Harm Reduction How to enhance & accelerate L-Tryptophan conversion to Serotonin?

I know there are some cofactors like Vitamin B6 and Niacin that claim to speed up the process of converting L-Tryptophan to serotonin.

Back in 2007, my holistic doctor prescribed 2,000 mg of L-Tryptophan to me every evening. It worked pretty well for almost 3 years until I had a Tetanus shot because I cut my hand.

I plan on buying NAC (N-Acetylcysteine), Full Vitamin B-Complex, Vitamin B12, Zinc, and manganese.

Good way to cause issues. I'm all for a holistic approach but 2g of tryptophan is excessive and ill-advised. Here's an outline of some signs of abnormally elevated serotonin:
  • Neuromuscular hyperactivity: hyperkinesia (unwanted movements), tremor, hyperreflexia (overresponsive bodily reflexes)
  • Autonomic hyperactivity: diaphoresis (easy sweating), hyperthermia (high core body temperature), tachycardia (high heart rate), tachypnoea (rapid breathing)
  • Altered mental status: characterised by ‘over-arousal’, agitation, ‘mania’

What is the daily maximum that you would recommend taking?

Since this is a harm reduction forum, zero tryptophan is the safest recommended dose.

I didn't know that the L-tryptophan supplement is so dangerous.

Do you mind listing your sources that say this supplement is harmful?

I think it is not dangerous if used in a right way. It can be dangerous because it actually works and too much serotonine can really cause serotonine syndrome which is range of symptoms from mild to severe for example sweating, huge pupils, fast heartbeat, opposite of relax muscles, mania, high body temperature, death. But severe cases usually requires somebody to take for example ssri + something that raise serotonine levels in other way like serotonine releaser or even heavy doses of tryptophan and everything required for making serotonine of that ingested tryptophan possible. Or tramadol is great example of s.syndrome causing medication because it is at the same time ssri ( snri but it doesnt matter, that sri part is important ) and serotonine releasing agent at the same time. And this coupled with raised noradrenaline and lowered seizure treshold cause of the way how opioids acts on gaba to cause indirect dopamine release made tramadol one of the most likely triggers of serotonine syndrome and seizure activity.

But back to l-tryptophan. If u don't take any other serotonergic meds, not even herbal ones than it really should not cause trouble if taken in doses up to 3 grams or 3000mg.

If Tramadol is an SSRI, then can Tramadol cause the same side effects? Like the 1999 Columbine Massacre was blamed on Eric Harris's usage of Luvox (an SSRI). Can we expect such destructive behaviour from Tramadol? (Even though the drug companies conveniently forgot to list them on the bottle)?

It is different cause of opioid and SRA component but i experienced common opioid rage on it often

I always find the stat that mass shooters were on antidepressants to be pretty prosaically explained. Most mass shooters exhibit enough outward mental issues to require treatment. The treatment is ineffective, and tragedy happens.

I think the implication that these were just average depressed people who took an SSRI which made them homicidal is lacking.

Thanks, I value your input.
