How did you get into Electronic music?

MDMAhead, please direct me to a youtube vid, where it shows deadmau5 playing techno at a gig (or deadmau5 "techno" tracks being played at a techno gig).

I don't know for sure what genre those artists are in, but it's certainly not electro!

It was Wikipedia what dunnit, not me!

I listen to house, trance, breaks, techno, ambient, et al.
Went thru a jungle/D&B period which was wicked.

If they don't know this world then they say techno as the distilled term.

The word that makes me sick is electronica.
The commercialized Sam Goody term to organize it on a shelf.

also wanted to recommend these albums :)

Beyond the Infinite - Juno Reactor

Dancing Galaxy - Astral Projection

Orbital 2 - Orbital

Wide(r) Angle - Hybrid

as the record suggests..

Lush 3-2

Lush 3-2 is probably my alltime favourite Orbital track! It's trance in it's purest form - waves of melodies created using the most incredible ethereal, other-worldly vocal. The synths and the drums are also absolutely amazing. I can just close my eyes whilst listening to it and it hypnotises me. Absolutely beautiful :)

when i was ~11 years old a german music tv station did
advertisment for those hardcore/gabba compilations
like thunderdome. i bought a few cds and kinda liked it.

a few years later my older sister introduced me to house
music and by then electronic music in general was my fav.
music genre. it still is.

over the years i got into the various subgenres from hardcore/gabba
to house, techno, jungle/d&b/breakcore, idm, dubstep.
atm im into dub-techno, deep house. :)

Really takes you away yeah? It was the first album by them I picked up.
It's a desert island cd. The flow from track to track is amazing. The crescendos and layers are knee wobbling. Impact is another highlight and closing with Halcyon is just unreal
Can't live without it. Essential..

I was lent a Squarepusher CD by a friend and was instantly hooked. From then on I just explored and found genres I loved, some that I don't so much anymore, but they still hold a place in my musical heart :)

What electronic song do you remember hearing first?

What is one of the first electronic music tracks you heard?

In particular, what song got you into techno music?

One of the earliest I can remember is from the trainspotting soundtrack, when i first watched that movie in 97 or 98 (rented on video)

Underworld - Dark and Long

I really can't say which track first sparked my interest in electronic music, if you also take into account early 90s 'dance music'... I used to like stuff like N-Trance - Set You Free, etc (the days when I used to listen to the radio a LOT which I hardly ever do now)... but when I finished school, a couple of years later I went to a friend's birthday and she had stuff like the following playing:

Marmion - Schoenberg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=to9Q1YWY2wg
Drax II Ltd - Amphetamine http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DyGedwIjUwA
Legend B - Lost in Love http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27AXunGRo5E
Microbots - I Didn't Know What to Expect (couldn't find a decent link for this one sorry)
...she also was playing a whole heap of Carl Cox :)

That made me really curious to discover more of the underground sounds :)

Then around 1999 one of my friends at TAFE (college) had just come back from Amsterdam and had a heap of Euro trance... I asked for a listen and got into: Tiesto, Corsten, AVB, PVD, etc... and from that, I started to expand and listen to different genres...

I was REALLY curious to hear what Goa/Psy sounded like and I can remember one of the very first tunes I heard and LOVED was Hallucinogen - LSD...

some great old school links you posted! thanks. I've downloaded them all now. :P

i always liked that techno pop of the mid 90's... but became a true fan of electronic music after i heard Robert Miles-Children the first time i rolled in 2000

I know there's a thread somewhere about how everyone go into electronic music, but im on my way out so i dont have time to search for it. Brownie points to whoever digs that up so I can merge the two threads! :D

I think the first electronic song that I ever liked was "Always" by Erasure. I think it was the early 90s and I was still living in India. I was maybe 4-5 years old. I remember just being in love with this song. <3 It had a beautiful video clip as well. I would always get my parents to watch the video clip till the end if it was on tv. To this day this song has a very special place in my heart. :)

Although I would say my real involvement with EDM started in the late 90s with the advent of Big Beat. Chemical Brothers, The Prodigy and Fat Boy Slim just rocked my world. Here is just a selection:

Fatboy Slim - Right Here, Right Now
The Chemical Brothers - Hey Boy Hey Girl
The Prodigy - Smack My Bitch Up
Fatboy Slim - The Rockerfeller Skank

Other 90s electronica:

Armand Van Helden - You Don't Know Me
Mousse T. - Horny '98
Puretones - Addicted to Bass
Groove Armada - I See You Baby (American fascist version - shaking that THANG? WTF?)

And my favorite:

The Prodigy - No Good

This song just blew my mind. It still does! :D

Some time around 2004 I discovered Infected Mushroom, then Hallucinogen, Shpongle and pystrance, I've been hooked to EDM ever since
