Jobseeker's Allowance Megathread ver. The Jeremy Kyle Fan Club

fair enough its only a small percentage of tax that go to people on benefits, but still no one can deny the fact that too much money is spent on benefits.

Well, they could really couldnt they? Should have become obvious by now that a lot of people have vastly different views to you on this subject mate.

The unions were recently pushing for job seekers allowance to be pushed up to something you can begin to live on - think it was £100 a week. Certainly british benefits are by far the most piss poor in Europe.

if they put jsa up to £100 a week then there woud be even more people happy to stay on benefits. the idea of doing that is fucking ridiculous

In certain countries you get 650£ a month benefits , even if you're studying full time. The people that work pay 40% tax for it though and the self employed even a bit more.
Makes me kinda laugh when the mail has a go at the 'welfare state' and the scroungers swindling tons of money yet most know it ain't that easy to even get your 60 something squid a week.

So how do you explain that where the benefits are massively higher - like in Germany or France there's less unemployment? Why isn't everyone tossing it off? How come that the UK - where benefits are fucking wank, there's this alleged problem of people tossing it off?

I fear you're talking out the back of your arse. There arn't that many people who would want to survive on £100 a week. Once you've paid the leccy and the gas bought your food, how much have you got left for your drugs?

Well folk are managing on £65 or less a week otherwise there wouldn't be so many long term unemploted so £100 a week would be quite a difference. Folk would manage a lot better than they would now, still not great money though.

Unemployment figures are roughly the same everywhere.

Proving my point that it makes no difference whatsoever how much you pay in benefits.

Increase JSA to £120 a week and give people something to live on.

im not going to argue about it, paying £120 a week for jsa is a fucking joke (even the idea of it makes me angry)

Why is the idea unthinkable?

Do you think if they made drugs legal then everyone would become a heroin addict? Things arn't always as simple as they seem. If the jobs are there people will take the jobs. If there's a recession and there's no fucking jobs they take dole. What's the problem? I'm not convinced that all these people you seem to think stay on the dole having a right old time actually exist.

Nothin to exiting , just workin in an office, been outta work for six months now so gotta get used to actually being clean, awake/sober lol. But its a step in the right direction.
The last straw was when I was sent on a bloody 2 week "gateway" course . Had to sit there and be patronised all day. My "supervisor" was in the year above me at school for gods sake! My brother shagged her! And there she was telling me how to "positively restructure" my life and that I had "exaggerated" anxiety and dyslexia . Was a complete piss take.
Still I suppose it did motivate me back into working lol

Was it patronising because you knew her and your brother shagged her or because you were embarresed that she knew you? I got the woman on the A4e course to admit she judged people like ''us'' at interviews and the whole group ripped into her.

Don't talk shite!

Have you ever tried to live on 100 quid a week?

When I lived on my own I struggled to live on a temping wage of 180 a week and pay rent and food, bills, travel to work. I had no money for nights out, clothes, drugs.

yeh ive actually been on the dole a few times in the past it wasnt easy or nice. the main thing that made me want to get of the dole and start working again was the fact that i was always skint.

both points are right.
some people who work for 120-150 week
would love 100 for stayin home

food rent and having a life is more than 100 a week imo.

over here in ireland its 196 a week dole
some people get rent allowance and medical card and a few others on top of that
they are better off that folk on 350-400 a week who work
