Russell Brand... your thoughts?

I thought this was a pretty interesting analysis of Brand and his apparent narcissism, and why he probably simply won't be able to accept fault. It seems to me that he genuinely never believed that he ever did anything wrong. Leaving his phone number etc, with someone he'd just raped! "Call me, Hun!" ?

He'll probably be exactly like Donald Trump, the primest Narcissist in the world surely, certainly the most high profile; blaming the judge, the jury, the media; essentially everyone except himself, whenever anything legal does not go his way.

The creator of the video is not a psychiatrist, but a Narcissist himself, and one who clearly understand the subject in depth, and has written books etc on the subject. He's no 2 bit know nothing grifter, imho.

Some people with conditions get fascinated by them, and want to learn everything, I was the same with Autism, leading up to my diagnosis, and in my first few years post very-late-in-life diagnosis, although that is cooling off a little now, as I feel that I'm up to speed on everything I need to know, for my own purposes, for the time being. Some people have abilities to take that interest, and the self-awareness and self analysis that can go with it, and in many ways understand their subject from the inside out, in comparison to "authorities" from academia, (imo.) Couple that with an ability to write and present valuable material, in general, I'd rather hear from this sort of person, than an academic "authority."

I guess this is a sweeping generalisation, and I mean no disrespect or offense to someone like @MsDiz , who may not have ASPD herself, but has still earned her stripes, I'm very sure. It's just in general, I feel that people with the conditions they talk or write about, understand them in a unique way, that personally appeals to me a lot more. (I realise this position is likely to cause offense, so I think the key point to stress again, is that it is just something personal to me, that I connect more with people with the condition.) I've listened to leading academic authorities on Autism like Tony Attwood, and felt that while he deserves his reputation, there's still been certain instances, where he's missed the point, or got things wrong.

Academic authorities, with the condition they are specialising in, are the ultimate source, imo. They understand from the inside out, as well as totally objectively.

Is he a lecherous creep or someone who's crossed the establishment too many times?

It didn't take channel 4 news more than an hour of the news breaking before they were suggesting he's a paedophile.

I'm not a fan of Russel Brand and his acting the goat type comedy to be honest, he makes me cringe, but it seems a bit sketchy still, he came out before the allegations even broke claiming it to be bullshit.

Brand is a self confessed ex drug and sex addict. He's joked about this alot in his stand up in the past. Now I see the media using clips from his stand up acts where he's joking about the later, as if it's evidence against him.

He does seem to be quite touchy feely. But I get the sense this could be a witch hunt, with how hard the media's going in on him straight away. They didnt go as hard with Ghislane Maxwell as what they've gone here, very quickly.

What does EADD say, is he a hero for fighting against the establishment, or a nonce who's who's hiding in plain sight for years?
Waiting 22 years to come forward makes me question the allegations who knows

@Bleaney - HG Tudor has self-diagnosed his being a narcissist. We tend to talk about 'Cluster B' disorders because as I have said elsewhere, almost nobody cleanly fits into just one set of DSM criteria. Every case is unique with each person struggling with their own daemon(s). Even the symptoms can be almost diametrically opposite from overt to covert (for example).

RB strikes me as someone in the dark triad.

That's why I mentioned that unless he's prepared to serve it ALL, he will be required to take part in an SOPD (Sex Offender Treatment Programme) and added that fooling a forensic psychiatrist who has so much potential footage to establish the 'mental toolkit' RB uses would likely not work out too well. Hence my mentioning Baxter Basics i.e. inmates on basic i.e. no privilages at all. Some DO choose that path rather than take part.

I may be wrong but I think a judge can require participation which RB could still refuse but then would never be released.

Great post!

But just to confirm, that when you stated that "RB strikes me as someone in the dark triad", you expanded on exactly what you meant by that in your paragraph that followed the previous declaration, or, did you mean that those were 1st and 2nd things, that were quite unrelated ?
Sorry if the post is abit off/overthinking/ weird. I am pretty stoned on some weed edibles, benzos, pregabs, kratom, and a naughty little extra something else, that I cannot mention.

@Bleaney - Sorry if I wasn't clear.

I only know about such programmes because Shipman ended up on basic because he refused to accept fault. I guess in that case it was 'life means life' anyway and he had got enhanced but for evidently descided it was more important to maintain his ego shell than get the extras enhanced provided. Now we know he was happier to die that deal with the very real trauma of watching his mother die of cancer (and I strongly suspect other things).

If someone has the clear option of either completing the SODP and probably a few others OR spending the rest of their life in prison, the calculus shifts.

That's why I think the judge will specify an indeterminate sentence. I still think the tarriff with be eight BUT if RB refuses to complete the courses, a parole board can reasonably say they still believe he poses a risk.

As for an appeal - yes, I'm sure he will try but that can take YEARS and isn't an automatic right. Application is a right, but a retrial can be refused. The defence has to show the sentence was disproportionate and/or provide new defence evidence. None of the women who featured in the media investigation were the complainants from Brand's criminal trial, so claiming that it 'poisoned the well' would be difficult to support.

People who think money makes like easy in UK prisons clearly hasn't bothered to read my posts. The probation service can deem someone 'high risk' and a VP BECAUSE they are both rich and (in)famous hence them being sent on the ghost train.

Anyone else tried to locate someone they know who is in an HMP lately? It can take MONTHS to even get a response so along with being on the ghost train, letters, funds and so on are all lost in the wind.

You can't pay off every single convict on every single wing of every single HMP. It's not so much the cost but don't you think every single one of them will demand protection money? Of course they will. Someone on the ghost train is never on a wing for long enough to really know who controls what. Everyone has some sort of little fiddle going on but as an example, cellphone-as-a-service is a big one but do you think the person who runs that scam ever physcally holds an illegal cell-phone. Of course not, they get some muppet to take the risk. But said muppet WILL keep their mouth shut if (when) caught.

But surely if Brands paying off the Daddy of the prison Daddys not gonna have some toerag attack him and possibly see him moved to another prison.

NO.

I keep on repeating that the ghost train isn't just to protect the convict. It's to prevent a convict making things easier for themselves by the disbursing money. Convicts are ghosted or segragated for their own safety but the ghost train is an antirely different concept.

There is NO 'mr big' who, as a convict, controls an entire HMP, let alone multiple prisons. Sure, there are hard men on each wing but why do you think wings don't interact AT ALL? It's precicely so no single inmate however rich, however brutal, however well connected can gain such control. If they did, THEY would be ghosted.

So ghosting means what it says. Prisoners are just summoned to the wing office and told to pack up their things immediately. Hence my detailing how all personal items have a VOLUME limit which last I heard was Two standard volumetric control boxes: Each box measures 70cm x 55cm x 25cm with a maximum total weight of 15kg.

The SYSTEM may have descided days or even WEEKS in advance to ghost a prisoner but the prisoners and even the wing office are given almost no notice whatsoever. A prisoner is not informed where they are being moved TO, so there is no way anyone could sort out payoffs in advance.

THIS is called the 'ghost train' i.e. frequently moving a high profile (read 'high risk') inmate randomly between HMPs and wings of those HMPs.

I think some people watch too much TV. Don't you think the prison system KNOWS from direct experience of every little scam that goes on? Inmates really are masters of finding ways around new regulations. Sometimes it's really impressive, but anyone who controls even the most profitable scams inside is making only a fraction of what they made on the outside. Most will use muppets wherever possible BUT serving an extra year (or more) for being caught means they have to balance the risk/benefit.

Now full-life tariff prisoners can be a bit different. Some go for everything legit to get enhanced, a decent job and the possibility of working outdoors (for example). As they get older and are considered to present less of a threat they can at least get moved down from a cat A to a B to a C and have at least some freedom.

But equally you do get violent psychopaths who I strongly suspect are also mentally ill who will take on anyone and anything. Those are the ones who would totally ignore any 'protection' a hard man might pretend they can offer. It took 8 years for them to kill Ian Watkins but they did it. Those people are the ones who if professed a wish to harm RB (but crucially hadn't acted yet) could see RB ghosted. After all, from the perspective of the system, a threat would allow someone to be kept on the ghost train and even if a complaint were made, could point to the fact threats had been made.

Talk to someone who has spent time in a cat A. It's more that each convict has to figure out how the barter system works, what resources and skills (if any) they have and crucially, how they can make their own time as easy as possible. I'm sure they will also have some lurid stories of seeing someone being flasked and/or plugged and/or striped. Violence is very common. It's as simple as a micro-environment in which every single person is figuring out how to mug every other person in some way.

How do you explain ian watkins tho? - in the same prison for 8 years in general population - he only got attacked twice. Wasnt the story he got killed when he refused to pay somebody? He might have been paying off half the prison - who'se gonna touch him?

You've seen that film of him being killed? He's just walking round in general population without a care in the world. He's doing that purely from studying kung fu?

Its the one chance any of them will ever get to earn more money in an hour than they've ever earned in their entire poxy lives and they're just gonna attack him instead? Are they really that simple?

Sometimes a strongly reinforced commitment to a code (anti chil killer / anti rapist for example) can easily override any possible financial gain or indeed any threat.

There's many examples of 'target' prisoners being seriously attacked by other prisoners who didn't know them and were fast approaching the end of their sentences etc (ie had a lot to lose)

Maybe but if he's a millionaire and he's paying off my mothers mortgage - if I suspect some toerag is going to attack him I'm going to go nutty sutty on his ass 😂

Child rapist. Crimes against kids make a prisoner untouchable. Nobody would TAKE his money.

Someone already asked me about IT, I already replied.

Go read.

Yeah - that band he was in was pobably something we would have loathed equally if we had ever heard them ;-)

But in all seriousness you are right @Ismene2 - a WELSH paedo, the WORST KIND of paedo!

I wonder if there will ever be a 'best of' album?

On a related topic, UK prisons do offer convicts the chance of writing and performing music and the IEP programme allows them to possess one instrument that is typically NOT included in the 15Kg limit on personal posessions. I didn't know that until I checked - so how about that, we live and learn.

Choices often include a nylon-string acoustic guitar, harmonica, recorder, or flute, along with sheet music

God help us all if RB 'goes acoustic' and records an 'unplugged' set. Being a muppet, I bet you the cnut demands a sitar!

Well according to some media reports Russell is "struggling with the food". Not difficult to predict. Nevermind Russ, plenty of time for you to get used to it hopefully.

Oh, and also, ambulances were called to his new des-res today...which is more than likely an almost daily occurrence and probs nothing to do with Russ
