Mephedrone Megathread: Five heart attacks later...

Wise words Shambles. I think its because its great for the first few times, then after that its just bad side effects and little of the original loved up feeling.. And the side effects are defo fact, plenty of people on heres exericances back it up.

...but conversely, plenty of peoples' experience contradict those 'facts'.

I'm not trying to deny or undermine the warnings signs of meph (ab)use - just trying to look at it from both sides of the fence. :)

My mate had a very odd reaction to meph yesterday, he tried snorting 80mg for the first time ever, and was in pain for a minute or two, then he started to get really drowsy nearly to the point where we couldn't keep him awake. After ten minutes or so of us trying to get him to sit up on the sofa, open his eyes and wake up properly I started to worry. So I suddenly thought, water. Got him a pint and he gulped down about half of it and within seconds he was wide awake again and fully back to normal.

So yeah, lesson is make sure you are properly hydrated on meph or it really could end in disaster. Seems to really dehydrate you.

And adding alcohol and beers to the mix like many people do will not help this at all.

thats what I keep thinking, the poll at DF shows out of 300 mephedrone users that have voted that the average consumption between them is about seven grams a month. With about 30 people saying they've done more than 20g in the last 30 days. If they were all dropping dead I think we would know.

Still I'd definately advise caution and moderation until its scientifically studied a bit more.

.. studied at all infact.

Yeah, to add my opinion...there is definitely something about the 'feel' of this drug that advises caution with usage. BUT...IME, the use outlined by EADD'ers (with regard to toxicity/binge effects) are far more problematic than other users I encounter. And I am pretty sure that's because BL has more than the average problematic drug user.

I am not saying this drug is safe (no drug is) or anything like safe. It may well be a recipe for disaster when combined with the binge culture. And it may well give some of us a fucking (literally) great time one weekend a month.

Keeping oneself hydrated is just common sense when using virtually any stimulant or psychedelic IMO - especially since meph appears to have vasoconstrictive properties.

Plus, everyone should be aware that alcohol (and caffeine to some extent) is a diuretic.

Sorry but, of course it is a fact, fair play if a few people were just saying it was bad. Maybe 1 in 10 people who used to take pills will say, " I wouldn't touch pills again, they fucked me up." With meph about a third - half of the people I know who have taken it say that. Look on here how many bad side effects have been mentioned and by how many people? Look at how many people describe the same side effects.. :\

Mephedrone plus no sleep totally kills my imune system. I had just started to recover from flu then stupidly had around 600mg mephedrone on friday night, today I can barely crawl out of bed :(

Yeah I got a stinker of a cold the week after last taking some even though I had sleep.

I am sure these posters are telling the truth (and I don't doubt they are wrong either!), but from a scientific perspective anecdotal evidence does not equal fact. Sorry if I came over a bit dismissive. :)

...but look at the flip side. There could be a massive proportion that use meph and haven't had these side effects that have been mentioned. ;)

this stuff fucks up my immune system also, i caught the flu a few days later after doing 500mg

So it's an immunosuppressant now? Might be useful as a replacement for the cytotoxic and carcinogenic Azathioprine...

Y'see, this is my point about people posting bad side effects as 'fact'... hehe! :p

^ Pfffffft, maybe its you just like the stuff and can't admitt it seems to be fucking alot of people up. Even people who know virtually nothing about drugs say they tried it once and it felt "bad." I know one guy who is absolutely mental with coke, speed, pills... He tried meph once, 250mg in a cap, said it was a decent dunt but then felt "dodgy" for 3days. And he is used to taking pips pills.

If you read even just the last page on here theres plenty people saying it. Read f&b's post in advanved discussion.. My mate posted on here about going to the doc after having a paranoia attack on meph, read the post a few pages back. It effected the CKMB levels in his blood, that to me is proof it is certainly cardiotoxic.

ok ill rephrase that, it might fuck my immune system. when i do meph i get evil come downs, and sometimes end up getting colds or the flu. which i normally never get.

Sorry mate - was just being a bit facetious...

Just my inert and very uneducated opinion, but I cant see how Mephedrone could supress your immune system directly. Definately indirectly, by keeping you awake so long that your immune system doesnt have the rest time it needs to kick in and deal with any nasties that may be habouring.

haha! You got me! ;)

Sorry if I have not explained myself very well. Am at work so my posting is being done quickly so my wording my not be very good.

I totally understand what you mean - and I am not saying it isn't cardiotoxic. Just trying to point out that just because people say "I've had this pain in X area of my body - so that means that it does Y" doesn't mean it's factual. As I have mentioned before, the pains around the chest (sernum?) are possibly due to heartburn / acid reflux and not pain from the heart...

...and suppressing your appetite, so that you don't eat properly.

...and dehydrating you too maybe? :)

Sorry but you are just trying to look on the bright side IMO. Read the post from "Squid0" a few pages back. He went to the doctors the next day, his blood tested for high levels of CKMB, which inicates damage to the heart.

People have complained of chest pains weeks after taking mephedrone, you don't get heartburn 2weeks later.. :\

Its extremely rare indeed for otherwise healthy young people to get any of this degree strange side effects from even the most reckless of binges with coke or pills, yet we have far too many reports on here from a lot of users, educated and not, of seriously worrying shit after fairly moderate meph binges. Plus all those with chemistry knowledge seem alarmed just by the chemical structure.

I've been trying to warn a mate of mine whose been on it a lot lately to go easy, but I know that won't be the case with him given past history with other drugs :(
