He asked me to write this for him because he smoked way too much way too quickly, and he’s been completely disoriented and in a huge panic for the past 10 minutes. I’ve tried everything I can think of to calm him down.

He wants to take his medication for his panic attacks (it’s a benzo, but I can’t remember which one).

Should I let him take it like for any other panic attack ? Will it help him calm down while the weed wears off? I really don’t know whether I should give it to him while he’s this panicked, but nothing is calming him down. From what I’ve read, the main risk of mixing the two is making him extremely drowsy, and that benzodiazepines can be effective in this situation.
I really don’t know what to do.

Hey there, you’ve definitely come to the right place! 💙 If the benzo is prescribed to him, he should take it to help relieve his anxiety. As directed by his doctor, of course. I’d have him take it easy and stay somewhere safe, as the combined effects could make him very drowsy.

I’ve been there myself when I was younger and smoking weed. Sometimes the anxiety can get REALLY intense, but it will pass. Just stay calm with him, reassure him that he’s okay, and remind him that he’s not in danger just because he’s feeling anxious. ❤️

If he becomes extremely difficult to wake, has trouble breathing, or becomes severely confused, that’s when I’d get medical help.

only other thing to suggest would be things like breathing exercises (deep in through the nose and slowly out through the mouth), dim the lights, relaxed music, things to distract him, close proximity and/or physical contact can help reassure though be ready to back off if it has the opposite effect.

laying down in a darkened room can help too.

it might just be as simple as a panic attack, very common, reassure him that lots of us have been there, it won't last too long in reality.

Thanks you🙏

He took his medication at the dose he normally takes during a regular panic attack. I ordered him some food while we wait for it to pass.

He’s still stressed, but being able to take his medication and knowing that it should start working soon is helping him a lot.

Thank you again.

Awesome! That’s another thing I forgot to mention, food! It can help sober him up and get him back to the right place. You’re a good friend 🥰

@mazse

He can take the benzo for sure

Get your friend to A) Become aware of his feet on the floor B) To make his outbreath twice as long as his inbreath for maybe 6 breath cycles (6 in 6 out) C) Name 4 things he can see, 4 things he can hear, 4 things he can smell, a couple of things he can feel via touch, and see how he is then

this is pass just like anything else. breathing in and out and remembering all your senses. go through all your senses, what you're seeing, hearing, feeling, touching, etc and remark on them. it will pass.

This is actually very good advice. I should try this myself, next time I feel a panic attack coming on. I’ve never heard of the naming 4 things, but that’s genius.

My man...its weed, you wont die, you know its a panic attack, you have benzos specefically for this and if youre asking if you should take one you probably know the answer. Calm down, take a hot shower, then as cold as u can stand to shock yourself that on its own will probably do the trick. Get up and do something, try a hot beverage, humming, smell isopropyl alcohol dont ask why it just helps, helps nausea too, sometimes. You'll be alright it'll pass in an hour if it hasn't already. It also helps if youre near any woods to go.walk barefoot in the trees or just grass if that's all you got but being around the trees is.much more soothing and For future reference, get some thianene and passion flower extract or tea to try before taking the benzos as they should be used as seldom as possible
