Jim Mustian reported and co-wrote an Associated Press story that revealed the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration permitted hundreds of thousands of fentanyl pills to be distributed in New Mexico as part of an effort to build bigger federal prosecutions.
Mustian, along with AP journalist Joshua Goodman, reviewed hundreds of internal DEA records and interviewed current and former agents, including a whistleblower who claims his agency gambled with public safety and violated U.S. Justice Department rules about seizing the dangerous synthetic opioid.''
[David] Howell, a 19-year veteran of DEA, filed a formal whistleblower in late 2023 with the Office of Special Counsel, a government agency that protects whistleblowers. He submitted DEA reports, emails and text messages, including one in which colleagues discussed a 100,000-pill transaction they witnessed but chose not to stop.

DEA creates and worsens drug problems to justify their existence.

it’s not a coincidence that no other country on earth has a fentanyl epidemic.
So the DEA is the reason for fentanyl epidemic? It has nothing to do with over prescribing of oxycontin on a mass level or the fact that americans generally love drugs (and selling them)? I dunno man. Back before silk road days I stumbled onto a site selling a g of fent for a few hundred dollars and I knew right then and there it was going to be too tempting for some people to pass up.

Don't get me wrong I'm not a fan of the DEA and you're right that they really work to justify their own existence, but I think there's several factors as to why the USA is experiencing fentanyl worse than other countries.

i’m surprised that someone as k owledgable about drugs as you would buy the mainstream news and the government narritive. how often do these institutions tell the truth.

i’m not going to make the argument again because i’ve made it so many times on this forum. if you search my posts you should find it in multiple iterations. particularly the CDC overdose chart FIG. 4 by opioid that shows that as soon as the dea began prosecuting doctors en masse overdose deaths increased by 4X - all from fentanyl- within 6 months (late 2016). overdose deaths from pills were constant since the 90s and still are what they have always been.

there was no pill epidemic. they needed something worse to justify a crackdown and they needed a target weaker than criminals (ie doctors) to actually put up numbers for seizures / arrests. and make up for weed laws being diminished

i’ll add that plenty of countries have over the counter opioids or extremely easily to aquire opioids and they have no pill nor fentanyl epidemics

…or you can believe CNN and our uniparty corporate government that profits human misery, incarceration, and addiction. they made it worse so they could siphon more of your tax dollars away for a seemingly worthy cause and you are eating it hook line and sinker

^its proximity to Mexico??

The rest of the worlds also getting hit.. it’s going to get worse. It really comes down to the price and effort of production of fent compared to other opiates and traditional markets.

is it really? it seems like it’s only happening in US- like countries if it’s happening on some level there.

is there such an appetite for mind numbing drugs in other societies as there is in the US?

america is the perfect storm of weaknesses and exploits for its brutal corporatized government to enslave the population on a new way (fentanyl) and siphon trillions in tax dollars doing it.

we know they did this with crack. yet we doubt they would do it with fentanyl?

we just saw in the news this week that the dea knowning let tons of fentanyl flow onto american steeets.

but ppl want to keep blaming doctors tho (not necessarily you)

So i and others have been on this for over a decade…

This is just an outline.. for something specific..

Fentonal Webinar Outline

Short Introduction to BL
Mission Statement

Concept of “works to connect researchers with Bluelight's community of drug users to learn from their habits, techniques, and experiences.”
Personal introduction

Drug experiences focusing on opiate use dependency and recovery focusing on the early phase of the opiate crisis.

Work with Bluelight

Personal research into addiction (brief tied into personal experience)

Brief introduction to the opiate crisis

Overprescribing, the legal requirement to treat pain and briefly how this was created by Purdue Pharma, Smiley faces pain scale, and the scope of oxycontin that was produced and distributed and the money it generated.

Fact that Dr Sackler was a psychiatrist and that purdue only really produced one drug.

\The fact that Physicians and other medical professionals in the US are grossly undertrained in Substance use disorder and this created the dynamic that lead to the origins of the crisis and the terrible way the medical community chose to deal with it.

21 million Americans suffering from substance use disorders only around 3000 doctors trained in treatment
Concept of how professionals prescribing medications with high potentials for abuse have no training about substance use disorders or addiction.

Oxycontin was the third time medical professionals were fooled into believing opiate medication was less or not addicting. Go through the other occurrences and provide quote from last century when another wave of strong opiate use was clearly concerning people and medical professionals of that time.

Look at how they were fooled by Purdue Pharma into believing that Oxycontin was not or less addictive. Tie this into lack of education and training necessary to understand and safely prescribe medications with high instances of abuse.

Once the opiate crisis hit there were clear mistakes made by both medical professionals and regulators on how to deal with the crisis.
They treated both existing and new patients under the same plan. This caused them to try and reduce the current patient's amount of medication. Idea of tolerance, opiate induced analgesia. This leads to people running out early and seeking prescriptions early. This in turn caused them to be deemed high risk patients with an Opiate problem, drug seekers and they were unceremoniously dismissed from care and their medication refills were immediately stopped. Oftentimes they were placed on a State Controlled substances database as a drug seeker etc. Being placed in this system could get a patient black listed from obtaining any scheduled medication to treat their pain or alleviate their withdrawals. This caused a huge amount of people to go to the street to find their medication. Initially it was likely pills they were buying off the street, but the huge price of street pills and likelihood they were not always available led many to alternatives like heroin. The dealers were like I don’t have any pills, but I do have this. Addiction and physical dependence is a slippery slope and snorting and smoking leads to injecting for many people.

Physicians in the US often used the excuse that they are not trained to deal with substance use disorder or problems commonly associated with chronic opiate therapy. This is why they claimed it was appropriate to abruptly stop prescribing medications and often severed ties with their patients completely. Why aren’t physicians and other prescribers required to be properly trained in dealing with possible effects of the medications they prescribe and be held responsible to a reasonable extent to deal with the negative effects of medications they prescribe their patients? Why are they allowed to just bail when a patient shows signs of problems due to medications that have a high potential for abuse? In the US not only do they still do this but they are required to by law or risk their licenses to practice medicine.

The legal aspect of prescribing controlled substances in the US is flawed. Instead of prohibiting prescribers from issuing prescriptions to patients that have developed problems due to medications they have been prescribed. The prescribers should be held reasonably responsible for facilitating treatment for the issues their care has generated.

A two pronged approach should have been undertaken. Regulatory pressure and personal fear likely played a major part in this. New guidelines and practices should have been implemented for new patients being prescribed opiates while patients already on chronic opiate therapy should have been treated under a separate protocol. Instead the medical community under regulatory pressure implemented changes to current patients that resulted in many of them being weaned down, getting into trouble and being cut off from their medications and often ghosted by their providers. The street drug dealers welcomed them and their money with open pockets.
Influx of Fentonol and why it is here to stay

Price to produce kilo of fentanyl vs kilo of heroin and the amount of doses in each and the profit margins. Ease of production in a lab as opposed to cultivation.
“One kilogram costs $1,000 to produce--and just one kilogram of fentanyl has the potential to kill 500,000 people. It is sold for about $1,300 per ounce. Pills are commonly sold for $5-$10 each. “: 1300 x 35=45,500 on still on the wholesale side. https://www.portlandoregon.gov/police/news/read.cfm?id=412335
Heroin is much more expensive per dose and the price is skyrocketing in areas. https://news.un.org/en/story/2025/0...fghanistan,crime%20groups%2C”%20UNODC%20noted.
And dropping in others

“Available data from eight EU Member States that consistently report wholesale price data to the EMCDDA show that the price has fallen over time. While there is variation among the reporting countries, between 2017 and 2021, the wholesale price of heroin fell by 18 %, from 29 213 to 24 099 EUR/kilogram (see Figure Wholesale average heroin price in eight EU countries, 2017-2021). This is of concern, as price reductions could lead to increased use, in terms of both the number of users and the amounts used by existing users. For a more comprehensive analysis, consistent purity data at wholesale level are needed.”

Cartels luring Chemistry students to produce fentanyl

Explanation of micrograms and the ease at which an overdose can happen.
Interlude into the danger of LE and First Responders responding to fentanyl crises.

Sub interlude into substance abuse potential and rates in LE.. trauma in LE and the need for fellow officers to keep an eye on each other.
Only part of this is appropriate as the caster has an unhealthy take on drug use.. But the audio of the Officer ODing and the story may be considered for use. Still on the fence if i’m going to include this.

Cartels, pathonogenic violence
I
nflated value of contraband, pathogenic criminality and demand including dependency, substance use disorder almost assures that illicit drug use and the drug trade are hear for the foreseeable future. The cheap cost and ease of production means fentanyl is also here to stay.
How to address the Fentanyl Crises: Use every avenue we have available.
Harm reduction what are its principals and goals?
In order for someone to successfully recover from opiate addiction they need to still be alive.
Law enforcement, first responders, drug users themselves and people regularly in contact with them need to be trained and supplied with narcan

Supervised use sites. Supervised use sites reduce fatal overdoses, significantly improve health practices of users, provide a sustained line of communication to users, let someone who is struggling with addiction that people care and they are important and people still care for them, are a gateway for people to seek treatment and do not increase crime in the areas they are found.

Phone in use lines. These are hotlines where a user can call in when they use and if they OD the person on the line sends EMS or LE responders. This is a great podcast that actually has the entire call of an overdose crisis recorded. It shows clearly how it works and Is from a very popular and respected American OG podcast, This American Life.

iii. Good Samaritan Laws. These laws allow people to call for help if an overdose happens without fear of being charged for minor drug offenses.

That’s off the top of my head less then four hours to comprise the outline.

It’s not the US government.. it’s the cartels and the human drive for drugs. Other countries have already reached out for BL guidance as fent is hitting their countries. Give me a min and I’ll post some notes.

america is the only country that has figured out how profitize incarceration and healthcare. (
addiction lines up perfect with those two industries.

america and israel were the only countries on earth that voted against food being a human right.

we are controlled by the most evil heartless and greedy people on earth and there is a lot of money being made off homelessness and addiction.

you’re giving the government too much credit

sure the cartel supplied it. but america allowed and aided it and set up the conditions where a drug as shitty but shocking as fentanyl would be used heavily (but cutting off all the preferred alternatives such as pills and heroin).

even if you want to believe there was a pill problem (which there wasn’t, OD levels had been the same since the 90s…just got more media attention in the 2010s (see cdc fig 4 in that overdose death by opioid type chart i always post everytime this comes up) …ok believe there was a pill problem . the choice at that point was keep everyone on percocet 10s or roxi 30s at worse - made in a pharma lab with a known dose….

or let the cartel create a super poison that would result in massive amounts of dependency, disability, and homelessness and rehab usage, and incarceration since it was now illegal. boom - you’ve just justified
ore tax dollars to the dea and police and you’ve helped our for profit medical and jail systems make way more money.

two have medicine and incarceration be for profit is a uniquely american idea that is so sick and savage that not many governments on earth are fucking their citizens and robbing them as badly in such a sick way with dirregard for human suffering. and the now up of fentanyl et al is what facilitates that .

i’m not gonna get deep into this debate i’ve had it dozens of times on this forum

and i’m shcocked that ppl so knowledgeable about drugs as BL tends to be buy the mainstream news and government explanation for fentanyl epidemic

with crack nobody believes it anymore…the government narritive of blacks being inferior and predisposed to addiction worked great for that time period in history. now ppl know better what hindsight and the truth coming out that crack was pumped into black urban areas and criminalized more than cocaine to accomplish the dea goals.

mike i said, it was just in the news this week that the dea purposely released tons of fentanyl onto the streets.

in a decade or 3 hindsight of this drug issue will show everyone that the government narritive of doctors causing this was a scapegoat and that the dea and government in a country that views its citizens as cattle to be squeezed and exploited (including the non drug using tax payer that is terrified of fentanyl by the media and thus fine with massive LE budgets to address the drug issue - even though ppl educated on drug policy know that has always failed - we’re accepted. “take all my taxes and lock up all the addicts except my little son, let’s put him in revolving door rehab for 50K per month.)

Did you bother to read and listen to that? I’d love to chat with you once you do.. look forward to it.

no i didnt.

i’ve spent years reading about topic. im aware id the marketing ploys the makers of one single opioid among thousands used which is the epicenter of this alleged scam.

that a group of non scientists and non doctors fooled the entire medical scienctific and medial community into thinking a CII opioid (by definition C2 = highly addictive) full my agonist was non addictive.

that is a completely weak foundation to support this entire alleged “scam” that a single pharma companies sales reps with no medical knowledge allegedly used to trick the entire world including scientists (.ignoring the fact that tons of ither opioids were and had been prescribed for decades).

i’ve hard the argument so many times in so many places that i’m exhausted and don’t want to engage in it anymore…..like i said it’s like me in the 80s trying to explain to ppl that crack is a weapon used against poor and black americans that are just not just weak and inherently criminal and bad people acting badly and staining society (the media/government narrative) and is a designed effort to tear down these minority people, fill private prisons, and justify insane LE spending during a time of relatively non war time society where there as a need to justify the robbery of billions in tax dollars for some moral crusade besides a big war which wasn’t going on at the moment.

nobody would have believed me making these arguments in the 80s and now they all believe jt

the governments MO is to create chaoes themselves, blame some boogeyman, then take trillions in tax dollars to fix it when they don’t fix shit and just pocket the money.

it’s just a repeat of the same story.

“history repeats itself” and this is just another round of the same old story that happens over and over again every generation.

I'm not gonna say it's impossible but unless you have any evidence, then it's conspiracy theory. Do you have any actual evidence?

The DEA letting pills get sold to catch bigger fish is super shitty and shows callous disregard for the life of americans but it's not the same as intentionally introducing fentanyl and creating the epidemic. I really don't think that junkies need the DEAs help because they just want to get high. And people want to make a lot of money so as I said before it's not surprising at ALL that people would buy it for the sole purpose of reselling it. And it's obviously extremely addictive and I've never actually thought about it, but there has to be billions of dollars of sales annually I'd imagine.

And no dude I'm not going to search your posts about it because I really don't agree with you and it's not interesting to me.
there was no pill epidemic
You lose a lot of credibility when you say things that are basically proven.
it seems like it’s only happening in US- like countries
Not true but it's widespread in the US. You should take a trip up to Vancouver BC sometime and check out east hastings street. Just try not get poked by all the needles. I actually don't know how it is currently, but a few years back it was kinda like a warzone. The consipracy theory there was that Triads cruise the streets looking for OD victims so they can sell the organs. I've never seen so many addicts in one place in my life, it was legit scary.
america and israel were the only countries on earth that voted against food being a human right.
Food is not a human right. Do lions automatically deserve food? No just like every other organism on the planet they have to go hunting and work for food. Same applies to humans.

ut ppl want to keep blaming doctors tho
Uhhh yeah some of the doctors were total pieces of shit selling scripts for million of pills. The sackler family and purdue pharma is probably the biggest cause of what we call the opioid epidemic.
america is the only country that has figured out how profitize incarceration
It's only profitable for the private prisons like GEO Group. The actual government does not make money by keeping people in prison. Its a tax burden that we the citizens end up paying whether we pay it to private companies or the prison staff etc.
Did you bother to read and listen to that? I’d love to chat with you once you do.. look forward to it.
I doubt it. He said he's not going to argue. That implies he's made up his mind no matter what you say. Brick wall.

You're right about a lot of what you say, but I think you are so bitter/jaded that it affects your reasoning on this.

I think I'm done with this thread.

ok you made me dig up the cdc figure that supports my argument. more on that below . but first:

speaking of emotion….”the sacklers family”. there’s that general hatred of big pharma that extends too all areas beyond opioids in american patients’ medical opinion from the public. it’s very trendy to hate big pharma and what better scape goat for the american public to direct their blame at than an industry they already hated to begin with. talk about ppl being played by their emotions.

….not to mention there were hundreds of other companies making and selling opioids and most americans could not even name one besides the sacklers. but it’s a scapegoat for americans to direct their rage at - like the media and government trick americans into doing with everything.

always a scapegoat that isn’t the government itself- or doesn’t involve personal responsibility and accepting blame yourself. that’s how these blame campaigns always work.

the evidence is FIG 4 of a CDC report on OD deaths by opioid type that’s very easy to find in google or my last debate on this topic which was what smokeymcpott42088 just a few months ago

shows that ODs we’re constant (especially when normalized for # of prescriptions - which you don’t even have to do, it was and has been constant since the 90s for 40 years).

this consistency is/was maintained at the same baseline levels during periods of low prescribing, higher prescribing and again all but absent prescribing. really showing that the danger of the prescription drugs was far overblown

(i understand there are other issues with addiction besides ODs - but i think we would agree that ALL of them were worsened by instantly removing cheap/free pharma opioids and dumping fentanyl into america that costs a lot of money to maintain a habit that you go into withdrawal every two hours instead of every 8 hours.

the thing that wasn’t constant was fentanyl overdoses which has a vertical spike in late 2016. on a span of 6 months the OD deaths increased by 4 or 5x, caused by fentanyl and caused by the DEAs action to end prescribing and allow fentanyl to flood america. they knew that’s what would happen and received billions in funding as a result after it happened / with full public support to destroy the lives of many doctors that were ethical and destroy the lives of tens of millions of legitmate patients with chronic pain that then became unable to function if they didn’t eat a bullet or switch to fentanyl (also making them dysfunctional and ripe for the blossoming rehab industry and revolving door jails and tax payer funded homeless programs)
