etc etc (well, probably only 1 etc as it's a one page document with about 4 bullet points on it - low literacy version for their supporters?).FAMILY FIRST opposes policies such as giving free heroin to addicts, opening injecting rooms across the country and abolishing penalties for possessing drugs, as these all send the wrong message
But light on detail..Labor's response to the tragedy of drug abuse and related crime will be comprehensive, encompassing demand and supply reduction strategies, prevention of onset of use and early intervention as well law enforcement and harm minimisation policies. Labor is committed to an evidence-based strategy for dealing with illicit drugs that aims to improve safety in the community by reducing the level of drug-related crime; to reduce the spread of illness; to keep people alive; and to find new ways to reduce the use of illicit drugs in our community.
33. increase the availability of harm reduction programs, including needle and syringe exchanges
and medically supervised injecting rooms and implement a rigorous scientific trial of prescribed heroin to registered users in line with the proposed 1996 ACT government heroin trial.
Nice one fellers!3. Nationally Consistent Drug Laws
Australia lacks a national standard relating to quantities of drugs involved in establishing whether an offence relates to a commercial quantity or a trafficable quantity. Even within the one jurisdiction, the quantities that constitute an offence can vary from drug to drug, defying logic or consistency. Through COAG, the Coalition will seek a national standard relating to the quantities involved in the trafficking and possession of illicit drugs and nationally consistent penalties for all illicit drugs offences. Our policy will ensure that drug offenders are dealt with consistently by judicial systems across the nation so that there are no legal or definitional loopholes between states and territories that allow offenders to be treated differently across jurisdictions.
I hate australian politics.
