much love
apparently a natural inhalation and exhalation with a slight pause is all that is needed to absorb the thc you will get from a pull.
  • THC absorption happens rapidly during the inhale and first natural pause.
  • Holding smoke longer does not meaningfully increase THC uptake.
  • Extra holding mostly increases:
    • carbon monoxide exposure
    • airway irritation
    • dizziness/anxiety
  • Most THC that can be absorbed already is within a normal breath cycle.
So the same rule applies:
  • Normal inhale + natural exhale = sufficient
  • Conscious breath-holding = extra risk, no real payoff
i never questioned the 3 second rule, it is nice to be back aligned with reality

says who? maybe just propaganda so you buy more buds. i 100% get higher when i hold it in, and to me is seems like more than just carbon monoxide poising

inhale, exhale.

do what feels natural. don't let someone tell you to hold your breath because it's their weed.

just breathe in, breathe out. You'll get where you need to be.

throwback:

I think I remember some study saying 7 seconds you got 90% --- but I could be wrong I certainly can't find and cite that study now!

My thoughts are holding it any more than is comfortable is not necessary and unless im really hard off im not worrying about it

have experimented holding it in through out the years, i'm going to go with absolutely no need unless you want to get dizzy... does not increase the affects of THC at all.. don't even need to hold for three seconds. inhale in and out pretty much, just enough time for the smoke to hit the lungs is all you need, maybe the whole process of breathing a hit in and out is about 3 seconds... i'd say that's about right... 7 seconds is an urban legend i'm pretty sure. that's too long.

I agree 7 is too long. On the other hand if I am that dry I can hold my breath for 7 seconds.

My anectdotal experience completely is the same as yours -- makes little to no difference. I would guess if 90 by 7 seconds is true it is probably 85 by like 2 seconds.

That said some data either way would be great --- 10 to 15 seconds is too much https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/2554344/

I didn't check this too thoroughly but it says 95% in 2 seconds from a skim. https://www.royalqueenseeds.com/us/blog-debunking-the-myth-of-holding-a-hit-of-marijuana-n748

Your lungs are not invincible and as someone who has seen someone close die of copd let me tell you be careful about holding shit in yeah you might get higher but if you make a habit of doing it you may regret it in your older adult life.. I am barely in my 30s and I got crackling in my throat if I Dont cough up the phlegm its very annoying and getting worse I am planning on quitting smoking fags(and other stuff including cannabis) but.. life is just so fucking stressful.

^Damn -- since you took the liberty of saying you were close to dying of COPD in your early 30s....

May I ask what you were inhaling and holding that you attribute such problems to?

Nah If I let out to quickly I regret it and sometimes have to do more and I experimented with this for a while theres defiantly a difference more so though with other drugs though especially meth.

Did I say that? well i must have had a typo I meant to say someone close to me died of copd and that my chest isn't to good in my 30s. mate.

Damn kids these days always got an attitude.. you try and share some wisdom and you just get sarcasm. Dear oh dear.

I can confirm that hyperventilating on purpose then taking massive shotgun and holding it in for as long as possible while your other friend picks up you and squeezes you gets you insanely high. I can also confirm that if your friend sets you back down on your feet and doesn't hold on you can fall over and crack your skull open.

No more rising shotguns for me after that.

I think you're mis-reading what was actually a genuine and considerate question
If that is the case I apologise I just thought the reply was a bit rude it came off as such anyway..

although i wasn't really tryna answer the question I was just saying that im in my 30s and my chest is probably as bad as the average 50 yr old 1 pack a day geezer ygm

Just chiming in to say that you said what you thought you said.

Someone close to you died of COPD.

mfer tryna gaslight you

(fwiw i was hooked on phonics as a kid so my reading is pretty good, like at least 2 grade levels higher than it should be)

Do you speak English?

Sorry for the slight misread - if someone in there 30s were dying of COPD from marijuana I would be interested to know.

What attitude? I thought it was pretty kind to say since you cared to share that info may I ask --- where was the attitude? Again sorry I read it as you were close to death from copd, not you knew someone who was.

I think most of us over 30 have known a few ppl with COPD -- my pops outlived his diagnosis by like 8 yrs and it was still only a contributing factor. Spose I knew someone close to dying from COPD as well -- I will not hesitate to share the cause was over 2 packs of cigarettes a day between 14 and 60 however ---- which makes the whole anecdote off topic, yes? Was yours off topic as well? (More polite way to ask?)

He said what he thought he said --- I misread slightly and my question reflects it; again apologies for that.

Sorry @Ddeeee that you almost lost anyone close to you for any reason; believe me no disrespect was intended! Much the opposite I got alot of empathy -- friend just lost a mother from COPD couple months ago
mf'er tryna gaslight you

Most certainly was not trying 'Gaslight' anyone -- what I wold consider gaslighting is suggesting that you gunna die young of holding in pot smoke too long based on a cigarette smoker COPD story.
