earth over years educating myself on said personal disability, but most importantly my(and my sons) personal experience. Does your doctor have ADHD or taken stimulant meds? How does he know WTF it is or does.

Wow^^^ lol you sound like your bragging about all that drug use 24 mgs suboxone!!! Your tweaking pretty dam bad I guess lol I just find it funny when people brag about there drug use and tell us that they know 95 percent more than any doctor ha okay buddy in your dreams I think I'll stick to my doctors advice over your tweaked out ramblings about how much of each drug you need to get high and why your so smart yet hardcore

Simple answer:

No. Adderall and Ritalin effect everyone in exactly the same way. Someone with ADHD is just as likely as any 'normal' to get high off Adderall or Ritalin.

What about you..

What are you doing here? in the midst of us, sea of drug addicts...

Did you buy a ride on the high horse? cause i would love a turn.

I used 80mg tonight for my first time ever, and yes it got me high and was very addicting. Only other "upper" ive done is blow, and I'd have to say I prefer the blow high, but id rather use something like adderrall thats pharm grade and uncut.

I also don't see why kids are allowed to take it, but then again, they dont give kids 80mg :)

I do not think people get high if they actually have the disorder the drug is prescribed for.

I know plenty of people with ADHD that do not get any high off their meds. They just seem like they feel alot better and their symptoms go away.

I myself take Clonazepam aka Klonopin and I have never caught a buzz off the stuff, but a fraction of one of my pills would have most people falling asleep.

Also, I noticed the same thing with pain medication. I have chronic pain and people are always saying things like "you are so lucky to have this rx" and I always tell them they are quite wrong.

It is quite a curse to have a medication you need and other people want because it will get them intoxicated and well if they are addicted they will be green with envy.

I avoid telling people I am prescribed any narcotics as they always seem to want some and seem rather pissed I do not want to sell any and some people have gotten downright furious. It's really not my fault people are addicted to medication I need to not be in agony. I know they are suffering too, but that does not mean I should cause myself suffering for their sake. Even if they pay me, it is not going to make me feel any better.

I have often seen kids selling the ADHD medicine growing up or trading it for other drugs. Some of it seemed a bit forced. (ie older sibling) I had tried ritalin a few times through middle school and high school and in lower doses it relaxed me and well higher doses had me working non stop, but for kids who actually needed it, you could notice they were doing much better in school and seemed calmer.

I remember reading (somewhere) that stimulants suppress activity in low doses in animal models. I also read that people with ADHD experience the same effects from them as everyone else, they just take a much lower dose than recreational users. When you think about it, they've been proscribed these medications to improve their focus, which would not happen if these drugs worked completely differently for them.

I've read many conflicting things about this. What I do know is that some people who have been diagnosed with ADHD have gotten high from their medicine. Of course, the disorder is almost certainly overdiagnosed. I also know that some people just find stimulants inherently unpleasant, which has to be considered alongside the presence of any mental disorder.

I'm not diagnosed with ADD/ADHD and doubt I have either, but I do have focusing problems and have tried Adderall (10-20 mg) and methylphenidate (~20-50 mg if I remember correctly). I've never gotten a high from them, but I have had increased concentration, decreased appetite, increased sex drive and overall feelings of stimulation, but never anything I would call a high.

The thing to keep in mind here is that ADD/ADHD is caused by decreased mental functioning. This is why stimulants are used to control the symptoms. I doubt it, but this may mean that people with add may need to take more to get over the symptoms. But, i don't support that hypothesis. Whats probably going on is that when the drug is introduced to someone as a child, they have no idea what to expect. They won't really notice the difference, nor attribute these differences to the drug. But, i can confirm right now, that it does indeed get ADHDers high. Ive been doing the carpet crawl for the past 4 hours looking for meth. But prior to that, i was enjoying 200 mg of vyvanse. I do have add, and I was prescribed Ritalin for most of my life. When i started using drugs, i asked for adderall because i had tried it prior and it was love at first... first.... er, love at first pill? Well it took less than a year for me to go out of control and have the script taken away. So yes, it does indeed get adhd kids high. Now tell me who thought it was a good idea to give people with poor impulse control highly addictive drugs?

Studies have shown that Stimulant drugs actually lower the likelihood that someone with ADHD will abuse drugs. Also, at proper therapeutic dosages - stimulants actually LOWER impulsive behavior.
