FIFA World Cup 2010

Cappello needs to do something radically different, clearly what we are doing now isn't working. In my opinion, he should try and do something to bring the form out of some of our top players that they display for their clubs, whether it be a different formation or even starting different players. Defoe and Joe Cole should start.

He will probably not change a thing though, and hopefully we will play better this time. However there are plenty of other 'great' teams who have performed as bad if not worse so far, so could still work out well in the end. If we win the next game some nerves will be gone and hopefully Rooney will stop falling over the ball.

In 90 we drew the first 2 games against the Paddies and the Tokers.........

Yeah a slow start could be them just getting into gear, finding their feet, etc. At least that's what we tell ourselves now!

I really enjoyed the Slovenia USA game yesterday, was one of the few quality matches so far. End to end stuff all the way.

Spain v the clockmakers was good, as was the Cheese eating surrender monkeys v the Mexicans.

I also took a lot of pleasure seeing the Krauts lose.......:)

Worst game so far has to be the overpayed cunts of the Premier League v Algeria.

I am trying to block out the memory of that game last night. So Bad.

Denmark look decent here, that lad Kjaer is immense.

New Zealand force a draw with Italy! :D

Good game. Good result.

Wood had a cracker, as did Nelson... and I hope they protest his yellow card to FIFA, which was totally undeserved.

We attacked a lot but were quite unlucky, I think the Kiwis totally deserved the yellow cards, they played quite dirty, especially in the beginning, a lot of deliberate elbowing, especially from Killon(sp?).

Still I think we're out, like France.

Deliberate time-wasting is a yellow card offence, Nelson deserved that card, it's in the rules book.

Out of the five or so incidents that involved elbows when competing for headers, four of them were legitimate and the Italians acted like they'd had a missile hit them in the face. Which I suppose is normal for the Italians. I think Bet365 actually give odds for how many Italian crybabies will be struck down by invisible snipers.

Although there was one such challenge where the Italian fella went to ground clutching the wrong side of his face! :D Most humorous. If they're going to cheat... at least do it convincingly.

Regarding Nelson... ummmm... he had cramp. He received treatment but was probably booked because he refused the stretcher. They add the time on for stoppages.

Like Tambo says, the Italians were diving and clutching their faces when replays clearly showed they were getting touched on the shoulder or neck, at most.

Maybe if they hadn't spent so much time rolling around on the floor, they'd have had more time to try and score a goal =D

Greatest ever performance by NZ, by a long way. Disappointed with Italy: they should have been able to outplay us and outscore us, and they didn't.

Mental Kenny: you're not out. All you have to do is beat Slovakia, and you're through. Even if you draw, NZ will probably lose to Paraguay, which puts Italy through in second place.

Nah come on there were a couple of bad fouls in the beginning, a couple of elbows in the face and Cannavaro got hit in the chest pretty bad by that Killon guy, another referee could have easily given him a second yellow card and sent him off.

We did outplay you though, we basically dominated all throughout the game and had a lot of chances, most of the game was played in your half, your goalie is a fucking warrior though and you did some excellent defending.

Still I'm really not impressed with Italy, if we meet a serious team we're getting owned, massively, we still played a lot better than England or France though, at least we created some chances.

NZ soldiered strong all throughout the game though, I really liked their composure, one mistake and we would have scored, the Kiwi defense was superb really.

Also the NZ player who scored was a yard offside, so the NZ goal should have been annulled, still much respect for NZ, really admire their perseverance.

would love to see NZ get to the second round

didnt pay too much attention to the game but italy can be a really hard side to break down and get a result from so fair play

It's going to be a South American dominated tournament, they're the only teams playing well. The Europeans have all been gash.

Dutch aint been gash. I think they'll go far, especially when Robben gets back.

Yeah, they weren't exactly what you'd expect from Holland though, were they? But I think they'll go through to the quarters, at the very least.

Been a poor year so far for the Europeans. Really poor. It's coming to something when you pin your hopes on the Germans getting their shit together.

Great first-half goal for Brazil. Still trying to understand how he got that into the roof of the net.

Dutch usually start strong and then fade, so I reckon the reverse will happen here.

Plus don't discount the Spanish. They had 22 shots against swiss and still lost. I think they'll win their next 2 games easily.

Killen didn't get booked - do you mean Fallon? I agree Fallon could have had a couple of cards but they would have been fairly soft.

Smeltz was offside, but honestly I couldn't tell when watching the game - I changed my mind 3 or 4 times, sometimes it looked like two Italian players had touched the ball (in reality, it was Winston Reid and then Cannavero, so Smeltz was offside when Reid touched it, but it took me a few replays to tell).

Your penalty was soft too. It was a penalty, but you'll see dozens of incidents like that where a penalty isn't given, and then every so often, one will be.

So I guess things balanced themselves out....:)

Things will be tough for Italy though - looks like the Netherlands in the next round (unless Italy beat Slovakia and NZ-Paraguay draw....)

Oh wow. Fuck the Ivory Coast.

Absolutely disgraceful. Fucking cheating prick.

Kaka going to be out of most the rest of the Cup now.

[Ivory Coast player ran into him, at slow speed, away from the ball, then threw himself to the ground like he'd been shot, and Kaka got sent off. 5 minutes from the end of a game that they can't win]

What Kid says is spot on, wouldn't discount Holland or Spain just yet! Having said that the strongest sides so far were Argentina and Uruguay. Brazil have looked good tonight. Kaka's sending off was a piss take, referee has been influenced purely by players reaction IMO.
