What do you think of Psytrance (/GOA) ?

Always thought it was dull, repetitive, mindless crap, to be honest... Then I went to a BL meet and proceeded to nom a gram of top-notch MDMA crystal (not all at once :D), 500ug of acid and roughly my own bodyweight in ketamine. Kinda "got it" then and spent several hours dancing about (had never danced before in my life really) and also playing with my magical, mystical, multi-coloured, multidimensional ball of wool. There is a very slight possibility that I may have hallucinated the magic wool... kept me entertained for hours though :D

Eat Static are one of the only psy-trance(ish) bands I could listen to either sober or wasted. I don't mind a bit of psy with the right kinda chems in me in the right setting but it still mostly bores me rigid sober - find it kinda irritating really. But with the right setting and dose(s) it goes down just fine with me :)

One of the bands I do like I don't think has been mentioned yet - The Zap! Another one of Raja Ram's side projects. I like quite a lot of the TipWorld stuff but generally the more chilled/ambienty stuff unless I'm all hopped up on goofballs and stuff. The Zap! are more psytrancey like 1200 Mics but have some more chilled stuff in amongst it too. Perky example - Proton Pusher - more chilled example - 360 Volts - and purely cos the vid looks pretty good tripping - I Can See Rainbows

I'd still generally prefer to listen to acid house, IDM/braindance (how poncey are those for genre names? 8)) or breakcore and stuff when on MDMA and/or tripping but psy does have it's place and can be perfect sometimes.
Definitely +1 for The Zap!

Have you listened to younger brother?

here's a trancey song: Scanner

and a more chilled out one:Happy Pills

and what the hell:Crumblenaut

EDIT Sorry Limesmoke :)

I actually really used to dig goa trance. For a long time. It was one of the first few electronic music genres that I actually truly enjoyed. I also did a lot of MDMA at the time. Haha. I guess you could say that I didn't so much get tired of it, but it helped me transition over to other styles of electronic music.

I have went through phases of listening to nearly every genre, and now I try to keep an even balance between psychill and other subgenres of trance. A lil idm is good every once in awhile too. I would always recommend to balance out your genres. And never to listen to any one song too much because then it gets worn out and you stop listening to it after awhile. (:

I LOVE all music, and it makes up a good important part of my life. I live and breathe music, and beats come out of every pore, from my head to my feet. I like a good goa trance song every once in awhile, and I agree that psychill will never replace shamanistic trance, although, there are artists like Entheogenic which make the exception), but i was just simply pointing out styles that I've found to be better for the chillout style.

My thoughts exactly haha

I love psytrance. I was going to go to the Symmetry (a festival near where I live)..

I was exactly like you bardo, absolutely despised all electronic music even that from the krautrock era. That was until one night loaded on shrooms, I was completely dissolved into the groovy Beas of frozen ghost. I believe there is some psytrance for everyone out there.

Love the stuff, found it before I indulged in psychedelics and it just seemed to be the right genre for me and stuck with it ever since. Really like darker psytrance with a dirtier beat and psytrance with a nice guitar riff thrown in hear and there e.g. 1200 mg but also love good old Infected Mushroom.

Hmmm. This is hard to explain, because I'm not anti-drugs by any means. But does anyone else find a whole genre based on a class of drugs painfully pretentious? LOL. I don't know why.

If it wasn't for mdma most electronic music would have been discarded as a annoying fad long ago, forever to fill up the bargin bin with polka and chanting monks records. ;)

I attend a fair few Doofs and by their nature they are mainly psytrance (although dubstep has started to infiltrate lately). There is a wanky element that beleives that psytrance is the gifts frm the lsd gods and no other music can be enjoyed while tripping. To be honest I can pretty much listen to two tin cans being tapped to gether and still enjoy myself. They only thing I ask is the 3am to dawn sets wind down to some chilled ambiant tunes while I try and sleep in my tent. ;)

My musical tastes are wide and varied, from hip hop, reggae and dub to good old fashioned rock and roll. You can't tell me that The Rolling Stones or The Beatles didn't know what they were doing when lsd crashed into their world in the 60's. If given the choice I am happy to listen to a mellow Jack Johnson album over some blips and beats.

Love listening to some of the downtempo stuff. Shpongle, Entheogenic, Younger Brother, Hallucinogen etc.
Xamanist is quite good, too. You can download some of his tracks for free at Last.FM

Have a look at Ektoplazm as well. It's a site filled with free, downloadable psytrance albums. %)

Great Artists mentioned there, might as well add: Abukas, Aes Dana, Androcell, Bluetech, Carbon Based Lifeforms, H.U.V.A Network, Kuba, Rena Jones, Solar Fields, Ott, The Orb, Youth, Zero Cult,

Ohh god.. this just goes on with great ambient, psybient, downtemp artists.... good to see another user of Last FM too :)

using Ektoplazm, as mentioned above, find the artist Disco Hooligans. They have two albums, Clear Skies, and Darjeeling express....TOTALLY FUCKING AWESOME !!! Get it, doooo eeeet !

But yeah, i love Psy in all it's forms. Sometimes it's hard to find a good mood for Darkpsy, but it's still awesome, and I still find a time a place to squeeze in some darkpsy time.

I never totally appreciated it until I went to a psy event...I guess Shambhala music festival was my first such event, and then I recently saw Shpongle, which was balls to the wall fucking awesomely good fun. But yeah, psy is awesome, totally gets you into some trippy headspaces, plus i love it for bike rides, and doing chores, and other such things. One of my favorite kinds of music for sure !

2 amazing tunes, listen on high quality and crank it up! Prepare to feel like you're in the headspace without even tanking LSD....

Here's a cool music video for you psytrance fans:

I actually like this kinda psy, otherwise I'm, 99% Goa Trance.

And yes Shpongle, Entheogenic and Ott are probably the next best thing to listen to while tripping....unless you plan on dancing or moving around then put on Goa/psytrance. Goa Trance is also great for social doses of LSD, it makes everyone feel connected immedietly. There's some magic in goa trance and then magic in LSD, put em together and you got yourself BLISSSS.
