the official 2010 NFL thread!

Yeah everyone was pretty speechless when he fumbled. There wasn't much shit talking when the Bills were winning, just a lot of relief that they looked like a good football team against a good football team in a foreign stadium. I didn't get really pissed until I started pounding beers after the last drive of a game.

But now that I'm not so drunk, aside from the obvious of having the Bills pull out a victory, I can't really ask for more out of that game. The offense was efficient in moving the ball. Both the run and short passing games looked good. The defense had a touchdown and had good pressure on Brady during the first half. They were able to eliminate most of that oh-so-feared Brady/Moss deep ball threat, and the Special Teams(aside from the fumble) was solid too.

Overall they did as well as I thought they would, and better than most others thought they would. I won a 10-person pot by picking closest to the actual score(27-20 Bills). Of course everyone else had the Pats picked to win by at least 10.

It was a tough loss, and I'd have a lot more to celebrate if they had won, but I'm definitely a lot more excited about the Bills' prospect this year than I was on Sunday. =D
 
I have to admit, while we're being all honest and civil to each other for a few seconds, I was about to get on here and try to kiss ass when I thought the Bills had it in the bag. :) They did look fuckin good, I'm not gonna lie. D line kicked ass. I was shocked out how good they played compared to what I thought was gonna happen.
 
I know better of the Bills to assume anything after one game, but if they can continue to play like that, and even improve, the AFC East is going to be an interesting division this year. The Bills certainly aren't the best team the Pats are going to play this year and unless they shape up quick Pats fans expecting another Superbowl appearance or perfect season are going to be sorely disappointed. Aside from the last 5 minutes of the game they looked little more than an average team I wouldn't bet on making it past the first round of the Playoffs.

I guess we'll need a few weeks to see if Brady and the gang were just shaking off the rust, or if they're just not the same team they were two years ago.
 
you have to be proud the way the Bills played - specially on defense! I was rooting for them hard, GM, as I love an underdog story. Schubert's pick for 6 was the play of the game. Paul Poslusny (sp) looks to be out for some games which will obviously hurt. it looked like Tom Brady finally remembered how to plant his front foot in the last quarter. the Patriots defense looking defunct, just as I predicted, because I still don't buy the fact that Trent Edwards is that good.

as long as the Pats have Welker and Moss, they will contend. Fred Jackson looked solid last night, you were right in commending him.

I hate the Pats and want them to lose, but I also hate Phillip Rivers and like seeing him lose. also, it would be great if the Raiders could return to prominence. their defense played inspired, but I just don't buy the accuracy of JaMarcus Russel.

after Week 1, what are everybody's top 10 teams in the NFL?

I will post mine when I get back from the movies.
 
After week 1:

  1. Philly
  2. Pittsburgh
  3. New Orleans
  4. Baltimore
  5. NY Giants
  6. Green Bay
  7. New England
  8. Dallas
  9. Indy
  10. Atlanta

I dont believe the Saints can be considered for #1 until they play some D, but Drew Brees sure is fun to watch.

Top 10 for Week 2:

1. Steelers - no surprise, even without Polamalu the Pittsburgh D is a machine.
2. Eagles - this might change next week, after what happens with Garcia/McNabb
3. Giants - they have a crushing defensive front.
4. Titans - Tennessee is the best one loss team in the league.
5. Baltimore - against a meager KC, the Ravens put up record offensive stats.
6. Patriots - in the second half, Brady looked to be back.
7. Vikings - maybe they should be higher, as Peterson looks MVP-caliber.
8. Colts - Peyton Manning is still Peyton Manning.
9. Falcons - Matt Ryan has this team looking like serious NFC contenders.
10. Chargers - a lot to dislike in their opener, but they will win their division.

The Chargers are a quandary to me. They have some of the best talent in the league especially at RB and QB yet they continue to underachieve. That is one reason they were not in my top 10 this time. I need more proof they arent going to play average until they have to win. If you ask me, Norv Turner is the problem. He will probably be the first coach canned this season if they hit a losing skid.

And how can you have a one loss team in the top 10 and keep Dallas out? I hate the Cowboys but they at least won their game. :p

I haven't looked at the week 2 match-ups. Just my rankings bases on week 1 results taking into consideration week 1 match-ups.

if you're going single games then yeah, but if you're going best team (potentially for 16 games) then the better team doesn't ALWAYS win. you can have plenty 0-1 teams that are better than plenty 1-0 teams.
 
I kept Dallas out because I don't think that they can't win their division, and I also think that the WildCard will go to either Philly or NY (the team that doesn't clinch).

although, the Cowboys are off to a better start than I predicted, without T. O. maybe they can sneak by the Giants for the Wildcard?

Tennessee is my one-loss team, ranked, because I still think that they are one of the elite teams of the AFC. they just had the misfortune of playing the best football team in the NFL (right now).

I think both nfc wildcard spots will go to nfc east teams, with washington being the odd team out. Its by far the best division in football.
 
I would go with the AFC North. despite having two cupcakes, I think that last year the two best teams in the NFL were the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Baltimore Ravens. but having those two Ohio teams really hurts my case, eh?

maybe, in a shocking turn of events, one of the better divisions in football this year will be the NFC North?

the Steelers are playing the Bears at Chicago on Sunday. I gotta like Pittsburgh's chances, specially if Cutler throws anywhere near his 4 picks in his debut as a Bear. it sure sucks having two defensive stars in Polamalu and Urlacher out for this game. would be a lot more fun to watch with those guys in.

The first half was meh, so i took a little power nap but the second half is going great
about 9 minutes to go

Are we all NOW in agreement that Vegas was WAY the fuck off, when they installed the Patriots (before the season started) as the PROHIBITIVE favorites to win this season's Super Bowl?

They're a solid, yet ordinary team, imo.

No better than the Steelers, Chargers, Colts, Vikings, Saints, Cowboys, and maybe even the Giants and Jets.

Parity, Parity, Parity.
