Megathread What Are You Listening To? XXXI: Kiely’s Revenge

What does this mean? 🤔

Telt = told with added telling off

telt

IPA: UK: /tɛlt/; US: /tɛlt/

Transitive Verb

  1. English (Dialectal/Scots/Geordie): The simple past tense and past participle of the verb "to tell". It is used to indicate that information has been shared or that someone has been rebuked (e.g., "That's you telt!").

I do love Bob Dylan's Slow Train Coming album. It has 2 blinding gems of songs, among the first 3 tracks, (Precious Angel, I Believe In You), and then there's this interesting penultimate track too!

The better the stereo you listen to this on, the better this track sounds, which as obvious as it may sound, isn't always the case!? Such a nice instrumental groove going on!

Dylan asked Mark Knopfler to play lead guitar for him on this album, after having heard Sultans of Swing!

Regarding this particular track, I love Dylan's mysterious refusal to complete the the final line of the final verse, by not naming the creature to which he's apparently clearly referring, and the rhyme format has created a seemingly obvious set up for such naming, and completing the track but No!

Why did he do that!? Was he thinking of one particular person, and thought it would irk them even more if he called them a snake, without actually calling them a snake? :ROFLMAO: Am I reading too much into it!?

It's just so much more intriguing that he did not name the creature, and causes all sorts of interpretations?

Almost certainly Dylan's most different or atypical album, and although some critics loved it, many hated it, I think because it was clearly a product of his "religious phase", which garnered much derision and snobbery.

I don't care too much about the religious aspect one way or another tbh, and I'm certainly not influenced by the critics, although maybe my contrarian nature likes it even more because the critics didn't care for it, on the whole.

It's also Nick Cave's favourite album of all time, which is quite something imho!

My dog used to HATE the fly buzzing back and forth in stereo on this song. She'd run back and forth snapping at the speakers 😆
