The Travel Thread - Second Destination

Lebanon is probably the most laid back middle-eastern country, there's a massive christian population there so its not a muslim-fest like others around it. And i hear their cannabis is quite nice too :D
 
£400 return flights from London to Iran seems like an absolute steal to me! Go check out the lonelyplanet forums for advice on specific countries.
 
Depends how you look at it I guess, if you don't want to spend a few hundred Europe it is.

I recommend the South / Balkans. Slovenia, Bosnia, Croatia etc.

Well, that's kind of why I was thinking Israel. I'm going to Portugal for a week in September plus have been to the Netherlands this year too so wouldn't mind heading somewhere out of Europe for a change. Tel Aviv seemed to fit the bill as it's only 5 1/2 hours flight and not too expensive. Iran's probably just that little bit too far/expensive.
 
You mentioning wanting somewhere out of Europe / a change. Bosnia could be just what you need, it's in Europe but it's very different, more a clash of east meets west I'd say. Very cultural, lots of history and absolutely fascinating. Sarajevo & Mostar are outstanding places.
 
Jamshyd said something about not believing Israel's new tourist marketing strategy, saying Tel Aviv is the new Ibiza, and that it is a load of bollocks.
 
Aye I read that, I didn't realise they were marketing as the new Ibiza but I don't beleive it either.

What's your next travel plans eDDe? Are you not wishing you were still away / choking to get away again?
 
Looking to save up 7k (at least) by next summer. Will buy a motorbike and drive down to Italy with my girlfriend and spend a month seeing what Italy has to offer. Might go straight onto Croatia depending on how my bike's holding out.

Other than that, nothing planned. But depending on how much I'm earning, I might be able to go snowboarding again without compromising my summer trip.
 
i would love to go to the Lebanon.beriut,bekar valley and all the way up its coast.
ive read a few of Robert Fisks books and other stuff also.
if i ever take a time out month or two thats one of the places i will go.

Yes, and it's fuckin hard work. Did apple thining in WA. 6 days a week, 7am to 4pm, 30 mins for lunch. I think we got AUD 10 an hour. Hated virtually every minute of it, so fucked it off after 3 weeks. We were camping at the time as well. Blew half my wages at a Carl Cox gig about 1 week after i finished. :\
 
I got my visa, got my dollars, got my jabs. All that's left to do is wash clothes and pack some stuff and photocopy other stuff:D

Yeah I thought as much. It definitily will be hard work but hoping it may be a laugh too, bit of banter with everyone else doing it etc and allows you to get an extra years WHV which is nice. You get paid on a weekly basis?

I can't be arsed carrying a tent around with me, you drove around Aus I take it?
 
Paid weekly.

Got a tent off some other travellers. Had it in WA, train to SA, bus to Melbourne, flight to Sydney, flogged it there. We did do some exploring in a hire car, and the tent was great. Camped in some mental places.
 
I've just applied and apparently been awarded my WHV. Thought it took some time but paid for it then checked my progress and says it's been granted. :)

Flight to Sydney to book now, then travel insurance to sort out. 12+ month travel insurance is expensive! That worldnomad one people recommended are pricey.
 
^ How much you looking at? I would have thought anything around 100 to 150 bills would be ok.
