The 2010 Winter Olympics Thread!!

some one just died on the luge. i hear the track is slicker than any of the others. just think.. its just you on a flat sled laying on your back going at speeds of 60+ knowing how to maneuver corners. wow

anyone watching the ice skating? cool shit, like 4 people have busted their asses.

<3 Canada. Glad we got Gold.

I'm really excited to watch the Mens Hockey, Russia's powerplay is amazing. Hopefully Canada will win gold for hockey.

Anyone watch the Snowboard Cross event? That was pretty lame that our Canadian guy was in first and had a huge lead, but ended up giving it up. Good job to the American though.

i can't believe i didn't even think about this thread being created!!!

i'm an american and the winter olympics and the world cup are the two times that i really TRULY feel ecstatic to be an american. i wear my pride on my sleeves come both those times!

that said. the winter olympics are something that i LIVE for! i'm such a douche for the winter olympics that i record every bit that i can to DVDs and actually create my own binder where i print out results, pictures, medal tallies, etc. and keep it organized so that years down the road i can look at it and relive all the glory that i'm seeing unfold on my television screen. i'm the only person at my job who can not only tell you how many medals each country has, but what events they've won them in, and who won them. it's either pathetic or awesome, but to me it's wonderful!

with me being as big of a hockey fan as i am, naturally that's my FAVORITE. i enjoy watching these guys play for their countries (women's hockey is alright, but doesn't do much for me) because a gold medal in hockey is the only thing that trumps winning the stanley cup, IMO. any of the sliding events (ie, luge, skeleton, bobsled) are SO fun to watch. curling is something that i can't explain how much enjoyment i get out of it, but other's who get into know exactly how great it is. men's short track speed skating would probably be next followed by couples figure skating. somewhere in the mix of what i've already mentioned would be the skiing events, alpine first, then ski jumping, then freestyle (moguls). the only thing that i really am so-so about is snowboarding. i enjoy watching it, but it just doesn't do it for me like most of the other events for some reason.

i know i didn't name all the events and to be quite honest, i didn't necessarily put them in order of my favorite to least, but something similar. men's hockey is easily my favorite, however. :)

oh and may i add... russia's entire team is fucking ridiculous (not that canada isn't), but yes, their powerplay is absolutely un-fucking-believable. it's like having two all star forward lines and defensive pairings just hammering for two solid minutes.

HOCKEY HOCKEY HOCKEY

I want Canada to win the Gold, but the States and Russia have ridiculous teams. I'm actually scared Russia will take it.

Russia's Olympic hockey roster

Goalies
Ilya Bryzgalov (Phoenix), Evgeni Nabokov (San Jose), Semyon Varlamov (Washington)

Defence
Sergei Gonchar (Pittsburgh), Denis Grebeshkov (Edmonton), Dmitri Kalinin (Salavat Ufa), Konstantin Korneyev (CSKA Moscow), Andrei Markov (Montreal), Ilya Nikulin (Ak Bars Kazan), Fedor Tyutin (Columbus), Anton Vonchenkov (Ottawa)

Forwards
Maxim Afinogenov (Atlanta), Pavel Datsyuk (Detroit), Sergei Fedorov (Metallurg Magnitogorsk), Ilya Kovalchuk (Atlanta), Viktor Kozlov (Salavat Ufa), Evgeni Malkin (Pittsburgh), Alexei Morozov (Ak Bars Kazan), Alexander Ovechkin (Washington), Alexander Radulov (Salavat Ufa), Alexander Semin (Washington), Danis Zaripov (Ak Bars Kazan), Sergei Zinoviev (Salavat Ufa)

That is a scary fucking team.

^ me too. obviously i want the US to do well, but my eyes welled up a bit watching biladeau on the podium while the crowd eagerly sang along to "OOOOOOOOH CANADA!" that kid was on the top of the world. it was a goosebump moment. :D

im not even kidding when i say that i love watching curling.
HOLD! HOLD! HOLD!
fuck yeah.

curling is awesome! I can't believe the USA women's team blew their lead against Japan and lost. they throw some horrible shots there at the end.

^^ did you see the main lady for the WomensCurling Germen Team? She was soo manly looking.

and then there was another deutchlander who was quite attractive, but she didnt look like a stereotypically German. Kinda Latina looking, but nice ;)

the latina looking german lady you're talking about is actually canadian, but moved to germany and was granted german citizenship allowing her to curl for germany.

as far as the women go in curling... eva lund (sweden), natalie joraanstad (usa), and eve muirhead (great britain) are the HOTTEST! if i wasn't already in love with curling, i'd fall in love with it based on them alone. eva lund is who originally made me start watching curling, then i began loving it for the sport itself. :)

the US men right now were shooting themselves in the foot against the swiss, but they've mounted a come back. they're all tied up in the 7th end now.

oh and in case anyone is wondering... the two hottest women will be facing each other later tonight. eva lund and eve muirhead!!! i'm fucking stoked!

Wow the Mens USA vs Swiss is a close curling match. They just busted out this giant caliper thing...never seen that before.

that was the third time they've had to use it this match. swiss started out dominating the first 4 ends, then the US just reversed it on them. schuster had a chance to win it with almost the exact same shot as he was faced with last night against norway (where he lost it), but left it short. now we're in extra ends.

and smith REALLY stepped it up. he was fucking HORRIBLE to start this match, now he's on fire!
