With the right precautions they can be enjoyed fairly safely
I myself am not a fan. I do know the odd "AMMY HEAD" who indulge yearly
LEGAL STATUS
Psychoactive Amanitas are not listed in most drug laws because of their low incidence of recreational use. Psychoactive Amanitas and their active chemicals are not listed in the United Nations Drug Control treaties.
Australia #
A. muscaria somewhat controlled for importation (requires listing on forms if an active ingredient in an imported supplement or herbal preparation - 1990 no 394 "therapeutic goods regulations"). Muscimol may be a controlled substance in Australia, or it may have only been in a proposed bill, we can't tell.
Belgium #

Louisiana #
Effective Aug 8, 2005 (signed into law Jun 28, 2005) Louisiana Act No 159 makes 40 plants illegal, including Amanita muscaria, when intended for human consumption. The law specifically excludes the "possession, planting, cultivation, growing, or harvesting" of these plants if used "strictly for aesthetic, landscaping, or decorative purposes." Tennessee #
Tennessee did not pass the proposed bill that would have banned dozens of plants as "hallucinogenic" when intended for human consumption. Instead, they banned only Salvia divinorum. See Comments on New State Laws Controlling the Consumption of Hallucinogenic Plants.
