IN, Bloomington - 11.05.09 Thursday - Bassnectar at Bluebird Nightclub *REVIEW*

matt...you're cool as a fan, brother :) i'm glad you're in the loop and making things happen. indy needs more open-minded promoters like you.

Thanks, but I haven't really done anything yet. :\

agents ACTIVELY try to get relevant talent into Bloomington. they look for venues and promoters to host shows in Bloomington w/out anyone making an offer to them. they do not bother doing that w/ Indy for relevant dance music acts. Yes, you as a promoter could get talent here by reaching out to an agent and making an offer. However, w/out your initiative, that agent wouldnt have even bothered trying to get the artist booked in Indy as they would have w/ Bloomington.

i take personal offense to this notion of not assuming the risk. please go review every event i've thrown at http://iqentertainment.net ... i've assumed enough risk.

the WE does exist. it's just not you or the rest of the 90s rave music promoters. i was at a rave w/ 300 ppl on saturday in Indy (and the kids were dancing, so you know it wasn't any of Therapy's former attendees). the djs rocked mashups, hip-hop, bmore, and other currently relevant music.

No one is saying you haven't done anything or assumed risk. That's not what I meant at all. It's assuming the risk of bringing these acts who you say skip over Indy. No one assumed the risk of bringing them.

Knocking the other promoters/attendees and "relevant" music tastes proves my "WE" point.

Perhaps you and I just have a different understanding of WE. Not that there aren't several WE's to be had. Or WE's that you or I, or in some cases both, want no part of.

Relevance is relative to the WE.

i was going to argue...but there is no point. i've been partaking in this perpetual argument with you for far too long and i've never proved you wrong once. you always did it for me...funny thing is was never about right or wrong in the first place.

you say tomato.
i say tomatoe...

the end.

..........y...e..a...h

raves are dead. long live dance music!

#1. You can just take the word "dance" right out of there.
You can instead word it:

Electronic Nod your head (cause your scared to dance)while you drink your $5 beer Music

#2. Where exactaly is this " Scene" occurring ? Some bars booked big names ?
big deal when there is no culture - Bluebird might as well play it off an mp3 player. Thats not Dance music thats make us money music.

also........I love Dubstep, mashup -electro - this stuff is current and i like it and you know what ? i dance to it & to that extent guess what - this is RAVE MUSIC and hopefully the "Reinvention" will occur after someone looks around and says: Why is it again a FUCKING BAR is the only place i can enjoy this music ?
Dont get me wrong: I want there to be a scene in Btown.
Bassnectar coming to town is Awesome.
Bars with electonic music = a good OPTION. better than country 4sure.
Hopefully a new collection of people who like EDM will come about and help shows occur............Some people though want so badly to have EDM minus the RAVE part. This is what makes me passionate & this i find disturbing.
I can only guess that the root of this phenomenon is: FEAR OF DANCING
Maybe these newer genre are so popular cause tempo wise you can just "groove" which isnt dancing. Not that people shouldnt groove but its just a sad path for the culture to go down and more and more it is evolving into what it had suddenly reached so far beyond in the beginning. yeah,
(in Indiana) RAVES are Dead. & I Really DONT think its something to be happy about or tout for that matter. you were right about 1thing though-
I am OLDSCHOOL.

ok.....so........^
then that gap between what was and this new "we" needs to be bridged-
-
shit - I'm ready to rave but also fall in that 90's rave promoter cat........

&.......good to hear people are dancing - THAT IS MOST IMPORTANT.

[note: Beer in had or a drink or esspecially a PURSE disqualifies DANCING status. .>this does not include backpacks]

hip hop....not so much - - - -have a hip hop show.

lol, you just dismissed one of the cats holding down dance music in btown and indy, but you'd categorize his taste in dance music as pedestrian too, which is funny bc jackson's linked up w/ scion and iheartcomix.

I wasn't dismissing anything other than him waltzing into bluelight with zero posts and being on your jock. plz get that through your thick skull...

so your original gripe was that the kids going to these shows was the lack of awareness amongst the listeners. now you are complaining about the venues. which is it that you would like to blame your lack of involvement?

what about the all-ages dance parties being thrown at BPP or the Dope Couture? those aren't bars, and people are throwing dance partiers in those locations fairly regularly. or what about the annual all ages dance party that Action Jackson throws for Little 5 at the Buskirk? or Phenom's Sneak Attack parties at Q Billiards, Le Petite Cafe, and Cinemat?

so you can't drink beer at the same time as dancing? or hold a purse? really? why because in order to dance you have to play with your hands or jump around like a moron? but it's possible to dance on drugs, right? ... makes complete sense ... *rolls eyes*

i shouldn't be shocked by anything you say as i believe you are one of Jimmi Journey's former lil minions still waiting for the return of times when you thought you might be cool.

you are not "old school" ... you are just OLD!

So did anyone wind up going to this show? How was it?

yeah, this was ravey as shit. Tons of fun, the bluebird was the perfect spot for this and Bassnectar played at extended set (over 2 hours) to a packed house. Me and my friends were covered in rave sweat by 2am.

I definitely had a good time. The bass wasn't as intense as I was hoping for (it WAS good, but I was expecting to be in a bass vacuum), but I like that spot! Never been to the Bluebird before and definitely would go again. Sanoj Thing was good and Bassnectar really brought it! I love how he's able to infuse today's pop and hip-hop into his sets. Reminds me of Girl Talk, but with more underground sounds in the mix.

Hell yes.

Shit was dope like poop on a stick.

Had a blast. Movin' and sweatin.

Got plenty of fliers handed out as well :)

One great option would be to work the two scenes together a bit.

Go show support, take demo's fliers, etcetera

Bring some of their dj's up. Get some of ours down there.

The heads are down in B-town!

movin' crew

can't dance with a drink in your hand?!
what?!

Can you not walk and chew gum at the same time either?

I don't get that....

Lol at not dancing with a purse or drink!!! Anyways, I can't start a new topic for some reason but here's a party you guys can go to if you're afraid of entering a bar...

Post it in the 1st sticky at the top of this forum and the mods will post it for you.

I guess they have it set that way to avoid multiple posts, spam, or just general crap.
