I'm sick of the US and its laws. Name some countries with sensible drug laws, please.

After seeing that thread, I felt so angry about the absurdity of all this. I can't stand this country sometimes, the thought of being locked up for life over drugs is just completely cruel.

What are some countries that aren't as strict about drug laws? Not just weed, but places where even having LSD or DMT wouldn't equal an automatic felony. Am I dreaming or do such places exist? I remember reading that one country "decriminalized" a few hits of LSD (which is not legalizing, I know). I think it was portugal.

What else?

The czech republic. They passed a new regulation that states that possession of the following drugs is not a misdemeanor unless it surpasses the amount listed.

* Marijuana 15 grams (or five plants)
* Hashish 5 grams
* Magic mushrooms 40 pieces
* Peyote 5 plants
* LSD 5 tablets
* Ecstasy 4 tablets
* Amphetamine 2 grams
* Methamphetamine 2 grams
* Heroin 1.5 grams
* Coca 5 plants
* Cocaine 1 gram

Sounds great. I guess their RC laws are non-existent? =D

I'm going to see how easy it is to live in the CR as an english speaker.

^ Even though the case of Pickard is a bitch, you might want to kill many birds with one stone if you are moving all the way across the world for possession laws, I would check out many countries and factors for sure, lol.

I've heard this about mexico too. if not the same amounts, close to 'em.

doesn't have the amounts though.

loulou reed......what a cool nick, I'm listening to the New York album right now

@ the op, if you move to some country like the czech republic because they appear to have lenient drug laws you might want to check some other aspects of their lifestyle. I mean you know your financial situation better than I do and if you’re rich you won’t need to worry about a job; otherwise you might want to check out the 10.2 percent unemployment in the Czech republic…and God help you if you get sick in one of those third world countries

And Mexico? You don’t thing there’s a reason those people are killing themselves to get here?

lol americans think every country they never heard about before is a 3rd world country ??lmao

Portugal decriminalized personal possession of ALL drugs back in 2001. "Under Portugal's new regime, people found guilty of possessing small amounts of drugs are sent to a panel consisting of a psychologist, social worker and legal adviser for appropriate treatment (which may be refused without criminal punishment), instead of jail." As far as I know, it's the most liberal drug policy you're gonna find.

....dude the Czech Republic is a first world country just like we are.

Mexico on the other hand...yikes. Would not want to move there for their more "lenient" drug laws. The "law" there (if you can even call it that) isn't enforced very well either way, and if you're white or in the wrong place at the wrong time you could end up in a Mexican prison anyway, lenient "laws" be damned. Not to mention all the absolutely brutal drug related gang violence going on down there. Anyone else read the story recently about the massacre of 70 men and women at a ranch just south of the border? One of the victims survived a shot to the neck and crawled his way to safety by the side of the highway and notified a policeman.

Not the place to be right now, IMO.

Ugh, I heard about that too....truly awful. Mexico is NOT the place to be right now. The violence and corruption there has reached levels similar to the way Colombia was in the 80s...

Also, calling the Czech Republic a third-world country is one of the most ignorant things I've heard in a while. Jesus christ...

The Czech republic is amazing to visit.. I have been a few times.. I wouldn't drop everything and stay there just because of the drug laws..

eh, i was recently there and when purchasing the dealer told me that if he was caught selling, he'd possibly receive a "baton to the head." you can say "yeah, that is dealing, not possessing," but that logic obviously has its holes. but what that person told me could have been bullshit.

this should be in Drug Culture.

you should also look into laws regarding employment in the EU.
you can't just drop everything, move to the EU and get a job, its not that easy.

Not to mention their policies on obtaining citizenship. Every country is different and any first world country is going to have a process you have to go through in order to become a citizen, and it's usually lengthy and probably costly.

A lot of people seem to have this fantastical notion that you can just pack up your stuff and move to anywhere you please, but the reality is that there are hoops you have to jump through to make it official practically anywhere (unless you want to move to Somalia or something). In my opinion, going through all of this just to be somewhere with more lenient drug laws is pretty dumb and will probably end up being a decision you regret, if you even go through with it at all.
