thanks heaps for that. been struggling to get a definite answer for ages. i cant wait, will be my first season hunting so hopefully i get lucky.

So i live in suburban SEQ. Not far from the city. Ive never gone picking before, but ive read up on it and know the appropriate sites and such.

I dont have access to cow paddocks (at least i dont think i do :S) and im not aware of many parks near me. What do i do?

Ive read the thread (and last years, although i didnt get around to looking last year), and id just like to clarify what ive taken in :P.

Woodchip gardens in parks are good? Or are they pretty unreliable?
I have bushland nearby. Does that count as a forest that will produce cubes after good conditions?
And i know its a iffy question, but im going to ask anyway.

How common are cubes after the right conditions?

Thank you!

Get in your car and drive! The paddocks sure as hell aren't going to come to you. :D

Given the right conditions, cubes can be extremely common - and you are certainly in the heart of cube country imho.

I meant i dont know where any cow paddocks are! haha. I only got my license a couple of weeks ago ;).

But thats helpful to know. I was reluctant to look because i thought theyd be super hard to find or something.

I implore you to be very careful if you've not picked before. There are a variety of species that can look similar but are potentially quite dangerous to consume. It's advisable to pick and learn from someone who has studied mycology, or at the very least, someone who is an experienced hunter.

Although you can have your pick ID'd on sites like The Shroomery, this is far from a fail safe method and can lead to a disastrous outcome. Ensure you educate yourself past simple cap identification because this will exponentially increase your chances of a negative and potentially dangerous experience.

Not a chance mate.

way too late

Dont be so sure man. This big boy was found outer east of Melbourne.

It does happen as wingnut has shown

The cold snap before this heat lead to a few gold tops being found extremely late in the season a couple of weeks back

Doesn't impress me any where near the 1000 fold numbers you will get in the same area during may/june/july

I found an Amanita Muscaria over christmas last year on a hot as fuck day. Blew me away

Either way you would have to love walking to get enough for a decent trip out of normal season

Cheers for the pics wingnut

Psilo

East coast mate. Not to far from Phillip island. Didn't really look too hard just casually checked out a few known spots that are loaded when seasons in full swing.
Must admit though I haven't seen them about this late in the 5-6 years Ive been hunting.

Phillip island is pretty central

Anyway...

It was perfect conditions for them with the rain and arctic winds for those few days

We normally only get a day or 2 of it which isn't long enough for the fruiting bodies to sprout up but every now and then you get lucky with a cold snap of a few days

I got a few around Ballarat in the mountains, heard of other finds in East Burbs and also west vic.

As much fun as finds this late are, it means shitty cold weather

I'll take summer over that any day ;)

I guess it is just east but nothing like greater gippsland

I see that entire bay area as central vic

Phillip island is more south than east of melb

Cold weather can be ok for the subs

I like wearing my boardies and lapping up the sun though

Bit more comfy than jackets and beanies

where abouts man if you don't mind me asking? I'm in that area too :)

Oh i took it to mean that he lived near phillip island so i was asking that not where he was hunting... sorry i can see how it came across like that

Sunrise, mountains, nice landscapes, friends, awesome views and shrooms (cubes or pan cyans) mmm nothing beats it :P

Bali in a week and a bit, were apparently staying somewhere close to a whole lot of mushies, for a few days. Locals will go pick a whole heap of em for you for next to nothing, and the local cops dont even care. Hells yeah, shrooming on a tropical beach!
