The travel thread

^ Hahha, i aint overly bothered either as i mainly get comms in USD or Euros. :)

It's a bit shit for going on holiday though. :(

3-4? Aiming for 2-3 months

And even just a grand is plenty for that. So many people at my work place saying I don't need nearly that much money, but I want the freedom to buy tailor made suits and motorbikes :D

Got paid to watch it in work on iplayer =D

Got my really excited, as I'm doing the exact same trip, but starting from Hanoi then working my way down.

you should also watch the latest charlie boorman episode then, it followed him from vietnam, laos, cambodia, and he waterskiied into singapore. :D

The latest? That was bloody ages, the series finished yonks ago.

And did he not end up boating it into Singapore because he couldn't actually stay up right whilst waterskiing?

A grand for 2-3 months, you must be kidding. I'd want at least double that. You'll not be buying any motorbikes or suits.

Latest episode of Top Gear was well funny. Especially when Clarkson fell off. And when they turned the bikes into boats. :D

£1500 = $2185
= $36 to spend a day if I go for 60 days.

Can easily live on $5 a day outside of Bangkok, not that I'd want too.

eDDe I think you've gotten your figures wrong. $5 a day for accomodation, food, travel, drinks, entrance fee's to any temples, attractions etc. Not a fuckin chance!

Also have you thought about couchsurfing? It's a brilliant way to meet locals and have a whole new experience that doesn't involve just meeting travellers in hostels.

I've been on Couchsurfing for a while, even paid to get verified to make me look slightly legit.. but its hard finding a couch if you don't have any vouches.

I was thinking of $5 a day for basic accommodation and basic food. I did say live, not have a holiday. And I did say, I wouldn't want to do that.

Apparently you only need a Yellow Fever vaccination if you're coming from a country that has it

You need to get vouches first....duh! ;)

It's easy enough, get out there and meet people, let people come stay with you, join your local group and go out and meet folk for drinks or whatever activities they get up to, meet travellers who are coming to your area. It's easy to get to know folk and get vouches if you want to.

$5 a day isn't going to be enough to even get a bed for the night I wouldn't imagine let alone eat as well. I think if you times that figure by ten you've a much more realistic daily budget.

Don't have a car to get to any of the meets, and hardly any of them are in Bristol

Want to vouch me?

"couch" is a weird word. what is the difference between a "couch" and a "sofa"?

Bah.. while the flights to Singapore with a stop in Dubai has dropped in price by £50, the flight with no stops has gone up by £200!

CouchSurfing looks like a good way to get laid internationally.

Couch surfing sounds shit to me. Too much of a chance of meeting and getting stuck with wankers. ;)

I prefer breaking up a long flight by having a stop. Good to have a stroll, a beer and a ciggie.
