Drugs that mimic schizophrenia

I was wondering which psychoactive best mimics the hallucinations schizophrenia produces. I say most psychedelics I have done, have not lived to the image of what true psychosis would feel like, maybe the way Cannabis produces paranoia, is in a way kind of psychotic, but I was curious as to what kind of hallucinogen would mimic the hallucinations experienced by psychotic individuals.

Maybe salvia, for me would be the closest. It just seems so 'insane' to have one's perception blown out the window, no other psychedelic would compare. Any other experiences?
 
usually to mimic schizophrenia the usual supects are DA reuptake inhibitors...methamphetamine and cocaine... what are you lookin for here?
 
that would be ayahuasca with datura.

or yeah. hit the crackmeth psychosis. that would be the one.

Hm, yea long term use of amphetamines or cocaine would definitely produce true psychosis. I was curious to know how schizophrenia can be linked to psychoactives, effects wise. Do many hallucinogens interact with the same area of the brain that produces hallucinations for the psychotic? I also heard of very heavy opioid dose (morphine, heroin or something strong) would produce hallucinations very similar to schizophrenia.

Ayahuasca + Datura sounds like a witch's brew :\
But it's interesting to note that delieriants produce eerie dark hallucinations that are common to users, ex. shadow people in peripheral vision.
 
^As a long time opioid user and abuser, i can safely say that neither neither oither overindulgence or withdrawal will lead to schizophrenia or hallucinations...
 
The medical term for a drug that mimics the effects of psychosis is psychotomimetic for the record (and to aid in further research). The wikipedia page for this term is unfortunately tiny and that was the extent of research I was willing to do at 2am... it noted that Carl Sagan anonymously referred to marijuana as psychotomimetic and that pentazocine and butorphanol would fit into this category which surprised me (however I don't know very much about those 2 specific opioids).

I don't think crack/meth psychosis is what he is talking about because that isn't a drug mimicking the effect of schizophrenia but ACTUAL psychosis.
 
As a person who has had genuine psychotic episodes, and a person who has used DMT, I can say that they most certainly are NOT the same thing whatsoever.

Fuck, do I ever wish my psychotic episodes were like psychedelic trips.
 
How are you guys comparing psychedelic experiences to schizophrenia? Talk about downplaying someones disorder for your own understanding. You think because you've eaten too many hits and had a few rough hours because of your own mistakes, you can relate to someone who has psychosis which isn't chemically induced?

I was actually about to post the same thing. I typed a couple of paragraphs, but couldn't quite explain the point I wanted to get across.

I really think comparing select effects of a drug to the whole array of effects that come with such a serious disorder isn't accurate or helpful.

If I had to name a drug whose effects bare closest resemblance to those of schizophrenia, I guess I'd have to say LSD, but this is still quite a stretch.
 
My question is WHY?

Why would anyone want to mimic schizophrenia? Even for just a few hours?

I fucking wouldn't.
 
olanzapine gave me some horrific schizophrenia with hallucinations and delusions. i kept trying to convince myself i hadn't completely lost it. yea, fun times... 8)

LSD is nothing like that. When you're tripping you know what's going on. It's not like you can't distinguish reality from the psychedelic world. There's no comparison.
 
To answer this, I guess we need to hear from a member who tried a bunch of psychedelics as a kid, and then developed schizophrenia later as an adult.

I tried psychedelics as a young teen, and had psychotic episodes later, although I never took medication, and have pretty much been "normal" for a while. That's why I said back there that DMT is NOT!!! I repeat NOT!!! like schizophrenia at all.

Psychedelic drugs and delusional psychoses a la schizophrenia are a completely different story. They shouldn't be confused. Sometimes being heavy on the psychs can cause a person to get bizarre as a cumulative consequence, but the psychedelic experience itself is not the same a paranoid psychosis, even though psychoses can very well be triggered by a psychedelic trip. I wish it was, then I might have enjoyed myself through all of that fucking torture.

Anticholinergics like datura and diphenhydramine are closer to genuine psychoses than serotonergic psychedelics are by miles.
