Best state to find mushrooms?

I have heard tales on FL mushrooms from close friends. Have heard of them in upstate NY too.

From British Columbia down to around Santa Cruz from Octoberish sometimes into January or February. I used to pick pounds upon pounds in Seattle. I'm talking in the city limits.

When I was younger living in Florida, we would drive thirty minutes from the city to some really great cow fields. It wasn't uncommon to come back with several black trash bags full of shrooms. They were everywhere in Central Florida when it rained.

I'd love to try growing these on my own. Does anybody have any experience growing these?

The classic psylisiban mushrooms grow in central Texas, east of where the hill country starts, and just east of Austin. Best times are the rainy months of May and June. It's got to be wet, humid, without alot of sunlight burning off the clouds. That raises temps above 80°, and dries up the ones that have come up and kills the fungal growth below.
A bunch of my college friends and I rented a cheap house in West Austin in 76, during summer break. It had been a wet, humid month of May, so we went to the public library, got a book on mushrooms, and early the next morning drove out to Bastrop county to sneak onto cattle land searching for gold in cow-shit. We found quite a few that matched the library book's description: light brown on top, a crown on the stem, and a distinctive blueish color liquid flowing from the insides of the mushroom, or where it had been bruised.
We picked enough that morning to fill 2 or 3 paper grocery bags, brought them back to Clarksville (Austin) kitchen and wondered, "Are these truly the ones?" We each took a little "test" bite, then disappeared into the bedrooms for a nap. Twenty minutes later, we're all back in the kitchen, experiencing the first effects, and shouting, "These are the ones!" Thus began a wild summer exploring Austin, tripping daily, guys and gals usually walking around the house nude, playing guitar, and having intense incestuous relationships among our college friend who made the trip. It was the 70's, after all.
These days, I want to round up all the little alt types I work with, put them in a van, drive them to Austin, and make them eat mushrooms for a week or two.

yea I have picked mushies around central tex and I have gotten bags of em , sometimes really potent. Would get cubensis mainly but sometimes find copleandia cyananescens (dont know how to spell)

From what I've heard Florida tops the list with Oregon/ Pacific Northwest close second. Hawaii is supposed to grow a particularly potent species of shroms.

Anyway, in the late 80s, you use to be able to find shrooms in Golden Gate Park. The soil the used in spots was manure based I guess and some hippie probably transplanted spores years before. Don't know if that is still the case.

I started eating mushrooms at a fairly young age because I lived in a rural area of Tampa with plent of cows producing plenty of shit producing plenty of mushrooms practically year-round. I've tried to go picking in N. TX. but wasn't sure what some good spots were.. hit a few fields up with no luck (and one run-in with a pissy land owner).

Why do ppl get so pissed about you picking mushrooms on their property? Fuck it.

Eating wild mushrooms is not for the novice, unless you have a death wish. If you are going to do it anyway, I would read a lot and take a small piece of a shroom and eat it. If there are not bad side effects, try ingesting more. But I can't stress this enough, this is extremely dangerous. You might as well buy research chemicals and dose by cutting up lines you think might be 20mg. Just grow your own mushrooms, it's easier than growing weed and takes much, much less space.

Ruskin / Sun City Florida--nothing but Mexicans, rednecks, cows and shrooms. Fond fond memories

How can you invlude Sun City and not say old people? There's more golf carts on the road at any one time than their are rednecks or Mexicans (in Sun City not Ruskin... plenty of rednecks and mexicans in ruskin)

Alabama go to any cow pasture in the spring after a rainy night 60-85 degrees. If you don't have any luck go to Montgomery locate Maxwell air force base. There is a golf course there with pastures nearby. There you will find more cubes than you can transport.

Central Florida!! here just south of tampa we have like 20 cow fields within 10 miles, shrooms EVERYWHERE

Cyanesins grow all over the place in the pnw. Just gotta wait till october. But they are everywhere. Also they only grow in the PNW. good old blue ringers!

north texas here aswell

i have definatly pissed off a few land owners in my time

Texas isnt the best place to just go onto someone elses land, they have the legal right to kill you if you're on their property....provided they fired one warning shot first, but Tx just isnt the smartest place to trespass
