Opioids Methadone worries

You may want to consider doing a 21 Day Detox at the Methadone clinic.
You may also want to consider a short-term Suboxone taper.

I spent 10 years on Methadone, but I'm now on generic Subutex which for me is less costly than Methadone maintenance and I don't have to deal with any of the clinic drama/politics/BS

With your level of drug use, a 21 Day detox might work well for you.

One thing to keep in mind is that when it comes to opiates, is that nobody rides for free - you end up paying one way or another for all those "feel good" days and nights.

You can try going cold turkey, but with most people, the W/D's are bad and the only relief comes in the form of more opiates or Subs.

With your history, I think you're a good candidate for a 21 Day stint were you will be tapered off of a relatively low dose of Methadone.

How much Methadone did the clinic dose you?
I imagine 30 or 40 mg?

A 21-Day detox will be a bit uncomfortable and you will have some W/D symptoms, especially after your last day, but that is likely going to be better than just quitting cold turkey.

Methadone has a pretty long half-life, so you're probably still getting some of the benefits from your last dose.

Good luck, it's going to be a long weekend.

If you can get some Valium or other "comfort" meds to help you thru the W/D's, they will help smooth things out.

The worst part of W/D's for me was always the inability to get any sleep.

Howard,..I was told at the mmt that it would be a 30 mg dose but I've done plenty of dones in the last 6-7 months to know that 30- mg feels like.To be honest, it felt more like I was given a placebo due to the headache I had a few hours later.3 x 10mg pills taken at once would normally have me feeling pretty ole good.I'm sleeping much better than I thought I would and my 1st thought waking up this morning is that I felt a little better.Perhaps that was just wishful thinking but who knows.....Anyways, I will never return to that clinic and I'm set on doing this cold turkey.I could go score some roxi's right now but I won't. To be honest, this isn't my 1st time being hooked on pain meds but prior to this I was clean for about 5 years.Like I mentioned in an earlier post, I know that I will have to be more honest with myself next time I receive pain meds legitimately.I've been through worse, and I'll get through this.

I called the methadone clinic and spoke to the director about 2 hours ago.I told him that I appreciate his help and what he does for people but that I just didn't feel it was for me.He spoke with me for a few and assured me that although their doors are open for me, that he'd really like to see me accomplish my goal of going cold turkey and beating this thing asap. After that I spoke to a couple of close family members and told them the truth.Although it was dissapointing to know that I've gotten to this place, they were supportive and happy to know that I am cleaning up.I made them aware of the fact that I will feel rough for the next 5 days and luckily I have arranged those days off of work.I also acquired some immodium and benedryl which I'm hoping will help ease the w/d symptoms.
As for my habit, I have used daily for the last 6-7 months and the amount of opiates has increased over time. It's nothing for me to take 200 mg of roxicodone in a day, and on the days that I didn't have roxis I got by on 10 mg dones of which I would take 2-3 or sometimes 4.I never did allow myself to mainline anything and took either orally or snorted(roxi's). I know there are people with a lot worse habits and part of my reason for stopping is to avoid becoming much worse.I just don't know what it was but the entire time I was in the mmt (about 2 hrs for intake) something inside me was screaming out "No!".I'm not ashamed to mention that by the time my "#" was called, I walked into that dosing booth almost in tears.I just cannot continue like this and never in a million years intended for things to become as they are.I think that the w/d's might provide me another good reason not to ever be like this again.I will post my progress in hopes that it might help someone or at least myself.I do appreciate those who posted responses and hope the best for all of us.I know that there is a much better life and I won't stop until I achieve it.If I succeed and I know I will, I know that I've got to be more honest with myself the next time I do really need something for pain.

I think you are making a great decision... your usage is very low for someone to be on methadone. if you do decide to go on you will probably be held by the state minumum dose they give you since your tolerance is where it is at.

I am on methadone now and telling you to go on bupe..so take it rfrom me. edit..looks like you started mdone. I would say see how it works out for you but all you are going to do is go from having a 200mg tolerance to a 2000mg tolerance. I am on 80mg for 4 months and I can easily sniff 3 oc 80s in one dose (and that is 3 days OFF of methadone..if I was on my 80mg dose I could probably sniff infinite j/k).

Ok well a few hours after waking up and I won't even lie....I feel like shit.I'm really thinking of heading to the drug store and trying some immodium. The family member who was going to get me some a couple days ago got mylanta (bless her for trying).I am apprehensive though because I fear that it might just delay or even restart my w/d proccess, and my #1 goal is to get opiate free as fast as possible no matter what. One thing I've learned about bluelight is that there seem to always be conflicting reports on the topic of Loperamide.I am trying really hard to beat this thing and the worst part about it is understanding that the only way for me to achieve my goal is to suffer.Any advice on whether or not I should try Loperamide?

it's almost 8 a.m. On day 2 without taking anything.i almost feel like it's day 3 sence the dose at the mmt clinic seemed to do very little if anything that resembled what i usually felt like from taking pk's.although i do feel crummy, it's not as bad as i expected.one thing that i'm feeling right now is a return of something inside that i can best describe as my "glow" .it may be all in my head but i don't think so.although i could score me some weed or even some benzo's, i think i'm better off without that.i accept the fact that i got myself into this and i realize that i should pay a price for my actions.all around me i see people who enjoy a life without chemicals who appear to be happy, and that is my goal.i may be a fool for saying this but perhaps one day i can use this and other experiences with drugs to help others, but for now i'll just take things one day at a time.god bless...

it takes time at the md clinic to become stable on a dose but once you do you'll feel alot better

I'll feel a lot better by not taking anything. It's kind of sad how many people encourage me to get myself dependent on other drugs.I know this don't say too much for me but I suppose if I didn't want to hear that then I shoulda kept my dumb ass clean.Sometimes ignorance can be bliss.

Don't sign up for methadone, I did about 4 years ago and its the worst decision i ever made! Methadone is 10 times harder to stop than the opiates you are addicted to today. If anything, go the suboxone route. Methadone is not for everybody and I wish somebody had been there to tell me it was a bad idea... This is not to say it hasn't benefited me and helped get my life back on track...but when it comes time to stop taking methadone I don't know how I'm going to do it. Best of luck to you.

Only when I was shooting up huge amounts of methadone (250-600 mg a day) did I find it difficult to stop without great discomfort. But drinking a moderate dose 130-150 mg, it was surprisingly easy to quit, cold turkey was no childs play but compared to heroin it was nothing. Tapering down (quickly) was almost painless. I'd heard so much of "methadone is much worse than heroin" but it definitely wasn't for me. Admittedly I always got back to my beloved heroin sooner or later, but if you can quit cold turkey without anything else, it's so much worth it! You are not really human on methadone, your laugh is non-existent, or false, your sex drive is diminished, you don't really care about other people.

The best advice I can give you - not that you will follow it, but if you did, it will help you: Stay away from white sugar, white flour, pizza, junk food, and the likes. Eat rye bread whole grained and as much raw vegetables, and raw fruit - oranges aren't that remarkable, but apples are great - you can, and buy a good natural vitamin, mineral, amino acid bottle, all in one. Get it in your health food store. I've suffered through hundreds of WD's since the early 70's, and the "healthy eating" is by far the thing that will reduce the pain, most efficiently.

It has been proven again and again with rats and humans, that junk food increases drug craving.

Well my w/d's seem to be coming and going in waves now.Not to say that I'm comfortable at times, but the worst parts seem to subside for a while.I never did buy any immodium and am mainly taking ibuprofen and benedryl plus I took a 200mg b6 vitamin that probably done little.I have somebody who will give me a soma when they return home this evening.I hope that will help because these w/d's are really getting old.I am praying that when I wake tomorrow the worst will be over.I spent a good deal of time researching peoples w/d stories and even watching some on youtube. From what I've seen there are people who have gone through w/d's that make mine seem petty.I think that if I had returned to the methadone clinic I would have been given an increasingly stronger dose which would have made it much worse on me later.I'm pretty certain that a 120mg methadone each day habit would make for much worse w/d's.This is either day 3 or 4 or somewhere inbetween but no matter what I refuse to take any more opiates as that would totally make these last 4 days worth of w/d's all for nothing.I know I screwed up to get here but I refuse to allow myself to get worse, not just for myself but also for those that my life affects. As I said before, I really do appreciate the feedback because positive feedback helps a lot.Man....I hope this is over soon....Peace

It's sunday and I am feeling a whole lot better. Not totally w/d free but pretty close. The funny thing is the diarrhea didnt hit til this morning. In any event the last several days sucked ass but in the end it will have been worth it to get this fucking monkey off my back.Peace

I've been on methadone for a while, and I care about other people very much. I don't know where you got the idea that MMT patients are not human, and care only about themselves, because I'm sorry but that is complete and utter BS.

>>One thing to keep in mind is that when it comes to opiates, is that nobody rides for free - you end up paying one way or another for all those "feel good" days and nights.>>

those who avoid a tolerance ride free :P

>>it may be all in my head but i don't think so.although i could score me some weed or even some benzo's, i think i'm better off without that>>

your call, you know what you can handle psychologically

just don't think that you have to suffer for it, as if you deserve it. for some, who aren't too addicted to pot or benzos, pot or benzos can help. and you should feel fine about doing what you can to feel balanced. just watch diet/exercise/fluids (if able to) and yeah immodium is useful

ElmerBud you are doing a great job that you decided to quit cold-turkey, I don't think your opiate withdrawals will be that bad, and you lasted 4 days so a few more days and you will be back to (almost) normal. Definitely no need to get on Methadone, because I am on Methadone for 2 years now (just 'cos I was abusing Codeine) and the withdrawals are HELL, on just 10mg a day! I have tried to quit so many times, but it lasts only a couple of days and I'm back on Methadone.

I don't know about others, but Methadone doesn't get me high or feel any better, actually I feel tired, want to sleep all the time, I'm frustrated, apathetic (nothing on TV is funny or interesting, every website is stupid, music which I used to love bores me), I don't listen much to people or neither do I care about their problems (which is sad because I was such a compassionate person), I'm totally the opposite I was and want to go back but can't. But, one day I hope I will get the strength and cope with the withdrawal and get it off my life.

Like you, I never meant to get this far, but I was selfish and now I have to suffer for the time I was "high". You can try to use benzos for the anxiety, but please be careful (use them only if really necessary), you don't want a benzo addiction (it's worse as meth, coke or heroin...) - I've read a lot of people saying that they used benzos to deal with anxiety, but after tolerance builds up they don't help anymore, you use them just to function and not go through withdrawals - I should know - I take them for over 6 years now! So, don't listen to people who recommend you to take other drugs to cope with this withdrawal, because you will just end up addicted on another chemical!

No matter how hard it seems just keep going and soon you will feel great and forget about all this. When you get sober, I will read this thread to keep myself going through withdrawals. May God help you!

PS: Sorry, this was long, and I didn't want to sound critical just giving my opinion.

maybe thats just you cause i'm a hell of a lot better person on mdone than i was running the streets

thats why i said it was just me. I thought it was funny because the statement that methadone makes you non human seemed incredibly over the top, but in my case I did become a worse person on it. When I got on methadone I just traded in my heroin for I.V coke and xanax. It wasn't the methadone that made me make those choices, but it did allow me to have the money to afford drugs that in the end were just as bad as heroin. I guess you can say it was just coincidental that I became a fucking asshole when I joined the clinic, and I'm not saying you're a piece of shit.

I would definitely suggest trying Suboxone first. For a small percentage of people it doesn't work. I didn't have any success with it, but pretty much everyone else I know has. If for some reason this doesn't work, then move onto MMT. I hated detoxing from MMT. It was one of the worst experiences of my life. The longest, most awful withdrawals I could have ever imagined. Gah, I'll take h withdrawals any day of the week.

as has been said on this forum countless times, the detox is and allways will be the easiest part of coming of a drug. how many people go to jail and dont touch a drug while in there for a year or two, then score with their release grant. i think for at least 70% of addicts long term or lifelong maintenance is the only answer
