💥 Contest 💥 The Money Saving Thread

Oh yea we bought our house and car in cash so we are not saddled with payments to the bank ---

HOWEVER instead we have the county circling and land barons ( I know thats an 1800s thing but it still happens rurally ) trying to suck the property up evertime we a week or two overdue on bills.

Idk if that worked out net positive or negative but its a good plan on paper....

Nice Hawkins walking boots are solid AF. I got a pair of armani winter boots and gucci hi tops sneakers (made in Italy not the offshoot shite) --- and bruno magli italian oxfords and swiss balle loafers. (the last two were used though and more for 'nostalgia') OJ wore bruno magli's when he did or did not kill his wife and it left a distinct print "Who was the guy with the expensive italian shoes" --- and John Gotti wore bally loafers when he got made.

The balles were straight from goodwill, I got no pride lol

Stopped vaping, 20 bucks a week aint nothing.

Live half off the grid and use propane so one less utility; although they just jacked the price up for economic reasons that are no mystery to me.... Have a well so no water bill either.

umm a pocket knife can lock any door (see youtube) without leaving damage unless someone really shoulers into it...

If you still running a CRTV for whatever reason (PS2) always unplug that shit when you aren't using it or it will constantly pull electricity -- was 100 bucks a month roughly assuming it off for 12 hours back in 04' (at whatever our local rate was at the time YMMV)

weed is absolutely cheaper and better than it ever has been, same with hash....MIdwest -- spend less than half of what I did when it was blackmarket.

Go magnet fishing and copper stripping if it is legal? Invest your money somewhere better than the bank and never trust any of those fucks.... Im out of advice and no im not magnet fishing or stripping copper, pretty sure both are illegal and positive they are not worth my time. (YMMV, beats collecting cans probably) -- Think I have maximized frugality pretty well though haha

Haha anyone knows how to dryclean at home tell me im about ready to play with toxic chemicals rather than to keep paying the local drycleaner who charges so much I literally only see uniforms there. (write offs) Only game it town type deal and I wear suits so fuck me....

sounds pretty sweet, though i have to admit, they made some really really good video games in the last 20 years since the ps2
 
^Absolutely true and I am missing out on those. (Kind of an ignorance is bliss situation though) Just running the CRTV is gunna be the cost of a new console at some point.

When/If they get the newer shite into a working trusted retrobox I may grab it.... If I ever feel limited by the ps2 (which I could see happening after one day at a friends or w/e lol)

I am interested to see if gta6 will be as great as they have all but bet the farm on...

cutting back or stopping some substances completely has saved our little village a ton of cash. i dont know how or why this happened but i am agog grateful for it.

also: if ya disabled, retired or old enough in the USA ya can get internet for 15usd a month from xfinity/comcast. as opposed to 200+usd they rake in from the unknowing easy victims.
with internet ya need nothing else but a little tech savviness.

maybe i make a list of shit we saved money on and come back. cool thread, imo.

and also buying online instead of payin 3x as much in a brick and mortar.

Hello!! I do not have any tech saviness whatsoever but I am cheap as fuck and qualify can ya put me on some game here?

Im payin 110 for internet and the jenkyest landline I have ever seen --- like i said about 75% success, 0 % to some places that dont matter too much like my doctor and the pharmacy.....only works through a modem in my room, bad weather no phone, hence most emergencies....no phone

ANYONE know how to get that 15 buck a month landlind lmk!! -- actually i think im payin 99 for internet and 10 for phone, id pay the extra 5 if it plugged into the phone jacks in the house and wasnt reliant on internet. (Which it probably is, hell i prolly already got the deal lol) --- Still for everyones purposes let us know---- and tell us if there is any catch as often comes with ANY GOV BENEFIT. (Hence Omerta when possible -- meaning avoid gov assistance of any kind; not im some kind of gangster to be clear)

Very difficult to answer as every apparently knowledgeable person seems to have a different view.

Someone I was listening to yesterday said that it probably wont make you rich, but will provide stability if/when everything else goes tits up.

But earlier in the video, they had said that gold had done extremely well over recent times, with 90% growth IIRC. So I really do not know what to make of gold.

I'm just going to keep Pound Cost Averaging my way into mainly low cost globally diversified index funds and ETFs. Although my time horizon is steadily shrinking, hopefully I should still have enough time to withstand one crash, and wait for the recovery and subsequent growth, as has always happened previously, before I retire.

Most people seem to agree that the chances of a 20 year severe doldrum like in the great depression of the 1920s is extremely unlikely to happen again, and most crashes seems to be recovering quicker and quicker, over recent times.

Things have been doing pretty well. Like everyone, I only wish I'd had more money to put in, which would have seen the amount of the growth increase a lot more.

But I'm thankful for the growth I have enjoyed, and have taken some profit, and put it into something safer than ETFs that could crash at any time, for an unkown length of time.
 
gold is always a good investment if you can afford to hold it.

the us dollar has devalued 99% compared to gold in the last 100 years and we printin debt in the US. The A.I bubble gunna crash unless they can find a real world use for all of us with it real fuckin quick.

Id link it but do a google it is a mathematical fact and I have linked it before.
 
As far as saving money goes, one of my favorites is drying clothes on the line. I don't know why none of my neighbors do it. Saves gas/electricity cost, saves wear and tear on clothes, you don't wear out your clothes dryer, and it's good for the environment. Even if the weather only permits getting them partly dry, you still save some.
Added bonus: it's a fun game to try to do it even in the rainy season. I'm pretty good at looking at forecasts and waiting for dry days, but I admit some places are wetter than where I live.
PS and washing with cold water is cheaper, gentler on the clothes, and does perfectly fine for most things
 
Not short term; maybe. Bet it does better than bluechip or w/e this year --- mid term like 2 decades I bet you do alright. "Mid term" means different things depending on how much assets you have and how old/patient you are.

On the other hand it almost feels like buying gold is betting against the US dollar (as an american especially) and again since I know our current situation is "In decline" to "Rapidly falling apart" and propped up by a stock market that is not indicative of reality here......so betting against the dollar feels like a no lose to me. (There I said it, again I think)

the only reason im even considering this.
not for immediate gain... for using my trusty scales to chip pieces to trade for a meal or two if needed.
manual labor skills will be even more valuable than gold in my estimation. how would one rebuild if there are only phone warriors?
tech will be useless imo. at least for a while and we go back trough the cycle again if we make it through this.
so soft and hard species at once these humanoids....

wish i woulda started this when i was spending hundreds of thousands a year on drugs and shit. smdh. that i regret. but on the other hand i couldnt be trusted with anything of value when younger.... nothing had any.

and yeah its more for her state of mind (she loves gold as an asset - thats what thais do) cause to be perfectly honest i couldnt give two fucks. actually waiting on it and becoming impatient. :p

I've definitely noticed that stuff that I've burned to CD or DVD myself has massively deteriorated in quality, and that was within the space of ten years!

I would have hoped that genuine, properly manufactured, original DVDs and CDs would have much longer lifespans, and in my experience I have not noticed any problems with DVDs and CDs, some of which that I have owned for 20-30 years or more.

But I do take your point, and I certainly wouldnt bank on anything in this format remaining perfectly preserved forever. Plus I have not tested all of my CDs and DVDs as I don't currently have a quick and easy convenient way of playing them.

For all it's advantages, long term storage of digital content seems to be something that has no cheap solutions. There's no way I'm paying fucking Google every month to store my stuff on their cloud, it's not just the cost, but the total lack of privacy too.

I've also already experienced that data stored on 'disk and platter' external hard drives deteriorates as badly and as quickly as self burned DVDs.

I've recently started using Crucial SSD external hard drives, and apparently it can be a disastrous error just to leave them in a drawer for years untouched, thinking your data will be perfectly preserved. Chances are it won't be.

But I heard that regularly connecting up these drives is a pretty good insurance against data loss or deterioration.

I rotate the couple of drives I have, so that one of them is always connected up.

Inspiration came from our broadband contract (which happened to be with Virgin and was previously very reasonably priced) was up and the first month of the implied new contract jumped to fukkin sixty fukkin quid a fukkin month 8o

After a little research we’ve decided to switch to Sky for around 24 pound a month. If we’d just caught it before the contract ended we’d’ve saved over thirty quid :!

I've been struggling with this dilemma all of my life.

But now that Im older and wiser, I realise that the only way to save money, is to not spend any... :\

(BTW, vinyl, if stored correctly, is probably the only mass produced media that can survive an EMP event)
