How did you get into the more "hardcore" drugs

Hm, I've aways liked alcohol, so I already knew I enjoyed the feeling of being 'under the influence'
Ha! We are exact opposites in this regard. I hate nothing more than alcohol. Should have never become our Volksdroge. I would much prefer the masses to be either stoned or opiated. We'd be living in a much more peaceful society.

I'm a very much all-or-nothing type person. And one of my mates was conveniently a junkie-boy. So... straight to heroin, and straight to the needle.
Damn. I was initially afraid of the needle. I started sniffing first, and when that wasn't economical anymore (try putting a whole gram of heroin into your nose lol) I switched to smoking. Eventually I lost my fear to the needle and actually became somewhat of a needle-fetishist. That's when fixing became a full-time job for me. That was all before I discovered ways to lower tolerance and I went back to snorting. Took me almost 12 years of research and trial & error though...what a journey.

Sheer curiosity for me.
I was down to do ecstasy in grade nine but couldn't find any, so it wasn't until halfway through grade ten that I tried it.
Curiosity has been the cause of all my drug use, especially psychedelics.
I've always been utterly fascinated by the effects drugs can cause on ones perception based solely on chemical interactions in the brain and I wanted to personally investigate these effects.
Not to mention being high can feel pretty fucking great, addiction to mdma and cocaine got the better of me near the end of grade 12, but I can use both in recreation now, and ketamine really got the best of me this year, but I can usually use in moderation now, although still always struggling with cravings

I have no idea tbh. Meth was just becoming popular to smoke so at 17 I gave myself my first shot of that before I'd even smoked it I think.
Then Oxy 80's and 2mg Xanax became incredibly cheap and available for a 17 year old. I snorted then for 2-3 months then started shooting them for 2-3 years and then heroin became available.

This question truly stumped me. I am the youngest of four with my closest sibling being 9 years older. They never did drugs with me until after I graduated high school but I knew they smoked weed and snorted coke. The first time I ever did Coke was in the 11th. This is the late 70s in the sf bay area. I think the moment I was old enough to get somebody to sell it to me was when I started. Getting and doing Coke was like getting alcohol on your 21st birthday. I wore a t-shirt to high School that said "cocaine the rich man's aspirin." I had to wear a shirt over it to get out the house. Looking at it now, there was no way I was ever not going to do it. This is a great thread. Kind of broke my brain, though.

I started with tramadol back when it wasn't considered a controlled substance (around 2008).

400mg of tramadol could get me nodding to what I assumed at the time is what heroin felt like. But the tramadol were my moms & in 2013/2014 the American government just decided "Oh hey, btw tramadol is a fully synthetic opioid, so we're just gonna put it in schedule V". Even though it had been uncontrolled for 30 years in the US.

So my mom's doctors started tapering her down slowly. And in 2015, the universe just decided to bring a heroin dealer into my life for whatever reason. Probably because my best friend at the time knew I liked pain pills & she introduced me to a chick friend of hers that used heroin. And then that chick introduced me to the guy who was running all over the East Coast & Midwest dealing heroin. And for whatever reason, he took a liking to me & would just give me free heroin all the time. And I was right, the nods I use to get on tramadol were incredibly similar to what heroin felt like. Except heroin was something I needed to dose a few times a day versus just once. Of course once you're tolerant to heroin, tramadol will barely even hold you though.

If cocaine, MDMA or crank are considered "hard drugs", then I did those in my teen years cause I grew up with drug dealer siblings. So I was introduced to everything early on, except heroin/opioids,

I wanted to be taken seriously by my house mates, one of whom had been a heroin addict and the other who had been addicted to cocaine, so I bought myself some cocaine in Amsterdam and later I smoked base coke in Rotterdam.

Must have been 19 or 20.

I have used it from time to time later, but buying from dealers has never satisfied me.

Same old story( for many) given pain medication, then buying off a friend, that ran dry. Then hitting the streets for more and stronger.

Was given benzos by my mother at 8, but first time I officially got into drugs was 14 when my cousin told me to take oxycodone, then a week later did cocaine in the school bathroom, then sometime later found a bag of H on the ground that my cousin told me to smoke… (never came into contact with H again after that until ab age 17 though)
All of this before even weed or alcohol

Later at about 16yo me and a friend started ordering cathinones, pyrros, benzos and tried some fentalogue as well

Was a stupid ass kid lol

I experimented a little bit but mostly drank and then at 18 I discovered a penchant for entrepreneurial activity and started banking via selling weed (2007. Big money in herb back then. Low risk too. I wish that were still the case). SO, I'm making mad money, developed a *serious* taste for the fast life and Low an behold my journeyman at work turns out to have legit unopened 100 count pharmacy bottles of perks, and also valiums, morphine's, you name it, all at good prices so next thing I know I'm cruising an hour up a major highway (in a Honda CRX, damn I loved that car) picking up full loads. We all know where it went from there, and Yea, I hit the scene like a fucking comet. I'd buy 2/3/400 pills just for my personal stash. It was fun....... In the beginning.

Best friend died.
Girlfriend wouldn’t commit.
Didn’t give a fuck about anything.
Just made the decision to get high at a really low point in my life. Had never tried heron before but knew I liked opiates and just decided I don’t fucking care.

I had always been the one trying to keep my friends from doing heron.

Then suddenly with all my friends dead or assholes I just gave up. Defeated. I sought and got junk and preserved myself for five more years before I regained the will to live.

Shitt 14 yrs old going to get a zip from a buddies dad "Sorry man I'm out but I could cut ya a deal on an 8 ball" --- "I don't like do coke though man" --- "Hey its up to you, wanna be sober or try something new".

Bastard lol --- never got me but he got 3 or 4 of my close friends hooked on coke hopelessly. (3 to this day, 4 is dead)

Had a hockey coach at around 13-15 would give me "Double shift pills" -- Which turned out to be Percocet 10's.

BTW I do not put the blame on either of these ppl -- never was a coke guy; disappointed in that 8ball --- and it was coke that I would personally call the bastard right now if he still had that quality. (Every drug gets cut worse with time except pot I sware)
Not complaining about free percs and extra ice time either.... that 8ball was a bit of a bait and switch as a zip would have lasted a week -- and coke just isn't that way.

Really it was when a buddy stole an entire bottle of his grandma's oxys and was handing them out -- than I met someone that traded pot for morphine, than I started looking for more ppl like that. So it goes lol

No gateway drugs, I had a predisposition to fly before I knew what drugs were.

Saw this old PSA about drug use on YouTube and some kids were turning themselves around during play outside because of the feeling it gave them.

Used to do that too.

I got a job in a hotel when I was 18. There's a lot of cocaine in hotels. Then about a year later I discovered mephedrone and methylone. I had a solid year of taking one or the other 2-3 times a week, maybe more, my memory of that year is fuzzy I was also drinking a lot and working 60 hours a week. Good job they banned it really, I copped 10 grams of each just before the ban came into effect and that was that. It all came down to access.

Psychedelics I didn't begin dabbling with until my thirties. That was a product of lockdown, as was teaching myself to navigate the darkweb. Again, access.

I was a teenager in the 70s, when anti-drug propaganda was wildly inaccurate & dishonest. I was smoking weed regularly at age 14 & I dabbled in other stuff because I figured the "authorities" lied about everything. The only substance I had real problems with was alcohol.

By age 25 my life was falling apart because of alcoholism & I was suicidal. At that point I took anything I could get ahold of because why the fuck not? If I die, I die.

Ok I will admit in the 4th or fifth grade the way D.A.R.E warned against psychedelics was FUCKIN STUPID --- "Do you wanna see and talk to your favorite cartoon characters?" UMM HELL YES! Unfortunately that older kid pushing free acid never popped out lol
