This is incorrect. Yes, the same constipating opiates are in the grounds that are in the tea, BUT, eating grounds gives you a boatload of fiber. The fiber helps make you regular. Add some Metamucil or equivalent fiber source every day (not at the same time as the grounds) and I guarantee you will be more regular than you have ever been. I know that's the case with people I've talked to. Tea gave my wife hemorrhoids, but with grounds plus Metamucil every night, we're both healthier digestive-wise than we've ever been in our entire lives.
And to those people claiming tea is better than grounds... hey.. to each their own. We prefer grounds. I understand the concept that a boil will extract more morphine and a cold water extraction will yield more codeine, but I don't think that concept translates directly into eating raw grounds. When you eat raw grounds, EVERYTHING is going into your digestive system. Just because your digestive system is not the temperature of boiling water, does not mean it will perform an extraction equivalent to cold water. Stomach acid and the actions of your intestines does not equal cold water. Tea gives more of a rush because the alkaloids are readily available in the water at the time of drinking. Your digestive system can absorb those alkaloids much faster from the water than it can from the raw grounds. However, it will be very difficult (probably impossible) to get the amount of alkaloids into your tea that your body can pull from the grounds. This is our experience.
