ya, well, I quit after 1st semester. My BA is from a local state U.

I did well on the English portion and very poorly on the Math portion. I only completed Algebra 1 and Geometry in highschool.

I just didn't like doing my homework. So I decided to put off math until college. Then I skipped it there as well.

I got a 1460 on the old format - 800M 660V. Go figure they didn't put any of the vocab from the study books on the actual test

If my math score matched I would have scored in the 1300 or 1400 range.

My brother did just that and he received a scholarship to a State school. He spent a little too much time getting high during that time to finish though.

I took the old test (1600), got an 1180 overall, but I don't remember specifically for math and verbal.

Like, OMG. On my PSAT I got a 66 and an 80. The "reading comprehension" part is what tanked my verbal score.

The test that really saved my ass was the Putnam. I banged out a 32 my senior year of HS.

Haha, people think the SAT sucks. The Putnam is what, 6 hours??? And the median score is a 0 nationally?

Test and grades. I believe GPA is actually weighted a little higher.

The general GRE and SAT are like....same level of difficulty. Or at least I thought. The subject GREs, though, now those are HARD.

I wanted to retake it until I got at least a 1400, but it was $50 per test. I'm a bit disappointed, especially considering some of the scores my friends received, but such is life.

Back in the day (<1995), an SAT score in the ~1500's pretty much guaranteed you admission into any powerhouse uni. But then they changed the scoring, so that anything UNDER 1500 pretty much guarantees rejection; in fact, top schools routinely reject students with perfect SAT's (at least, they did back in my day, 1999).

I don't think "grades" were ever much of an issue with the top unis. Even if you're a valedictorian, so what? Each of the thousands of HS's in America produces one every year. On the other hand, really bad grades can raise some eyebrows, unless there are some extenuating circumstances; and there always are if the student's profile is otherwise on par with other top applicants.
