Article about DEA allowing Fentanyl to stay on the street, claiming it was needed for catching higher-up offenders

Completely agree with @Dr. John Thackery

i know it’s a crazy theory i have: “blame opioid policy change on those that control and legally enforce policy

no matter what happened whith addicts, doctors or the cartel; our government and LE had a choice whether to keep the opioid supply as pharmaceuticals or to eradicate pharmaceuticals from existence. they chose the latter. i am dumbstruck by how people think doctors, addicts, or patients forced the police
to make this policy change

wow not many people outside of informed chronic pain patients that really follow this stuff agree with me.

the less informed chronic pain patients blame drugs addicts themselves for the whole ordeal (drug addicts didn’t make the law enforcement crackdown that switched everyone from pills to fent, drug addicts didn’t institute manufacturing quotas against drug companies, doctors didn’t do that either - so im baffled at how people blame these powerless groups that have zero policy making power for the policy of eradicating pharmaceutical opioids from medical practice.

I will say this to whatever it speaks to -- I have seen a video of the cartel with many kilos, some heroin, some cut with fent --- They piled all the fent ones and said "These go to america".

The DEA certainly has a role to play here in the problem. Legalize, Regulate. Fent VANISHES -- or no new users are created at least.

The Cartel has a role to play in this Fent is fully synthetic (no poppy required) less bulky and more potent. Like when they switched from marijuana to cocaine, obvious choice. But marijuana never LEFT THE MENU.

Kind of a perfect storm of stupidity -- if you believe in such coincidences(?) -- More like "The war to choose what drugs are available and make it painful as possible in every way to go outside they system"

Its all fucked up

I’m looking for those studies you were referring to in another thread. The ones that looked at suicide etc due to that god awful policy change forced on prescribers and patients

it’s stated/referenced in the revised 2022 CDC opioid prescribing guidelines and also in the california opioid / benzo prescription guidlines that came out some time around the same time.

these guidlines explicitly state that “the removal of opioid therapy in chronic pain patients leads to increased fentanyl use, overdose deaths and suicide “

emphasis added for the things others ppl in this thread and website argue are not the result of prescription removals (enforced by the dea) but are instead the result of the sacklers gateway drugging ppl into fentanyl with magical oxy which is some special opioid that produced the fentanyl epidemic when all the other pharma opioids couldn’t

well the CDC says it’s the eradication of opioid prescriptions that causes increased fentanyl use and deaths; the CDC doesn’t say the sacklers lured everyone into some oxy to fentanyl pipeline like the mainstream media and government narritive says

as far as specific studies i don’t know off the top of my head but see if the CDC guideline revisions include the citations

i thought you were talking recently of published studies that were actually looking into the results in patients of that utter face plant?
so if you don’t believe the CDC spelling it out for you in their opioid prescribing guidelines here is the first hit that took me 5 seconds to pull up

Olivia et al. bmj 368, 2020

The interaction between stopping treatment with opioids and length of treatment was significant (P<0.001); stopping treatment was associated with an increased risk of death from overdose or suicide regardless of the length of treatment, with the risk increasing the

So funny that you say all this trash about government and that I trust the government... and then you try and show me some graph from the government...

Thats not ironic at all.

here’s what Scott Haland, chief of the Division of Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine at MassGeneral for Children and Harvard Medical School, who treats substance abuse among children and adolescents….. i’m sure you know better though.

again one of hundreds of hits from a 5 second google search like my above post to @neversickanymore

your claim seems to be that prescription cutoffs either never happened or don’t result in illicit drug use. your claim is that oxycodone use in particular out of all other opioids is a gateway drug to fentanyl. you’re going with the gateway drug theory for fentanyl.

"The sudden reduction in the number of opioids prescribed nationally probably contributed to more people using heroin and fentanyl, which almost certainly drove up our national overdose rates"

you guys just want to hate rich peole
and pharma companies so fucking badly you’ll believe the mainstream new’s slop and defend the DEA

i didn’t say these things Scott Haland did.

he’s the chief of the Division of Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine at MassGeneral for Children and Harvard Medical School, who treats substance abuse among children and adolescents….. i’m sure you know better though.
