yeah i understand what you mean, the long half-life can be a bit of a hinderance sometimes. minimal dosing is a way to minimise that side effect.

besides the difference of half-life what is teh defining characteristics of differnce between valium and xanax?
like what makes one better or more desirable then the other. I have been on Valium long term for anxiety that causes me a great deal of insomnia. But i find that i am often groggy the next day after taking Valium for sleep. Does the physical/psychological effect of xanax differ? does it feel better/more enjoyable than Valium?

I think I might do a little bit of experimenting with the Valium I have left im my medicine cabinet from a neck injury a few years ago.
I've had a lot of anxiety in the last few years which has subsided up until recently.
I think next time I'm having a bad day I might have 2mg. Does that seem like a good dose to treat light anxiety with no benzo tolerance?
I really think some sort of Benzo would help me a lot at times, but the general feeling online is that benzo's aren't really worth all the negativees in the end.
Is there really any other effective alternatives to benzo's apart from anti-depressants? (which I have no interest in).

I have a script for 5mg Valium to be taken one half tablet to two tablets every 8 hours as needed. I often take a half (2.5mg) while at work because i have a demanding job (which is probably in part directly causing much of my anxiety) and can not perform the necessary tasks while on much more Valium. I have a fairly moderate tolerance to valium and find that 2.5 doesnt alter my head space or thought process much but does alleviate my anxiety.
Something worth mentioning. I find that if i do not get at least 6-8 hours of sleep after taking Valium i wake up very groggy.

How long do you expect an equivalent dose of xanax to last? i find 20-30mg valium is enough to last me the night (10pm - 2/3/4 whenever I fade out)

i think it might come on faster but i doubt it would make it more intense. Xanax is already an immediate release pill. Crushing it up is not gonna deliver any more of it to your system at a time then just eating it whole.

yeah that sounds about right for those doses, id usually get 5-6 hour hours from my benzos and longer with higher doses. valiums half-life can be between 20-50hours, nordiazepam (the main active metabolite of diazepam) can be up to 200hours.
a xanax high will last between 3-4hours. its half-life is somewhere between 9-24 hours.

it really depends what kind of circles youre in. ive personally never met that many other people who have been real benzo-heads (besides on bluelight, im talking IRL) but those i have met were rather heavy users - their main DOC was either opiates or meth. majority of the time they used benzos to either come down from the meth or just for synergism along with their opiate highs from time to time.

That is true. I've only met a couple of people who would claim it as their DOC.

Those circles are people that I work with in a homelessness program. I guess benzos are cheaper than what else is out there on the street.

they were my DOC for a while there. at one stage i was getting a box of valium from my doctor every week as well as using more on top of that (temazepam and xanax). instead of mixing benzos with my opiates it was opiates sprinkled on top of a valium dose for me. i didnt realise at the time when i was getting clean but after some reflection on it, PAWS hung around for a good couple months after getting fully clean. my tolerance is significantly lower now, as in i can take 20mg of valium and be pretty happy instead of using 4-5times that much.
they are considerably cheaper than other street drugs. it would be a lot cheaper to maintain a benzo habit in comparison to a meth or coke habit - from my experience in prices anyway. a box of valium from the pharmacy is only a handful of small change (even without PBS) but of course theres always those people who are out to rip people off.

^ Stilnox is zolpidem tartrate and is not a benzodiazepine.
In regards to valiums long half life, I work from home and don't do much so I enjoy it but it is a pain if you have to get shit done the next day and take a reasonable dose. One of the major benefits I find of valiums long half life is when I consume alcohol the day after valium it takes less to get me where I want to be.

Zolpidem is a nonbenzodiazapine.

Personally prefer Clonazapam but Nitraz. for sleep and come downs.

I told him taht my mother gave me a few of her Valiums until i could get into the doctor's and they worked great. I told him i was not interested in taking a daily medication for generalized anxiety as i just needed something occasionally that i could take when i had an episode.
He asked me how many i wanted. I didn't wanna seem like i was drug seeking so i started out with 30mg tablets. A month or two later i went back and asked for more. He wrote me for 90 more. I only use them when i need too and can usually get by with taking only 2.5mg for anxiety. Now that i need them for anxiety i don't really take them recreationally anymore. I would hate to have a genuine panic attack and they not work well for me.
