I have a friend, who is writing a book. Not because he wants to, it just seems the right thing to do. The book begins in Melbourne, the problem being - my friend has never been to Melbourne! or anywhere South of the Equator.
Why not elsewhere, I ask him, why the Briscoe Ln. off of Little Collins must begin your book Why Australia at all? "has to be Melbourne," he replies, "you'll see soon enough." So I give up and ask for help, my brothers and sisters. Among other major subjects, the novel delves into the world of junk, that is heroin, that is our favorite drug, the safety blanket, always warm and fuzzy - until the fuzzy points turn dirt that is.
But to the fun parts! Could anyone living the lifestyle, I apologize, using the substance, educate me on some of the slang terms that ya'll use down there, maybe a certain "hang out corner," cafe. (unless that would be considered a source, in which case, you know better
) (as do I). What does it look like down there, how available, is it "popular" or "chic" or just "junk"? Do people look down on us or are they used to us? Answers to some of these questions would make my friend's life much easier - he'd hate to make a fool of himself - this time on paper.
Meanwhile, he has been using Google Earth to depict the scenery, more importantly the # of blocks, etc, in a somewhat accurate manner.
Google Earth pops up all the pharmacies and coffee shops in the area, so that's kinda cool.
My apologies for wasting your time, but it would truly be a treasure trove of knowledge for my friend.
Sincerely yours,
Focal
(PS I'm new here, don't kick to hard)

Great movie; Heath Ledger and Geoffrey Rush were both very classy actors in it and Abbie Cornish is damn cute. I'd rate it above Requiem For A Dream for a heart-wrenching heroin film too.
