Royal Doof 2010 ~ 12-14 June

i rekon we get all the people who are no longer going and go on a camping trip... nothing wrong with camping is there. i would also like to see the reply the ararat gave to them i bet it was full of crap like "Due to the angles of the road and vibrations from the music coming through the tree it would be to confusing for a medical team to navigate there way to the festival".

I am getting a new country property which joins onto the cobaw state forest which would be perfect for a doof in spring/summer, but seems like the permit issue is a massive pain in the arse and could be awfully tricky to organize a legitimate legal party. Will work on it though!

I'm not 100% sure. This would most def be a non profit thing. But i'm guessing you still owe a duty of care to punters and if anything goes wrong, the organizer would be responsible.

If you don't have the right permits and the cops rock up, i'm guessing the organizer would receive a big fat fine! Prove me wrong, but i don't think it would make much of a difference if it was for profit or not. There is still a gathering of people :S
 
If it is on private property i cant seem the harm in it does anyone know where we could go to find these things out? the reason i moved to melbourne is because i want to be a Psy DJ and artisit further down the track (i may still be a beginner but everyday i spend hours mixing and slowly im getting there!) and i want to be apart of the scene more so then i am now even if that means just picking up trash after and helping setting up for event cuz in the long run all that is gonna do for me is creat pathway to get myself heard! the offer i put out to zemullman was the use of my decks for a party (within reason ofcoarse im not about to put the thousands of dollars i have spent on equipment in harms way) so if anyone here knows an organizer or does some organizing drop me a PM because i would love to help out in any form of these event XD.
 
^^ not for profit = taking money from people to cover costs = paid for event = illegal without the correct permits.

even if you're having it on your own private property, it's still illegal to my knowledge. (e.g. the mardi grass doof was on private property but didn't have the relevant permits hence, the owners of the property can legally be prosecuted).

I believe there is some grey area surrounding a free party, e.g. mates camping in the bush but i don't know how that works on private property...


i was just reading the thread about this on Oztrance and wow! I can't believe some of the negative comments on there, it's crazy.
Although the negative comments are in the majority, I'm hoping they're coming from the minority of the community... doofing isn't just about paying money to attend a "club" in the bush and get wasted and i kinda feel sorry for the people who don't get that - they don't get to share the same amazing experience as we do :D

Im sure they get that its more than just a club in the bush, everyone's just really dissapointed, myself included.

It is a pretty weak effort if you ask me, people have booked flights/hire cars to come from interstate or overseas, and they'll now all be out of pocket for those expenses because I for one wouldnt be willing to come thousands of kilometers for a club psy night in a venue that can only hold a few hundred people.

I cant whinge to hard, I live in melbourne CBD and can now effectively walk home from the event but still, I've been looking forward to this all semester and now that its effectively canceled I've lost a little faith in the world tbh lol.

Its not a doof if it aint in the bush, I for one dont want to trip balls to a mash of psychedelic tunes inside a club venue, but I will in the absence of a better option.

If anyone know's of a private party/gathering/whatever in place of royal, I'd love to know about it. My group is a bunch of very friendly trippers and we'd all lop off our right leg for the chance to get freaky in the bush. So please PM me if anyone knows anything, we have plenty of camping gear, initiative and easy going aproach to life to go round ;)

I fully understand how upset, pissed off and heart broken people are. If Winter Psyfari was cancelled, i'd be a crying mess over in the corner of the room somewhere.

From what I hear, there was definitely some pretty poor management regarding the site by this crew and i understand how much time, effort and money people have expended on this.
I'd be mightily annoyed at the situation too but I wouldn't look at it as some evil master plan by the organisers to ruin everyone's weekend plans and run away with their money, which is what the attitude of a lot of people seems to be.
Especially considering that from my understanding, these guys seem to be long standing and normally well respected members of the community.

Hell, I'm sure these guys have lost money in the past putting on parties for the punters.

Oh, and i do happen to know of another party...PSYFARI!!
I know it's a bit of a trek but the mission to get there is all part of the adventure, right? ;)
 
I have a lot of friends who were ticket-holders for this years Royal, so I've been following the whole train-wreck from a distance. A friend just announced he received an email from the organisers stating the following;

We know that you are all peeved with this news and want a response now but with everyone in the same situation please be patient for us to get back to you.

We appreciate those who have shown support but also understand the issues and concerns of those who have vented and expressed their disappointment.

Details about refunds…

Please do not hassle the shops for refunds as they are unable to process them for you.

We will refund people who attend the venue…
$30 for $80 tickets
$40 for $100 tickets
$50 for $120 tickets

In order to return money to everyone we have established a refund process that takes into account any funds that may come into the club.

We can only process full returns via post… as this is the only way for us to account for them and to ensure we return all we can.

Although you will have three options –

1. Part Refund
2. Post to PO BOX for refund
3. For interstate people - attend the NSW Winter Psyfari – (where our tickets are now valid)…

Please note due to security reasons we are not able to provide full refunds on the night so please don’t expect this to be the case..

For these refunds we will require your unused ticket(s) to be sent to;

Can anyone tell me why they wouldn't be offering full refunds? A similar thing happened to an event in Brisbane recently (where a bush event was changed to an indoor city-based one) and we were given full refunds, plus the organisers even went so far as to offer to pay our booking fees as well. :\

It's a terribly shitty situation that in some respects, seems like it could have been sorted had certain factors been organised earlier but it also seems as though the organisers are doing the best they can to make the most of this shit situation.

And yay!! I didn't want to say anything earlier as it wasn't confirmed but ROYALE TICKETS CAN NOW BE USED AT PSYFARI!!

7 hours drive wouldn't it be? Or possibly longer.. im not overly sure.. but i know it's fucking huge.

I had my annual leave approved today ..... for nothing.

But hey, i could do with a few days off work regardless. Im pretty run down. We might still even go to Royal... but we'll probably end up leaving early due to it being too packed. I am giving the crew my support though, as this must be a terrible stressful time for them and in all honesty they have given sooooo much to the scene over the years, surely they have earned peoples respect and deserve a little support through this tough time.

Bitching about ticket refunds is the last thing on my mind.. i just hope to god Royal comes back better than ever, and that crew as a whole don't stop putting on the awesome free parties like they always have.

The Royal crew are good people.
 
Whereis says 10 from "melbourne" to about where it's time to turn off the main road.
from memory, it's at least another 40 mins in and the road won't be in as such good condition after all the rain.

Yeah it's a drive but HELL YEAH it'll be worth it!!

as a mate posted on facebook last night: "word on the street is there will be an influx of Victorians to Psyfari after the last minute cancellation of the Royal Doofs outdoor party in Melbourne... I for one welcome our Victorian doof allies :D The Psyfari Beast just got bigger" =D
 
^^ you wouldn't be talking of the doof that the organisers have asked not to be advertised in any way or for any randoms to be invited to, would you? :\
