The long wait is finally over as hard rock gods Metallica bring their World Magnetic Tour to New Zealand and Australia this October/November!

The epic world tour started out in Arizona, October 2008 in support of their current album Death Magnetic (Universal Music).

During the last decade alone Metallica have played to a collective audience of more than 3.5 million people. Currently on tour in Europe, the Australian and New Zealand dates mark the culmination of their world tour and will be Metallica’s first Australian shows since January 2004.

Formed in 1981, Metallica have become one of the most popular and influential bands in the world, successfully spanning the divide between metal and mainstream audiences and selling more than 100 million records worldwide (the 7th biggest selling act in American music history).

Taking to the stage for more than two hours Metallica will feature material drawn from throughout their career, performing in the round in the centre of the arena, on a custom built stage and with their full world tour production.

TOUR DATES*:
Mon 18 Oct - Brisbane Entertainment Centre
Fri 22 Oct - Burswood Dome, Perth
Wed 10 Nov - Acer Arena, Sydney
Mon 15 Nov - Adelaide Entertainment Centre
Thu 18 Nov - Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne

Metclub presale is on NOW until the 7th of May at 9am for members. I could only get silver seating tickets an hour ago. They are $130. If you are not a Metclub member you can join for $60 and get a code to get access to the presale, presale.

Visa presale is on May 11th at 12pm.

General sale is May 13th at 9am.

All at Ticketek.

I'm going to try and get standing tickets at one of the other allocations but if not then I still have 4 silver tickets.

WOO HOO!!! =D Very Happy.

^^ Haha that is so awesome dude. You sound like as much of a Metallica fan as I am a Pearl Jam fan. Travelling to multiple cities to see our favourite band FTW! =D

My boyfriend is a HUGE fan of Metallica, we've been together for over 6 years and the whole time he has been gradually infiltrating my brain with Metallica goodness. Now that they're touring again I am seriously applying myself to become a proper fan so that I can enjoy the concert to the fullest potential. Metallica-training, if you will.

It's going well, I'm focussing on ...Justice and the black album this month. I already know Master of Puppets and ReLoad quite well :)

I've checked out their recent setlists and it seems they're always opening with either "That Was Just Your Life" or "Creeping Death" (<3) and ALWAYS closing with "Seek & Destroy" :)

See? I am doing my research! Hahaha. The things we do for the people we love =D

Oh, and as a side-note, this thread's prefix should probably be Australia-wide ;)

I'll definitely be going to the Sydney show if I can get a floor ticket. I won't go though if only seat tickets are left. I did that for Rage Against the Machine and it sucked. What's the point of seeing a band if they're tiny figures on a stage? May as well watch a live DVD.

Too many year of punk gigs in which I could punch the band members if I so wished to have spoiled me.

^^ I completely disagree mate, it's better to BE there than not be, regardless of the seating.

Wellllll, maybe, no. Let's rethink that statement...
It sucks to be right up the back.
But if you get seats in the first 20 rows or so, it's totally fine.
In my opinion :)

I was considering going to the Melbourne show based on price. $130 for Metallica isn't happening for me, given I'd only enjoy about half of the setlist.

I'll admit the fact that I can see Overkill for about $60ish, or less, hasn't helped convince me to go to Metallica.

^^ Yeah, but they aren't just "any thrasher band". They're Metallica.
I'll be the first to admit that $130 is fucking steep, but I also think 25+ years of continued success kinda deserves a hefty price tag.

I bought my tickets for the Brisbane show through the presale at 12 noon today and am pretty excited since it falls the day after my 25th birthday. i really wish i could win a meet and greet in the raffle when the time comes in September. It looks like a sure thing that 2nd dates will be announced considering the way the dates are so far. I forgot to add the Aus/nz tour will be on livemetallica.com so you can buy the mixed live cd from which night you attended, and i know a few people who will film each show. Bootlegs for the win!

As I said, I thought that about Rage. Would have preferred to save the money really - it was shit. Plus everyone was all like "Oh Rage" so they had to stand up in front of their seats - so not only did I have a seat: I couldn't even fucking sit in it.

If bands are going to be so stupidly popular that they sell out venues then they should put on three shows so everyone gets a turn in the pit :)

If the show is in "The Round" as the promo says, does that mean that there are no floor or GA tix?

They should bring back the snake pit

P.S. I'm editing the title of this thread to show this is a national tour.

Come on OP, what you thinking....QLD??!!

I would expect second dates to be announced. Iron Maiden did that, and they're not as big as Metallica. I was in seats right at the back of Rod Laver Arena, and it was still kick arse. Depends on the venue, really.

I know it isn't just any thrash band, but still. Ehhh. If they brought the Big Four tour here, I'd definitely go.

I'm lucky to have seen "The Big four" over the years. Metallica in 04, Megadeth in 07/09 (twice) Slayer in 09 and Anthrax in 09. It would be nice if Sonisphere debuted in Australia.

It will come down to whether I score Splendor tickets tomorrow or not.

It is a good 5 months away so hopefully the boys have long enough to grow their hair again. They seriously lost their mo jo when they lost the poodle...

Given their cry baby antics surrounding napster I feel it would be fitting if I manage to attend this gig with counterfeit tickets. ;)

^^ That graph is being WAY too generous to St Anger ;)

Agreed ;)

... and justice for all and the black album are my favourites though =D I should be going to the Brisbane show if I can grab tickets before they sell out.

Edit: what's with all of these pre-pre-pre-sale, pre-pre-sale, and pre-sale tickets these days? I just got an email saying Visa tickets are on sale this Friday but general public tickets aren't on sale until next week. That said the powderfinger pre-sale ticket system crashed last week was a huge fuckup by ticketek right?

I'm 95% sure I'm going to the Melbourne gig. It's been just a tad over 21 years since I last saw them play. Sadly, never got to see the immensely immaculate beast Cliff burton play but I was 2-3 years off from his passing before I got to seem them play :\

Hopefully the setlist is good on the night (from research, it appears they actually have been mixing up set lists per night now)

My tribute to Cliff (besides the other people on my back), I guess it's been 17 years now I've had those done.

Yeah I found that as well, upon researching recent set lists. Did they not used to mix it up?? Sorry I'm a Metallica noob :D

And, awesome tatts mate!!
