I carry a legal blade; it's a slip joint, so non-locking, even though in reality it locks. If it goes into your face, it's going to do damage, but I'd only ever cut someone's forehead so they bleed enough to be incapacitated but they don't die.

EDIT: I sound really horrible there.

Forehead cuts bleed a lot, but they're generally not very deadly. It's what wrestlers do to create a load of blood.

What kind of blade? A few years back in New York there was an interesting story about a guy fighting off 5 attackers on the rail with just a switchblade style knife.

Only this, which looks more like something a country gent might carry.

Still pretty reassuring to have.

I live in the Glasgow area this last decade or so and have never once felt unsafe - let alone felt the need to be armed - even being unequivocally English even on sight.

This contrasts sharply with when I previously lived in rural Wales and constantly felt threatened and actually did carry blades “just in case”…

Of course people found a way to corrupt ice cream. Ice cream. If ever there was a call for the death penalty it's right there.

Possibly ,I'm not against the state ending a human life for truly awful crimes ,Ian Brady being one,he tried to starve himself to death in prison and the authorities actually kept him alive.
But there's been far to many people Sent to there death only to be given a pardon years later Timothy Evans ,Derek Bently etc ,I dread to think how many in the US
I think the trouble with the ice cream wars was some vans were giving out free flakes with there 99s when others were charging for them ,terrible buissness

I agree we quite often take trips to Glasgow and never once felt unsafe ,maybe different in certain areas but that's in every large city in uk .
in contrast I've never been to Perth without seeing a fight or someone being arrested.

I find the same with Glasgow. The only uncomfortable moment I had ( Apart from my girlfriend screaming in the at the Ireland rugby match in the Dolphin pub in Partick to the point it scared people) was when a Tesco employee was mistaking me for a Scot. Couldn't understand a fucking word. and I speak Glaswegian. But he thought if he said it louder I'd understand. I've been mistaken for other districts of Scotland before.

We got there in the end.

I used to have a bit of a fetish.

I don't buy any more, but I do sleep with a Hitler Youth dagger and a beautiful Opinel outdoor which my girlfriend had engraved with 'Love is the law' on one side and 'Love under will' on the other.

I'm obsessed with the second world war and especially the rise of national socialism in parts of Europe.
I don't collect anything though, to lazy but it's interesting you have that, a part of true world history .

I believe Lemmy was quite a collector of various Nazi items of different types. He was also a pretty well informed history buff about the subject, IIRC.

His interest in collecting such memorabilia was absolutely nothing to do with their 'ideology', and was based entirely on their aesthetics, I recall him saying something like that the Nazi uniforms 'just looked good.'

I had to look it up ,I see they have been manufactured for over 130 years in France.
It is a lovely knife
Speaking of France I guess I have a fetish of le creuset pots,griddles,pans etc

I have a massive Opinel, but the handle is wooden and swells, so you can barely open it sometimes. That red one is plastic so you don't have that problem. I can't find the big one just now.

Yeh ,sometimes you have to tread carefully, I have lots of books on Nazism but I belive I'm intelligent enough (debatable)to know enough about certain ideologies and there core bases.
Having a grasp on history is like a crystal ball
