Meth detox - when life won’t let you rest?

Sadly I let myself go down the slippery slope. It got me through a rough time though. Now it’s time to detox and get back to a normal life.
I need to factor in that I have kids, a job and a large property to maintain….. I can’t just sleep when I need to etc.

Having been on 1g a day on average; sometimes more….

It’s only been 6 months of daily use, probably started around 2p a day now up to 1g….
Should I start on a taper?

What’s the easiest way to do this without sleeping a couple of weeks and barely able to uphold day to day life?

Last time I was in this position was early 2000s. I had no responsibilities and was able to lose the 2-3 weeks for resting before feeling somewhat human again.

All advice welcomed!

Actually I have a question when u detox off meth do u just crash and sleep for days? That's what I assume happens, I'm a heroin person so I don't know.

I don't believe there is much physical withdrawal, but I haven't done g a day for 6 months before, less amount than that. So I wouldn't lose any more sleep over trying to taper, if I were you I'd try to adjust the mindset - think about the kids. Think about the future. Stop using for the moment and sleep. You will feel better. If when you wake up you're not ready to quit, try making a deal for your family to just use less, and less until you are fully present for the people who matter to you. Seems like you want to abstain, so hold on to that feeling. And know that you can feel good sober too but it's just more work and takes more time to build up to.

I wouldn't say sleep for "days" but definitely will sleep and eat. The difficult part is coping with the dopamine drain. And rebuilding a life that was likely neglected in lots of meaningful ways.

Yeah I would agree and say there’s not really a physical withdrawal. More like having major brain lag whilst trapped in some kind of poisonous fog

Hey @Jackstatsslut :)

First of all, I love the name. I'm sure there is a great little anecdote behind it. You'll have to tell me sometime. Anyway, this is a difficult situation. I, myself can actually relate on a personal level with your situation. I am currently working two jobs due to the increases in the cost of living (Vegas is bullshit also). I have also made the decision to withdraw from Methadone maintenance. I became concerned about the longevity of the maintenance programs as I saw the world approaching insanity. I did not want to be tied to such a thing should I need to move and survive. How do you manage chronic withdrawal from Opioids when you're already feeling like you're ready to break? It's not a easy situation, but I've been managing it, so can you.

Your intake is moderate-heavy, but I don't need to tell you that. You have been through the withdrawal process in the past and you're familiar with what happens to your body and mind. You pay back all of that stimulation with an equal and opposite amount of eating and sleeping. You are going to owe a pretty significant sleep debt getting out of this. You also have to manage your work (family?) life while dealing with a genera reduction in your physical and mental capabilities.

First off, the easy route involves taking time off from work. You are better off to accept that you owe some sleep and find a strategic time to get that sleep back. If you are asking what I believe is your best chance of success, remember, I'm just a fucking dude on the internet, here it is:

You find a way to get 3-5 days off from work however you have to. Tell them you have COVID. Say someone died. I'm not about lying, but we are trying to do something positive for you without ruining your life, so the collateral damage is acceptable IMO.

You finish your last shift. You immediately start the sleep process. Zero Methamphetamine intake. You're going to sleep, eat nutritious food, pop some vitamins, hydrate with some electrolytes (fuck Gatorade, make your own. Ask if you need help with that) and pump as much recovery into that time as you possibly can.

The end of your little break is where we reach a fork in the road. I'd like to know what you have available to you. If you're able to get a hold of some Amphetamine pills of any kind, tell me so we can make a plan. We're going to wake up early on your first day back and figure out how much Amphetamine you need to be functional. You are going to commit to a week of being a pretty useless employee, doing only as much as you're able to. If people give you trouble, reference the dead person again; tell them they're violating HIPAA by even asking you, figure it out.

You're going to finish your shitty week of work. You're going to then find a way of extending your weekend by a day or two. Come up with something. Your life is in the balance. You need to find the time to get better but also not lose your job so use your head. You're going to repeat the same process as before, no Amphetamine for the several day period.

You're going to repeat the same process as before, though with a much smaller intake of Amphetamine. We are going to decide what is needed and what is reasonable together and you will have to be responsible and stick to it. Following another week of work, you can spend another weekend without Amphetamines. Ideally, you will be able to enter the following week of work with minimal to no Amphetamine intake. If you ask me to shoot from the hip, I'd love to see you taking 20mg Amphetamine per day by this point with an eye on zero.

This is a rough plan. It depends on a few variables. Tell me what you have available to you in terms of drugs. Do you have a person in your life you can trust to help you through this? I consider your success to be infinitely more likely if you have a trusted person who can hold your Amphetamine and dole it out. It is an extremely difficult situation for you to manage a taper yourself.

Let me know what you think. I'll do my best for you, I promise. You are capable of getting through this. You're gonna have to give up on this shit and start believing in something better. I'm one person, but I'll help you as best I can.

I know very little from personal experience to tell you, but it seems like if you do decide to do some sort of taper or reduction, it might help to change your ROA to taking it orally rather than smoking or whatever you are presently doing. Less fiendish, more prolonged smoother effects so perhaps it would help reduce the re-dosing problem? Ideally you would just take it early in the day so that it gets you through your obligations while giving you time to wind down and sleep well (which you really NEED) I am partly thinking this approach because you may not have access to any other type of amps, so substituting might not be an option. But it seems like a big ask to have that discipline, so just biting the bullet and stopping is probably what you really need. I'll let other people with more knowledge chime in.
Good luck

When I go through full opiate wds after being on a long bender I'll sleep so hard I won't even notice a whole day went by that eventually turns into a few days of just on and off sleeping.

Physical withdrawal is childs play its just the motherfucking cravings.
You know, I never had cravings after I kicked ice. I was an opiate addict, then replaced my opiate addiction with good ol meth for a short time before I kicked hard drugs completely. Opiate cravings had my soul by the pussy, that’s for sure. If I hopped in a Time Machine to 2016, that version of me would be in total disbelief that there would eventually come a day where we wake up in the morning free of cravings, free of the monkey.

What was your dose when you decided to withdraw from methadone maintenance? I did that too. I believe I had gotten myself all the way down to 30mg, then hopped off.

That's a one of the reasons I started getting off methadone because I had got so complacent on in it and what would happen if everything just stopped a pandemic, hurricane something where I couldn't get my dose, I would be completely unable to take care of myself or move for a few days. I know someone who was on methadone during Katrina and they had to walk through the flood while sick.

no meth cravings? thats interesting, shows how much of a downer person you are. Meth cravings are supposed to be insanely difficult to withstand

I've never been able to taper down. If you can well kudos to you. The fight is mostly mental, you'll get cravings/depression etc for a good while. Best to ride it out if you can.
