It is in a different class to things like Brazil and such, but it seemed a more "serious effort" (for want of a better term) from him compared to those. I enjoyed it muchly :)

I would agree. Would suggest it falls into his "near misses" category along with just about all his other films though. Kinda what he does in my book - spectacular films of near genius at genuine levels of genius and geniusness that fall slightly short of great geniusity whilst remaining genius. If ya know what I mean :)

It's good but it's not Time Bandits ;)

^Well shambulls its my personal favourite Gilliam film and thats that.
Any film where the expected main character - Jeff Bridges - spends most of the film dead is pretty cool. I also love The Fisher King.
Seen Fear and Loathing the most but not for years since some cunt took my vhs on permanent vacation, anyone got the Criterion edition? And if so do you want to fax me a copy.....or even post one;)
Can't stand Time Bandits......never managed to get through it all the way.
12 Monkeys is really good....but I don't like the way that by the end you know that he really is a time traveller rather than not knowing whether he is schizophrenic or not.
Brazil was on TV this week and I missed it, always found that fucking woman really annoying, she was supposed to be played by Ellen Barkin who would have been approx 800000 times better.
Not seen that one with dead boy and Mat Damon yet....can't stand fucking damons failface:|
Watched Baron Munchbollocks at the cinema and absolutely hated it back then....also its got Uma Failman in:|

That's what got me looking for his other flicks actually :) Hadn't seen it in yonks and it took me back ^_^ And I kinda agree about the lass in it, though I don't know who Barkin is but I'll take yer word for it =D
There were hints and elements of Fear n Loathing in Tideland I thought, in the camera work mostly. But yea I was glad to come across it, definitely one of my favourite flicks I'd say :)

I just watched La Jetée, the french short film that 12 monkeys was based on. Really good stuff, it's just black and white photos and a voiceover but it's really powerful

I wonder what would happen to this thread if only people like me...eg that would only be me currently since Spade is wanking dogs is Australia.....who actually watch dvds instead of PIRATING THEM or downloading them were allowed to contribute here?
:\
Please feel free to admit you actually watch dvds here as I feel left out.
Also if anyone has a blueray player connected up to a big fuck off screen with massive 5.1 sound available can you comment on blueray stuff at all as I've never watched anything in this setup.

So I recently put down 2 Ridley Scott films on our list and thought about the rest, a bunch of which I haven't seen.If anyone has seen any of the rest then do tell me if they are arse or not please.
# Body of Lies 2008 Not seen.
# American Gangster (2007)Well its kind of good, certainly well made, but then I read that it bears almost zero resemblance to the real characters on which its supposedly based.
# A Good Year (2006)Not seen and it looks arse.
# Kingdom of Heaven (2005)Keep meaning to watch the directors cut, not least because its supposed to be way better than theatrical and includes much more of Eva Green who is correct.
# Matchstick Men (2003)Not seen
# Black Hawk Down (2001)Not seen.
# Hannibal (2001)Not seen, most likely never will as it looks like a clusterfuck.
# Gladiator (2000)First time I saw it I hated it, a few years later on tv I liked it somewhat more.
# G.I. Jane (1997)The Moorebeast is in it and that = arse.
# White Squall (1996)Not seen, always looked like it would be ok.
# 1492: Conquest of Paradise (1992)Really Good.
# Thelma & Louise (1991)I watched it in a film studies module at uni and we had to go into it in detail which sort of fucked it up for me.
# Black Rain (1989/I)Not watched all way through, some of it reminded me of Blade runner I seem to remember....maybe the rain and asian setting.
# Someone to Watch Over Me (1987)Not seen.
# Legend (1985)Not seen theatrical cut all way through and it was pan and scan but seemed semi-ok, would like to see the longer cut in widescreen at some point
# Blade Runner (1982)Correct.
# Alien (1979)Correct.
# The Duellists (1977)Correct.

Hmm 1000 posts....time to break out the GBL...oh wait its been broken out all week.....

Never seen it but I remember my mate telling me about it years ago as we were big fans back then. Doesn't look like my kinda thing, though I am rather fond of Juliette Lewis. She hasn't done anything remotely credible for God knows how long now though.

Ellen Barkin is amazing. I particularly liked her in This Boy's Life...which I may as well recommend whilst I'm here.

....can't stand fucking damons failface

I know exactly what you mean, and I avoided watching anything with him in it simply because he was in it. But I thought he was pretty decent in The Departed.

Please feel free to admit you actually watch dvds here as I feel left out.

I still watch DVD's, don't buy them so much anymore cuz I can't be arsed. But nor do I download films. I watch a lot of shit on TV and occasionally rent from Blockbuster.

how shit's your internet like? here it takes about 5 mins for a decent xvid up until 2 hours for a decent bluray rip

I am totally ignorant of where to download films from and I know that no one is going to tell me here:(.
I know a few torrent sites and they are really fucking slow:|eg a 700mb movie taking 6 hours to download. And my parents have a decent virgin connection too.
Otherwise I would download divx films and then if I liked them I would eventually buy them.

aye i still buy a decent amount of films, got a shelf behind me with 100+ bought ones on I just rarely pay £15 for one, I think it's a bit much.

Yeah £15 is pretty expensive for just one film when I only ever watch them once or twice if its very good. :\

That said I will prob pay more than that to go to Vue and watch The Firm. Its made by the same people as The Business and Football Factory. Saw the trailer and it looks like it will be worth going to see.. :D

I've kind of given up on the downloading tbh. Its great to get films free, and especially as I got rid of Sky Movies.. but the quality of the last few seemed like they were ruining the films for me! If anyone has a good source to download from please share.

I rent DVDs and watch films at the theatre. I don't tend to buy DVD's. I also download, but not so often (mainly because I need the subtitles because of my hearing, and most downloads don't have them).

Great fawkin' movie!

I watched District 9 last night & loved every minute. When I watch a movie while sat in front of the pc I randomly click the mouse, fuck around on the web, hit F5 in Second Opinion waiting to pounce on a spammer or nob jockey, play online poker, anything to keep the mind active. I have issues :|

I had it full screen on the monitor & never touched the mouse once! When a fidgety bastard like me can sit at peace & watch a movie all the way through without the mind wandering, it's testament to what a great movie it was.

Go see it now.
