5-htp therapeutic

Yeah its not so much for me its for my gf and if i mention that stuff shes just look at me like im a retard haha she'll have no clue what im going on about n she's pretty closed minded on that side. But ill give it a shot thanks heaps mate

I find the best time to dose as a sleeping aid (without feeling too lethargic in the morning personally is around 2 hours before heading to bed.
If you have low serotonin levels taken in the morning may still help give you a more relaxed sleep (although unlikely). However if you must take it in the morning just ensure you eat something like turkey or anything that is a rich source of Trytophan (of which 5-HTP is an intermediate) at night around 1-2 hours before sleep.

I also find this substance is best used with a 2-3 weeks on and 1 off schedule or even alternating days. My theory is that it is important to let your body naturally create serotonin and also to give your liver and heart (which can be damaged from excess serotonin) a rest from possible elevated serotonin levels which are caused by the early conversion of 5-HTP before it reaches your brain.

That schedule is something I simply think helps me get more from the 5-HTP ... There is no scientific proof to say a break is needed or actually works in reducing these problems

Thanks trippa, very useful information.

I have sourced this as a supplement from an Australian site, so I was under the impression that it was legal. I am a little confused about its legal status in Australia now!

^it's legal in qld, but you have to acquire it through an appointment with a naturopath. sorry i can't help you out with the legality in other states, it shouldn't be hard to google and find out

I wonder about this naturopath appointment requirement.
This seems like it must be imposed by the naturopath / seller of 5-htp, and I'm not sure they could enforce it legally.
If the product is available legally in the state then you should be able to purchase it without having to pay for a consultation with a non-medical unregulated health practitioner.

^^
Nah, it's QLD law man. It's not legally available for sale in the state except if you have an appointment with a naturopath.

I wanted to purchase some years ago in a mall health food shop in QLD and the naturopath just talked to me for a few minutes, no fee or anything. Then I found out it wasn't pure 5-HTP so didn't bother so just imported it. It is way cheaper to import.

i'll be ordering online in the future. naturopath prices are ridiculous.

sure the place smells nice, but you leave with a dirty taste in your mouth after the consultation fee plus the costs of whatever you buy

my experience with 5htp was great as i too never have benefited form anti deps and i have been on many diff ones but with the htp i had gotten a lot more benefit from them i actually learned about them from reading a book cant remember name but anyway the author said that when you forget to take the 5thp that is when your brain has enough seretonin back into it if that makes any sense, the htp floods the seretonin deprived depressed brain and when you forget its your bodys way of saying hey ive had enough thank you, this was my experience too i would take it religously then one day i didnt and a few days later i thought i havent had my htp coolies i feel ok , yeah its great stuff buy it over the net much much cheaper :)

Customs won't stop you importing bottles worth of the stuff... just look it up

i found it worked wonders for depression at one point in my life, and the sleep it gave me was amazing

Iv bought 5-HTP OTC in QLD without consulting anyone on several occasions. I ask for a bottle, they pick up up and sqy "here you go"

I bet you pay a pretty penny for it though ..(and half the time it is mixed with other things) if you want 5-HTP order it from the states ... you'll get more in each cap and 3 times as many for half the price ....

I've just ordered some 5HTP as it's been a long time since I've had any... I'm planning to take maybe 1-2 every second day, or even 1 every 3 days... and then take a break after I've finished the bottle (60 caps) for a couple of months.

I have a Berocca every morning... and I've just read on the following link that mixing 5HTP and Vitamin B6 can make taking the 5HTP pointless (apparently 5-HTP will get converted to serotonin in the liver instead, and thus never make it to the brain) and can even be dangerous?

http://www.bluelight.ru/vb/showthread.php?t=287832

I would think that this would only apply if I were taking large amounts of both 5HTP and B6 and for prolonged periods?

Would you think it's safer/smarter to NOT have a Berocca on the days I have 5HTP... or is 1 Berocca and 1 capsule of 5HTP not really going to cause too much of a problem?

i've lost my bottle (in a stupid fucking nodding haze on morphine) so until i find it, along with my wallet and everything else, i've wasted 2 months supply for a pretty petty.

75 - 100mg a day is regarded as a safe dosage not requiring a prescription. It shouldn't be taken all the time as people have complained it stops working after a while, but this is just the body needing a regular break. A two week break every two to three months is good.

I've been thinking about 5-htp for a while, I'd be very interested to know if it's legal in Victoria, and if so where one would get it from. Thanks a bunch guys :)

5HTP.... great for sleep. And dreams. Especially when combined with melatonin. I get that weird lucid dream state where it feels like hours has passed in my wacky dream and I snap out of it and Ive been in bed for 30 mins. Crazy. Its like your conscious imagination and fantasies merge seamlessly into the dream state. Its exactly like that actually.

I haven't really tried enough of it to tell, but from what I can gather I'd agree. If it did anything. At one point there was a mild buzz, kinda like a caffeine body high. Its hard for me to say because its all subtle, and my mental state is soooo easily unsettled. Various factors need to be taken into play, sometimes I don't even know what sets off a horrible sense of claustrophobia and apathy coated with menace...
Fuck I don't even enjoy xanax (feels flat like a 50s suburban home.... and I got mild visual disturbance from it which apparently is not supposed to happen).
