Dosing Smoking two ounces+ a week lately

So things have gotten out of hand for me a tad. I have smoked daily for about 15 years with minimal breaks. In the last 5 years especially I have gone harder, only when going on holiday have I really had multiple days of no smoking - until I find a dealer that is, which is usually days or a week at most.

I'm in my 30's and no health problems, but I do cough more than I'd like when smoking weed(although not every time). Lately I have been smoking 2 ounces every 5-7 days. I do this in the form of spliffs. A 20 pack of cigarettes will last me about 2 ounces in terms of tobacco to weed ratio. so 20g~ tobacco to 60g~ of weed or there abouts.

Unfortunately for me, I don't have ordinary barriers like most people do to prevent this situation. I can afford all the weed I'd ever want, I don't work/am retired and the 'me' without weed is a hazard to myself and society. I become confrontational and my already high risk taking self goes into overdrive. Cars get crashed, fights break out, friends become foes. I just am incredibly irate, unable to focus, and generally unsettled without weed. I know I have some kind of ADHD stuff going on and I'm definitely autistic. In saying all this - I become a superman version of myself when I haven't smoked weed for a few days/week if I can lock in(big if) I can achieve things in hours that would normally take days or weeks. I can see amazing opportunity, I can see so much more 'clearly' in every way and act on it in a meaningful way- but at the cost of being emotionally unstable and easily distracted and basically a volatile hazard to everyone around them including myself.

So, I take the easier road to deal with. I smoke shit loads of weed. Its less productive - I don't have great business ideas that I act on, I don't really make any 'progress' in life as most would think of it. I become anti social and don't bother with friends and family. I stagnate but I'm no longer a 'risk'. However.. 2 ounces a week(well, I run out before the week is up) is just too much smoking. I am waking up feeling very tired - I don't really have energy at any point of the day. My mental clarity peaks at about midnight to 3am. Anything I need to organize/plan/do in my life that requires real thinking is done in these hours. Also, I don't think I even feel weed at this point. The first spliff of the day would always hit me and I'd really feel it - now its just to get me out of the agitated state I wake up in.

I really need help. This is not sustainable. I don't really know what to do. I feel like I legit need a professional and to be put on some kind of less fucked up/disruptive drug, something more 'in between' these two states of mine. However I also worry about ever divulging this to someone in that regard - even though medical weed is legal here I basically got cut off by my weed doctor and they only prescribe me one ounce a month now. I feel like a psychiatrist would just think I'm a druggie wanting more drugs.

i smoke about an ounce and a half every two weeks at this point. i won't be able to forever, i just have the opportunity to because it's cheap and i live with my parents.. i have to say, it doesn't really feel sustainable for the lungs to keep up smoking that much weed. i think that is something to think about. if i didn't know i was gonna have to cut down when i move, i wouldn't be indulging like i am.

if you are having problems dealing with out weed and can't use in moderation and want to seek medication from a psychiatrist, i would say the psychiatrist would be a huge jerk not to take the description of your health seriously, but i hear all sorts of stories about dick quack docs on the internet that don't help people correctly... you might want to wait and get some more responses with people with more experience when trying to figure out how to deal with a doctor. i really don't know what you should say, but i would say some doctor out there would take your description very seriously and want to help you with your addiction. it sounds like you are having a rough time.

wishing you luck and hoping you get some more detailed responses from other posters.

Thank you for your words. I guess that is kinda what I'm asking here - how do I navigate this. I have the absolutely worst luck with doctors and still have not figured out how to navigate around them. One of my biggest weaknesses is communicating/working with people where there is an imbalance of power. I like to be on equal ground. The only boss I've ever been able to get along with is myself. Doctors in my experience have crazy egos and dislike independent thought.

Example: I recently have been having bad bowel movements since coming back from south america. Had worms appear in the toilet, took OTC antiparasitic but am quite sure I have other parasites in me from extensive travelling in not so clean countries around the world. Cannot get proper antiparasitic drugs that would deal with ones I got in other countries OTC...and despite literally being in dozens of countries in the last couple of years - many with zero health standards and known issues with parasites - despite literally shitting out worms - they would not prescribe me anything and I have to give them a sample of my shit? Like fuck sakes man... even if I didn't have other parasites, its not going to hurt to just do a round regardless out of caution given where I have been.

And I feel like I'm being fucked with because its so hard for me to remember to shit in that sample thing, its been 2 weeks. I feel like he knew I'd struggle with this and its an easy way to reduce load on our medical system...

Anyway sorry for being gross its just recent and on my mind. You are right though, this is not sustainable on my lungs. I am 'fit and healthy' looking but my stamina is terrible and tobacco isnt great to be smoking unfiltered especially in any amount...

I usually go through two ounces in two or so weeks, but I'm blasting mine with butane and am smoking the oil. That is a lot of flower to be smoking, I'll say.

It sounds like the issues your use leads to could be addressed without quitting entirely. Using less is an option. Or consider another ROA, I certainly don't recommend spliffs unless you want to smoke weed and not get high.

I would agree it is not sustainable to be buying that much. If I weren't growing I certainly couldn't afford it.

You should be beating yourself up for the tobacco use instead.

Switch to oral. It's both more potent and easier to control. I get pretty much as high on 1/6 of the amount or less.

Vaping is better too. I prefer a nicotine style vape with vape juice. Mix pure THC 50/50 with PG and maybe some terps.

Two bags a week is purely grotesque, at least for normal persons like me. But it appears to be yet another extreme situation, so either economics will fix that soon, or you could use this money to have a change of consumption and ritual motivated by a translation of your focus toward aroma/taste appreciation, since it's most likely the chase for an ultimate buzz no longer makes sense anyway. If that fails at least you'd cut your expenditures by nearly half while giving yourself an opportunity to spare those lungs...

I hope you find some respite and recovery and healing dude, this all sounds really tricky. I dabbed (or ate) 2-3.5 grams of THC every day for about 3 years when I was younger, and oral dosing was always the best RoA. Maybe switching to strictly oral dosing of cannabis would help for you, just a guess I'm throwing out there.

I dont want to scare you, but that is too much smoking..

I had a friend who would smoke 4-16 oz's every month for years, he ended up passing away from esophogeal cancer. It caught up to him VERY quickly. I am 90% that it had to do with his cannabis use.

I am 90% that it had to do with his cannabis use.

The operating keyword here is "use". It would be easy for me to second that if employed alone, but such automatic association with cannabis is quite another story considering it ditches away the mechanical causes like chronic inflammation, since use can lead to abuse and hence my suggestion to at least try to modify the method of abuse...

qft both the above - definitely very dangerous levels of smoking and the ways to apply harm reduction to the scenario

90%+ of medium/heavy smokers I know/ have known over 60 years old develop bad respiratory issues. No joke whatsoever. Have felt the need to pretty much switch 90% cannabis consumption to oral myself lately for same reason. Wish I'd done it earlier but better late than never

Yeah when I found myself breathing like a broken accordion as I went to sleep at night, I found that dabbing like that was fundamentally not worth it. Besides, edibles are more fun anyways.

Back in the day when Dabs were "new" I had a roommate that would do 100mg dabs every day, multiple times a day. One day, he starts coughing up blood. The idiot did not stop dabbing and he kept coughing up blood, for days. Finally we convinced him to go see a doctor who told him he likely tore his lung. Of course he stopped bleeding when he stopped dabbing. Anyway I don't really dab because a) it's more than I need and b) I don't think our lungs like being coated in oils.

Ah, see dabs are far kinder to me than flower is. Flower is extremely harsh, feels like I'm inhaling broken glass or sand if that makes sense. Dabs are just thick air, it feels like a normal breath of the atmosphere but a little more concentrated. If you're sucking down a red hot fattie that's like ten trillion degrees off some redneck's hotknife it'll be brutal obviously. I usually use an enail but spent years wielding simply a butane (or occasionally map gas) torch. Map gas torches can turn a quartz nail into a pile of liquid fucking glass though, absolutely beware that. I have video evidence of not a single cough or inclination towards coughing on dabs that I showed on the scale to be over 1.75g, I'm not sure why they play nice with my body whereas flower is absolutely fucking brutal. Smoking a blunt feels like trauma, doing a dab feels like taking a breath.

If you can afford two ounces and it keeps you out of trouble (From what I inferred) I would say if it is not broke don't fix it?

Vape pens so you can accomplish more as you smoke?

*Edit* Yea inhaling hot smoke of any kind at that rate probably does become a health issue. Vaping concentrate is not smoking still ...--- what are the health effects of vaped rosin? (No studies done alone id guess)

I can see the dab thing happening I remember (being told) that when I lived in NM there was a dry period and all you could find was hash and they had to put anouncements on the radio that it expands in your lungs cuz fools were getting hospitalized. I use a usb nectar collectar deal and it vapes dabs, but sometimes they get sucked into the tube and burn.

Question -- How many people here know people who had respiratory issues that pot/hash was the MAIN causation? (In your opinion) Please share your anectdotes

Any first hand experiences? Feels like there should be and in 10 20 years if I dont alter I should have a good first hand report...

Like they didnt smoke cigs also, drink, work in horrid conditions ....

Genuinely interested sounds like more than I thought / higher chance than I was planning for? What happened to this bronchiodialotor stuff lol (Was it vasodialotor I forget)

I'd assume similar to distillate? This certainly does appear to be understudied to an extreme degree though. I've noticed that rosin & flower are better for antiinflamatory/antiallergenic effects, distillate is virtually ineffective in that regard for me at least.

I can't find any evidence of hash "expanding" peoples' lungs, that would be some wild shit if it was true. Do people also not tend to just eat hash in NM? I wonder if there was contaminated hash circulating too, I know some dumbass rednecks used to add pine tar to it to try to alter its characteristics and as some fucked up take on a "cutting agent".

Cannabis exhibits some vasodilation, for me it increases my capacity to blow on a peak flow meter (thing used to measure respiratory capacity for asthmatics and the sort) because it exhibits a really intense effect of combatting allergies. Pollen, heat/cold, cat hair/dandruff and sudden bursts of exercise can trigger it, but if I smoke at least once or twice a week, just a couple hits, it doesn't happen. My old primary care doc said that I wasn't her only patient to experience this, and that she had no idea why it occurred but as she said, "if it works, keep doing it".
