Pennsylvania Allows Syringe Sales Without Prescription, Effective Immediately!

I had no idea you needed a script to get needles (I don't IV). That just sounds stupid. It's like needing a script to buy a pillbox.

Good news. I only wish it was covered more. As far as coverage in the main newspapers here, it was relegated to a few sentence paragraph in the "Briefly/City-Region" section. :|

I tried it and it worked fine, however this was in philadelphia, I would like to know about some experiences in the suburbs or in the non urban areas of the state. This law is a godsend to some of us who want to keep HIV, Hep C, and other termanal illnesses.

1 point for harm reduction in the states!

That is why I am informing anyone I know that might be remotely interested in this law, I suggest others do the same

Huh, odd. I bought a syringe online that came with some e-liquid, never considered that it may have been illegal to buy in my state.

tried this today in a very rural part of pa....like 30 min south of harrisburg....

girl behind pharm desk was like starting to say "you need a per" when i interupted her and said sorry hun, law was just passed saying i dont....

she checked with her boss and got me a box of 100 :)

fucking SWEET!!!!

Nice.

I would've printed out an article (not on Blue Light) discussing the new law and said "this is my prescription", but that's just me.

I am from the states, but I have been living in Australia for a bit over a year now. In Australia they have loads of needle and syringe programs which are federally funded. I work at one and there is no limit to how many syringes you can get and they are FREE. I am not an IV drug user, but in my opinion this completely makes sense b/c if clean equipment is provided for free w/ no questions asked people will use it. These programs have been running in Australia since the late 80's/ early 90's. In the eyes of the Australian government this is reducing the amount of money that would have to spent down the track to treat people w/ hep C or HIV.

yeah Ive had them pull that one on me here in Michigan. One place rang me up for a box of 100 and Im just glad I caught it.

Just so you know this isn't some trick to screw over IV drug users, insulin syringes are commonly supplied in boxes of 100ct. There are a lot of pharmacies that don't stock smaller packs of 10ct because there isn't much demand.

No, PA is a corrupt piece of shit with some of the most draconian laws on the book. Old state, old politics, old laws, and a common wealth status all lead to a horrifically corrupt government with little reguard for the residents of such a pivotal state of the union. It is sad as PA was once a leader in liberty but now....well Ed Rendell is our governor.

Huaca, right on. It is beyond me how so many people support this guy.

Yeah he's an asshole I wanted to throw something at his ass when he had a conference at our school (of all places)

He had security and shit like he's the president

thats a joke that there was even a law against that.

here in australia they have a 24hr vending machine outside the local hospital so people don't even need to see another human and ask for them.

just wondering but how the fuck did any needle users get them at all then before this?

Online for years, diversion from pharmacies and hospitals, diversion from vets, aggro supply stores which sold without script, use and sale by hobby places ETC

Keep in mind, that although most states may allow sale of syringes without a prescription, that doesn't mean any harmless junkie go actually BUY a syringe.

I think in most places, its up to the pharmacist if they actually let you buy them..
That's the way it is in Texas, or at least Houston, Tx anyhow.

I've had to argue and yell at my fair share of pharmacists just to get a needle.
Fing annoying.

we think alike.....

i had 3 seperate articles on my iphone i broke out and was ready to show the girl who was like the pharm tech, but the lady in the back who musta been the pharmacist could hear me quoting dates/law names/needle gauge/length/etc

and i think figured "FUCK IT" this kid is on his shit....LOL

SO HAPPY!!!! about time we got out of the dark ages at least a tiny nudge...

Yeah there are only two pharmacies that will sell 10-20ct

Tried this out in a Girard (suburb of Erie) pharmacy just yesterday. Got a tenpack but the pharmacist/tech gave me this look, more of a stare, that just penetrated my soul as if I was scum of the earth coming in to buy needles. He sold them to me.

I have absolutely no problem with yelling at a pharmacist. They deserve being yelled at, and do not deserve my business if they don't properly dispense harm production supplies to those who need it (this can mean needles, but also extends to condoms, birth control, the morning after pill...etc).

"If you don't know state law, I'll find someone who does. I am sorry you are too incompetent to do your job properly, maybe they should find someone else without a cross up their ass."

I think this is what I'm going to try next time. =D

Yeah for real, I typically would never get a 10 pack. I prefer to get 100 or multiples of 100 at a time. If I'm buying online or in a store, 100 ct is common. If I'm picking up from an exchange, they have boxes of 200 ct and they also have packs of 10 (so if you're getting 200 you'll get 20 packs, if you're getting 600 you'll get 60 packs, etc).

I really prefer the 200ct boxes to the 10 packs, but it's all good.

If you live in a state with the "prescription" laws, there are people who will deal needles (like people deal heroin or cocaine), sometimes the same person. That's just what I've heard though - I don't live in such a state.

If you live in a state without "prescription" laws (IE you only need to be 18 years of age or older); then there's quite a few ways, some of which Garuda touched on.

Online for years, diversion from pharmacies and hospitals, diversion from vets, aggro supply stores which sold without script, use and sale by hobby places ETC

There are websites that will sell you needles without a prescription, however I hear most of them are being enforced to check prescriptions if they're being shipped to a "prescription" state. More importantly, most states don't have such a law so most websites will just ship to your front door - no questions asked.

Sometimes a pharmacy technician will sell them to you anyways - plus if you know someone who is a diabetic you can bring in a bottle of insulin (so it appears you are a diabetic).

The biggest one of all is a Syringe Exchange Program. They're obviously not going to need to check to see if you have a prescription or not.

Haha yeah, anytime I've been turned down for needles though, keep in mind I was doped up and I looked like it.. it was quite obvious..

So of course, I'd get upset, and babble and argue even more cause I was so high I didn't give a fuck.

One of my friends told the pharmacist with a completely cold and stone faced one time "I hope you know that if I go out and use a dirty needle and contract hiv, its your fault!"

Can you imagine being told that? and still not selling someone a needle?
Crazy

Keep in mind, there are ways to get around a pharmacist if you're imaginative enough.

I've prolly bullshited my way into at least 5 packs of points that otherwise they were not going to sell to me..
One time I told them i was outta town and a diabetic and therefore it'd be pointless for them to try and contact my physician to verify that I was on insulin..

One time I told them that I felt like I was going into diabetic shock....

And a bunch of other shit that I'm sure made sense to my heroin filled brain at the time.
