i'm downloading bottle rocket the now, sounds quite good. it's the same guy that done the life aquatic etc so should be pretty funny.

I'd like to see it. It previewed at the Edinburgh Film Festival a few months ago but I missed it. If I've time before I go away I'll check it out.

do it man, it's well worth going to see.

everyone needs to get in about this movie

watched it last night, fucking top film. best war movie i've seen for a long time. it's about a bomb disposal sqad in iraq. it's so fucking tense, i'd have loved to have seen it in the cinema. i'm gonna watch it again on a proper telly instead of the laptop

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0887912/

Second that one.....Normally wary of American Iraq films, but this one was excellent.

i was actually pretty disapointed with that movie, i saw it after seeing all his other films and it was my least favorite, though still entertaining.

Yeah it's not as good as Rushmore, Life Aquatic etc.

Still worth giving it a go though. Having a decent rip always helps too...

Gotta recommend

Watched it for the first time recently, and it's quite a nice sorta film, pretty easy going, few lulz... i find Bill Murray really watchable though, so maybe that helps. The Groundhog too... %)

Fucking bastard downloaders;)
Its not fair...some of us have to PAY to watch films:\
I am stuck with whats on TV,dvd and video or coughing up too much for the cinema.

Anyway I watched this on Friday:

I thus quote:
Critical reception

The film received strongly positive reviews from critics. As of November 2008, the review aggregate website Rotten Tomatoes reported that 90% of critics gave the film positive reviews, based on 184 reviews, some of whom thought it was a dramatization of a true story.[3] Metacritic reported the film had an average score of 82 out of 100, based on 36 reviews.[4] Owen Gleiberman of Entertainment Weekly gave it an 'A' saying that it was "better than good, it just about restores your faith." Roger Ebert gave it a 4-star review and Richard Roeper named it the 'best film of the year.'[5] It was also Richard Schickel's top film of 2007, and he called it “a morally alert, persuasively realistic and increasingly suspenseful melodrama, impeccably acted and handsomely staged by Tony Gilroy".

I knew nothing about it except it was supposed to be good. Since lovefilm is being slow all the time with my dvds or I watch them too quick then I've started getting some out the libraries to supplement.
There do seem to be a substantial amount with George Clooney in and I am currently suspecting that Sheffield City council has got him on some sort of hot list or something!
Anyway I liked it so much that I watched it again straight away with the commentary on....due to the fact that I can't sleep till 4am currently.

I quite fancy seeing that. Haven't watched any films for weeks now (except Alphadog on the TV the other night which I'd seen before and is pretty gash) since my lovefilm susbcription came to an end. Need to watch a film! Just realised I have a blockbuster account, can you use your card at any shop or just the one you signed up for?

Try at a shop or ring them up.
Yeah I watched Alpha dawg too. I was trying to work out who it was aimed at. I can well imagine 13 - 17 year old boys idolising it. I can also imagine some people in the US who were previously quite liberal turning Republican upon viewing it.
It seemed to inhabit a universe similar to Brett Easton Ellis' early works. eg Very rich Californian kids with fuck all to do and no brain power just messing around without any real thought for consequences.
But how did the parents get all that money and then end up with children thicker than any chav on a council estate in this country?
Everytime there was one or more of them together the conversational quality was no-brow. Virtually all of them were the most idiotic, braindead wastes of space imaginable.
Oh well....dawg.

I really enjoyed Michael Clayton, was a really good film. Watched it with family though and only one other out of the 6 of us like it though, the ones that didnt like it said they would rather have watched a film where they didnt have to concentrate and think. Me and my uncle both really liked it though. I would recommend it for sure.

Orphan is a decent enough film, I watched that the other week and quite enjoyed it. Im looking forward to Avatar though, I think its going to be some serious piece of eyecandy!

Arhhh people who don't want to have to think during a film!:X;)
I say force them to watch Memento and quiz them repeatedly after as to who did what and why!
Also as you think Into the Wild is great and Michael Clayton I shall take notice of your recomendations from now on:D

The aliens look ugly in Avatar...which is putting a strain on my urge to watch it. This is exactly the same as any film with Matt Damon in, hence why I've never seen Bourne 1 - 3.

If I didn't know the entire plot of orphan inside out I would have considered watching it on dvd one day.

^ I hadnt even heard of Orphan and knew nothing about it when I turned up at the cinema - I suppose if you know what its about it would spoil the entire movie. Avatar still looks really impressive - I cant see every cinema forking out the money to have the screens etc upgraded to screen the thing though :(.

Is Avatar playable on all current screens that can play Real-D films?
If so theres at least one here.
My entire reason for watching Avatar is that it will not work as well on dvd. Thats why I watched Coraline at the cinema and it was worth it, although it would be good in 2D too.

I subscribe to a bunch of horror websites and they all give Orphan good reviews but some give too much away and the basic plot has been done before so rather than see it I went down the roads to spoilerdom:\
It has to be said that your thing of going in with no foreknowledge would most likely make it a really good experience from what I've read.
The thing I don't like is that every poster of it says something like Esther has a secret and Theres something wrong with Esther. And this means that there is going to be a big fat twist which I will then spend the whole thing looking for...Hello M Night Shiteplan!

TheKid liked it. :D

It's such a muddled film with too many characters coming and going, being involved in a major part or turning point in the plot then never being seen again or dissapearing for whole sections of the film. Plus characters would change from being hard mofos to pussys and vice versa from scene to scene. At first the main young drug dealer was a badass beating the fuck out the skinhead bloke who appeared to be a grovelling, worhtless, no good pussy, the next thing you know the drug dealer is just a wimp and the skinhead bloke is a hardcore martial arts fighter who you don't want to mess with. The scene where he fights all those randoms at the party, all these kids start squaring up and he wipes them all out. Plus the kidnapped kid he ends up being a taikwando expert. Reckon the director has a bit of a thing about martial arts films like.

What was the point in Bruce Willis? He played such a minor part that it seemed like they just wanted to say Bruce Willis was in the film, and the old man who played his mate, why was he even part of the plot, completely unneccessary character.

The bits where they cut to characters being interviewed by a reporter ater the event and try and make it seem like a documentary is really badly done.

And Timberlake is a bad actor.

The whole film is a mess and it's obvious how it's going to end too. :\

hence why I've never seen Bourne 1 - 3.

I've seen the first two, a terrible series of films. :|

my mate told me what orphan was about, no point seeing it now. tbh i wouldn't have went to see it in the first place, but now i know the sort of plot twist i wish i had seen it. does that make sense?

I read what it was about too. Thought it looked awful from the clips anyway so I wouldn't have went to see it either but unlike you now I know the plot twist I'm really glad I haven't went to see it, what a crap twist plus I thought that it might turn out to be something like that anyway. Call it a good guess.

^^
Alpha Dawwwg was based on a true story hence the continual use of "witness no. 13" etc.
I knew that in advance so when watching it I concluded that the film was pieced together from different peoples testimonies, hence why the blonde guy was weedy one point, hard others, and full on insane in others. If viewed with that in mind it sort of makes sense, I mean Timberlakes character was a total arse in the beginning but later for a while turned out to be "the nice guy", so either thats his testimony vs others or the writer/director added some in to make his character not such a piece of shit.
Bruce and Sharon probs did it for kudos for playing different roles and got paid peanuts.
And you don't know who Harry Dean Stanton is:|?
There were way too many characters for a conventional script to deal with, hence why I believe some of the fault is because its from a whole bunch of witness testimonies that no doubt are highly varied in what actually happened.
