Hell man, what's the difference between a "final dinner" and a "final few minute high"?
In the USA you don't even get a final meal these days. They serve up whatever slop they served the rest of the prisoners on that particular day. Imagine getting some mystery meat with a side of instant potatoes and a high fructose corn syrup "fruit" cup along with some flavor aid as your final meal.
The for-profit prison system in the USA today is wild. They've got it down to $1 per meal per prisoner now and they're always looking for ways to reduce it further. The canned mystery meat I serve my cats on a daily basis looks like a 5 star meal in comparison. The worst part is back during the Obama years when they were praising Big Mike for the "healthy school lunches" program all they really did was start supplying every child in the country with the same meals they serve to the for-profit and federal prisons. Before the middle of the 2000s each school district in the country was preparing school lunches locally and the little old lunch ladies sporting the stray facial hairs were making the food every day fresh. There were some districts that were using local and regional vendors for some meals sure but for the most part the lunch ladies had control over the menu and prepared the food themselves. Same was true of the prisons and jails. They had prisoners working in the kitchens that were prepping the meals in the prison kitchen.
Now a big truck shows up once or twice a week with the meals already prepared. Just heat and serve. It's the Taco Bell and McRib business model. The meat is whatever scraps were left over after the good cuts were taken off the animal and the fruit/veggies are the crap left over after the stuff that had shelf appeal was already pulled out of the lot. In other words. It's absolutely disgusting.
It's the same thing we're seeing all through society. If you're in the 1% you're getting 5-star meals three times a day. Everyone else is forced to survive on what used to be considered dog food. They've just figured out how to make the crap they used to serve to dogs look and taste more appealing with injection molding, meat glue and a heavy dose of sugar. No real refined sugar of course that would be too expensive.
I suppose it's only natural they'd be serving the same food in the public schools as they serve in the prisons. Public school in America trains you for living in prison or a factory (same thing really).
Of course if you can afford it you can send your child to a private/charter school where they still treat and feed them like actual human beings. Other countries do not have this problem. At least not the other first world countries. Pretty much every other western country still prepares food locally in both their prisons and public school system. It looks like gourmet cuisine compared to what you get in America. It's typically cheap to. For $2-$3 a meal they're churning out meals that would cost you $10 over here these days.
The food situation in America isn't talked about enough. It's wild to me that even the EU wouldn't put up with it. The EU passed a law about 10-15 years ago that said they were going to watch what happened to America for about 20 years before they made a decision on allowing what's happened to the American food supply into their countries. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess they aren't going to adopt our methods any time soon. Since we've gone bad shit insane over the past two decades and the food is a big part of that I'm sure. I'm sure that most of the cancers are being caused by what's being let into our food supply and the fact that people are eating so much processed garbage on a daily basis now. I'm also going to guess that the vast majority of Americans haven't eaten actual fresh food in a long time. Well at least not the ones that aren't living like the 1% at the top.
They won't even serve you real food now. A basic human right. So it isn't much wonder why they don't give two fucks about causing horrible pain to people that are scheduled to be put to death. I don't know why we even bother with any of this lethal injection crap. The gas chamber and noose was already quick, effective and relatively painless. Hell even the firing squad was pretty quick and painless. The only reason lethal injection looked more humane compared to what we had before is due to the fact that a bunch of mad men thought the chair was a great idea. Even though it required doing stuff like stuffing cotton up your asshole so you didn't shit all over yourself and it got botched all of the time.
They won't even give you a last smoke or let you get one last taste of some decent food. I can tell you that I know the prisoners over here eat total garbage. You know what they all want when they rarely get real food? They don't reach for the pizza, the steak, or even the ice cream. They wall want greens. Since they never get served actual vegetables. I know someone that works at a prison and they served a handful of inmates a Thanksgiving dinner a few years ago for good behavior. They thought they'd go ape shit for real turkey, gravy and pie so they made sure to get extra of that. They barely touched it. They all just wanted more green beans, collard greens, broccoli and okra. It was the first time some of them had seen greens in decades.
Their mood was visibly improved for weeks after that. But someone talked and word got back up the chain to someone who put a stopped to this and threatened to fire everyone involved with feeding them real food. Said it was unfair to the other prisoners. In reality, they just didn't want them having access to actual food since they're charging them $10+ for basic shit like a small jar of peanut butter and bags of chips. The food the prison serves them is such garbage because they're making millions of dollars every quarter off selling them junk food on commissary. Last I checked they're charging them over $2 a pop for ramen noodles. By pack I mean one packet not the multi-packs you can buy at the store for $1 on the outside. They've moved on to tablets now and I think those are like $200 a month to rent. Something crazy like that. Before the tablets they were selling mp3 players for $150 each. Then $5 per song. The person I know that works at the prison used to have the job of going up to death row once a week and taking the song requests. Then she'd hook their mp3 players up to a PC they had and download whatever songs they wanted and bring them back. Some of those guys had dumped over $1k into a handful of albums.
The state they work in hasn't killed anyone in years now. They keep filling up death row with new inmates every year. "Death" is basically just a life sentence now. The prison prefers it that way because they're making bank selling those guys cookies, chips, noodles and stuff like TVs, game consoles and renting out use of tablets with very limited internet access. The whole system is really fucked up. It's the largest growing industry in that state and has been for decades now. They're building new private prisons all of the time. It ranks just behind tourism and is expected to surpass the tourism industry in the next decade.
