How's your job hunting going
@Perkins : Reborn, and how are you finding the jobs market in the area at the moment?
That's if you're comfortable talking about it. Completely understand if you'd rather not.
Unfortunately, I may well be joining you on the 'rock and roll' quite soon..
I've been put on a PIP at work, essentially for not being fast enough at certain organisational tasks.
The manager keeps proposing and promising things to help, but so far I've only ended up receiving partial fractions of the helpful suggestions he's mentioned, and for fraction of the time periods he's mentioned. I'm feeling like my cards are marked, and the whole thing is just a box ticking exercise for them to get rid of me. Although as I'm not in a union, I think the Ts and Cs are that they can just get rid of you without even needing to provide a reason. I'll have to look into that.
I've kind of completely lost my positivity at the moment, this is now the 2nd time an employer has put me on a PIP. With the previous one I took it to HR and successfully challenged it, as they'd put me on that PIP after about a week or 2 into a new role, which was blatantly absurd and unfair, to not give me any time to learn the role and get up to speed. A few months afterwards, I ended up getting a fairly decent redundancy package from that company anyway, and I was so happy. I fucking hated that job, and getting paid about 3 months redundancy, it was a nice financial cushion. And the best possible outcome as far as I was concerned.
I really thought that I would be putting all these kinds of problems behind me since starting the ADHD meds though. I guess things still aren't quite right. It's hitting me hard, and I'm crashing. Although it seems to me that there are people with worse performances than mine, just I'm being targeted at the moment. It's a surprisingly demanding role, and things are only going to get more so, as cost cutting, and efficiency drives will continue to increase work loads.
I might speak to the employers mental wellbeing service, it's meant to be confidential, and it might help. Although I theoretically have the opportunity to improve, or to maybe move into another role, with my attitude at the moment, I may as well just tell them to sack me now. I can't really just quit, as that would likely cause all sorts of issues with not being able to claim benefits for up to 3 months, due to me having left voluntarily (If i did). I doubt if the "decision maker" would consider leaving a job, due to strongly suspecting that I was going to be fired, to be a good reason. Although to me it seems a very good reason, better to have 'resigned' written on the reference, rather than 'dismissed', although I think the employer may well just state that I worked for the company between certain dates, and no more and no less. I think that's what they do for everyone, and seems to be common practice these days across many employers. I hope that's what your ex-employer will do for you, although I'm sure you could find ways round it, even if not.
But without having 'dismissed' stated on your previous reference, it would surely make getting the next job easier, as you could just make anything up, as to why you left.
Really not sure whether to disclose my Autism and ADHD, or just my Autism, or just the ADHD, and ask for accommodations with my current employer. Which is supposed to be a legally protected right, under the disability act. But I know that in practice most people's experiences with trying that route do not go well. I may have to try it for the sake of the benfits agency, otherwise they'll probably ask me why I didn't, and may sanction me for failing to do that, if I don't do it.
