Lennon’s LSD stash ‘discovered’
Posted Mon 19 Apr 2010 2:28PM BST by Johnny Famethrowa in Touching The Void

There are so many myths surrounding The Beatles, it can sometimes be difficult to work out who or what to believe. More column inches have been devoted to the Fab Four than perhaps any other rock band in history. But how much of it is true? Did Paul McCartney really die in 1966 or was he, in fact, a walrus? It's hard to tell.

But perhaps one of the most fascinating, feverishly-rumoured tales about the band concerns a stash of drugs John Lennon supposedly buried in his garden in 1967. The rock legend is said to have dug a hole for a vast quantity of LSD at Kenwood, in Weybridge, Surrey only to then forget where he'd put them, leaving the illegal bounty hidden underground forever.

It has now emerged that a group of builders working at the estate, where Lennon lived between 1964 and 1968, have made an amazing and potentially decisive discovery while digging up the lawn. They are reported to have found a leather holdall containing several large, broken glass bottles, plus one that has not smashed.

An unofficial Lennon blogger has reportedly spoken to the foreman from the construction company and obtained photos of their findings, which you can SEE HERE. "The bottle that has been discovered intact is the only remaining one, and luckily I will look after that one safely now given the provenance... a leather bag with two clasp handles seems to have been what these items were buried in. The bag has almost completely rotted away," explained the builder.

It remains to be seen if any evidence of LSD can be traced to the hoard but this seems to back speculation that has waged for many years over Lennon's lost drugs and how they were obtained. In the Beatles biography ‘The Love You Make', the authors Peter Brown and Steven Gaines recounted how the band supposedly sent a film crew to shoot the Monterey Pop festival in San Francisco in 1967. But the team were actually sent as a smokescreen.

Their real mission was to meet the infamous drug pioneer Owsley Stanley, who is credited with introducing The Beatles and the hippy generation to a new and very controversial narcotic. He gave them a consignment of liquid LSD, which eventually fell into the hands of Lennon, before being buried in the grounds of Kenwood. That's if you believe the myth, of course....

Has one of rock'n'roll's greatest mysteries been solved? Or do you think this sounds like far-fetched Fab Four nonsense? Have your say below...

This is apparently a photo of the bottom of the bottle? Does anyone else see masonic symbols? Interesting. Wasn't there an LSD connection between CIA and Timothy Leary?

Slim, i highly doubt that the unbroken vial, assuming it contains lsd, would have survived without the lsd degrading. That would be a dream to find an original vial of owsley lsd.

I dont see how anyone has any doubt that John Lennon took lsd, and i guarantee it was more than once.

I think if i made a time machine i would fill it with drugs too

not sayin lennon burried this as a time capsule

but if i were to make one i would include my favorite drugs along with other notable things from that period of time. that is if i could bring myself to part with a few drugs rather then ingest them

Shit, i think i still got a time capsule somehwere in Tampa, Fl burried. i think it has a picture of me and one other thing that i cant remember (was an elementary school project :D)

Damn, those construction workers gave up a chance to try Owsley acid!!
I would have pocketed the unbroken bottle...

Of course. Had there been more than one, you might have been tempted to pocket them and just turn in the "last" unbroken bottle.

Food for thought ;)

I dont see how anyone has any doubt that John Lennon took lsd, and i guarantee it was more than once.

What, a man who was one of the original hippies, wrote the song "Imagine" and once threatened to stay in bed with his missus until they called off a war?

No, this chap certainly wasn't the sort to take LSD...

HARDCORE fans of The Beatles legend John Lennon uncovered where in the grounds of his Surrey, southern England, home he hid his stash of LSD more than 40 years ago.

Builders digging up the lawn of his old house, Kenwood, came across the remains of a leather holdall containing several large broken glass bottles, The Sun reports.

Legend has it that Lennon buried a large quantity of the drug in his garden in 1967 when The Beatles declared they had given up drugs in favour of transcendental meditation.

But when the band returned from India, John decided he had been a bit hasty and tried to dig it up - but never found it.

Now fans are convinced these bottles contained the missing treasure - though they will never know for sure as the one bottle found intact had a cracked cork, so it was empty.

Mr Lennon had no fucking idea how to store his liquid! .... with a cork! FFS of coarse that's going to seep out after a while!

But in his defence this was way before the knowledge base that is the Interwebz!

Damn ...

I'd really rather find his hidden stash of heroin from the late 70s, but that's just me. Somewhere in Central Park…

Although a vial of his old acid from '67 *would* be a nice conversation piece. The cork stopper would just lend it the charm of antiquity.

With the knowledge that John Lennon stashed away a large quantity of LSD we can conclude that he loved the stuff just like millions of other people.
