Graffiti

I read the rest of the post. I'm not saying it is a valid industry that needs to be nurtured. Nor am I saying I agree with it because it provides jobs. All I'm saying is that like it or not, the result of graffiti is that someone has to clean up after them and therefore jobs are generated. I would also say that terrorists, murderers and other stains on society also create jobs as a byproduct.

The company I manage is has a whole division dedicated entirely to graffiti removal. If people stopped tagging completely and everything was removed then dozens of people would be out of a job. Therefore graffiti DOES provide jobs.

I agree that we are similar to garbage men in that we have to clean up after people.

However I still don't understand your first sentence.

best example of this idea is war.. biggest job provider on the planet.. if only people liked peace less

Graffiti, contrary to how you guys have rationalised it, is NOT a new industry or business or growth that leads to employment. It's not developing a plot of land, it's not opening a factory, it's not a farm or a mall. Graffiti and your idea of employment is the equivalent of garbage and the people who dispose of them.

Do not, even for a moment, deign to confuse my statement of fact with condoning illegality.

chopped chimp: My first sentence meant the side industry of graffiti removal is only made necessary by the existence of graffiti, like your guy who takes out the garbage or pest removal. Graffiti itself is not an industry that leads to employment like the examples I mentioned, so there's a difference there.

Is graffiti a good thing because it provides employment? Is rape and theft a good thing because they provide employment?

fortehlulz: Your statement 'it's keeping a whole lot of blokes employed' could've implied 'if not for graffiti, these folks would be jobless.' I was pointing out the difference in how I perceive the relationship between graffiti and employment. No confusion there except what you thought I implied.

I'm not sure whether he has been mentioned in this thread yet but a really good Graff artist from Brisbane is sofles/gesht his style is really one of a kind and has sprayed the city with his work...

Some of his pieces are really really good he has even got a piece of art work in the Brisbane Art Museum. Kind of funny when you think about it because he has got a $50 000 dollar reward for his arrest lol.

Louis Vuitton store in NYC for the launch of a new collection in tribute to the late graffiti artist and fashion designer, Stephen Sprouse.

some graf looks really cool but I hate that fucken tag shit which Im sure everyone here does, I busted a mate at work tagging in the toilets and gave him shit about for about the last 3 months, saying shit like "I cant beleive your one of those stupid tag wankers" and "if I ever see that shit in my suburb Im gonna kick your ass" etc etc, funny thing is I haven't seen his tag reappear at work lately haha

^^^ WA is covered!!!!! Its beyond a joke. Even war memorials and shit get tagged, its just not cool. I love rocko btw Lol.

i have to admit, Tel Aviv has some of the BEST graffiti Ive EVER seen.

not just random gang sprayings or meaningless shit

but actual artwork and graffiti that has meaning.
I took tons of pictures whilst traveling through the ghettos of Tel Aviv and i might start putting up some for you guys to see. Its truly amazing

:)
i cant wait till i go back and just aimlessly wander the streets taking pictures of graffiti and feeding the 3987534398457 stray cats
ha
good times

Well since i dont think anyone else here is, but I am a graff writer.
And its more than for the sake of art, at least to me and this city there is.
If you belong to a crew, you are more than yourself.
One of the biggest things about American Graffiti, is getting your name up.
And if your part of a crew getting their name up aswell.
No matter if its a huge billboard piece, or a sticker with your moniker slapped on a pole.
I always carry a pack of stickers, and a bundle of markers no matter where i go.
Ill write my name on anything, newpaper dispensers, buses, trucks, trains, walls, benches, toilets, you get the point.
Most people look at it and say "wow what fucking scumbag ruined this bench"
while another writer will look at it and be like "Oh shit how did KAYO and ARSN from THC get that?" Or " Have you seen that DTEK tag he's been getting up everywhere"
There is also the risk aspect, of it may not be a good tag, but it was done in daylight on the busiest highway in IL.

Its alot different from a taggers point of view than a citizens, But when im 100ft off the air, doing a billboard, and i look over and just see all the cars on the highway, and i know that all those cars are about to see mine and my crews tag. There is just no feeling like it.

Here are a few videos of different graff.
Risky to destructive.
the three of these are very different styles of graff.

Yeah I agree with this....go nuts on billboards and other forms of public advertising, train stations, bus shelters, that kind of thing.....I think it's wrong tagging memorials or public art though; this arvo I was walking past Telstra Dome and saw someone's tag on one of the green sculptural pieces they've got outside there. It's just shit. Why deface someone else's artwork when there's a massive ugly concrete dome sitting 100 feet away which would make a perfect canvas? :\

yo mikey ive seen enough TKO videos to last me a life time. lets see some of your outlines?

and raz of course that shits wrong and disrespectful but it aint the real graffiti writers that be doing that shit, one thing that is a problem with graffiti is the copy cat effect.. little kids with no sence of style and have no clue on the history of it go out with mops and bomb memorials and people houses, believe me these kids get checked into the smackdown hotel swiftly if/when theyre caught or words are found out. Anyone hear of the game "getting up" by that cocksucker mark ecko? it got banned here very quickly and i was very pleased about it, it would have had the same effect of the tony hawks games which was every kid that had a ps1 wanted to be out busting kickflips with an Element hat backwards, it was lame. it ruined skateboarding. im so glad that didnt happen with "getting up". people say graffiti will never die but in reality its already fucking dead. cope2 will put his name on fucking ANYTHING, the culture has been raped. ah fuck it just my useless 2cents, i needed to vent. With all that being said, i will be out tonight, terrorizing my beautiful city!!=D

^^^Terrorize away man.. :D

I got no issue with graff, I think it's just as much art as anything else is; it's just there's a right way and a wrong way to go about it, like you said....I've done sticker/stencil runs before (not for ages actually, I should get into it), but it's the same thing....I wouldn't do it on someone's house/shop or on top of someone else's art, I just think that's massively disrespectful...

i aggree raz, it seems were on the same page..

mikey whats with the videos you posted? that spun throwie is average, the buket throwie sucks its just an insane spot with huge risk, and a fire extinguisher tag? shits far from amazing..

Wasnt going for amazing really, alot of people here see graffiti as only one medium, so i was just trying to show that there are different styles, ranging from a tag, to be destructive with a fire extinguisher.
